One of the recent anime I really enjoyed is the first season of Sword Art Online. The show on its own isn't particularly great but its the only anime me and the wife watched together and she also liked it since she was able to related to some of our WoW experiences so it was fun to watch
Ah the best anime ever is Rurouni Kenshin

I watch them on
anime1.com
and
animegg.org
Find there what I like, even the older ones like "Monster" for example, they buffer the video nicely even with my slower net connection.

Some great ones on Netflix:
Attack on Titan
Knights of Sidonia
Fate Zero
Psycho Pass
Samurai Champloo
Full Metal Alchemist
I'm actually really surprised how good Knights of Sidonia is. It's up there with Last Exile (which unfortunately vanished from Netflix some months back).

errr… People…
No genre, no thoughts about opening scene, no what is it about, no praising great sub/dub, no number of eps/seasons, no… nothing?
It's like suggesting me a game title without stating it's a grinder.
Cmon, a few sentences about each one would not hurt.
I've updated the post with links on streaming sites.

I'm currently watching Arslan Senki (the Legend of Arslan). It's basically an old school adventure anime based in an imaginary Middle-East during the Crusades (it's based on a old novel series). The only downside: production quality has issues.
If you like new old school adventure anime, I also suggest The Rage of Bahamut:Genesis. It feels a lot like a D&D module adventure (the setting is based on the TCG Rage of Bahamut that might explain why).
I second Psyco-Pass, not enough cyberpunk out there, and Knight of Sidonia, because space!
If you like mecha, I suggest Fafner Exodus, the second part will air this Fall (it's a sequel to a 10 years old series available on Funimation, new one is on Crunchy). Same art director as Gundam Seed though, but awesome actions and there is suspense in the plot. Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor - Exodus for its full name. Aldnoah Zero felt flat in comparison (although amazing OST and animation, Sawano is godly).
For wacky stuff, Samurai Flamenco takes the cake in the last few years. It's basically a documentary/critic on superheroes from Japan to the USA going through the last 100 years, but doesn't feel like a documentary.
For psychological anime, Death Parade. Ever wonderered how souls where selected to go to heaven or hell, this is the show for you. The opening is a winner too.
People who like Sword Art Online might want to check Accel World. They share series author and universe (although, anime wise neither have intersected yet).

Going ti suggest two anime series both written by Lynn Okamoto, but are different even if are pretty similar.
"Elfen Lied" - I would call this one a psycho-horror anime, it is pretty gory. Only 13 ep. and the soundtrack is very good. Likable characters.
"Gokukoku no Brynhildr"(Brynhildr in the Darkness) - 13 ep. sci-fi/mystery, softer than Elfen Lied, but it is still good. Likable characters.
And while I am on a horror page, one cannot miss "Mirai Nikki"(The Future Diary)
26 ep. psycho-triller/horror/supernatural
The famous psycho Gasai Yuno, main character in the anime and the story kept me watching it. They edited in some childish scenes which is totally unnecessary, but overall it is worth a watch. Soundtrack is pretty good also.
I also give thumbs up for "Psycho-Pass", for the second season also. A good psycho-triller. Society where the state of mind can be measured, also a crime coefficient can be measured and the people are hold on a short leash. The mere bad thoughts or over excitement can trigger the crime coefficient to go up resulting a need for therapy, that is imprisonment, or even death by the hands of a special police force. No one is safe and there is a deeper mystery that is in the background.
Also, a very good psycho-triller Zankyou no Terror (Terror in Resonance), only 11 ep. and it is one of the best anime I watched. Pretty good story line, human experimentation, revenge.
And this one cannot go without the mention "MONSTER". For me it is the best psycho-thriller I watched, it is slow paced a bit but the story and all the overlapping of events and side stories are phenomenal and well though out. There are 74 ep. And for this one it is needed, if not more. It has complex character personalities. Simply the best anime I watched and all the rest seems mediocre after this one. I did not even watch an anime after I finished this one few months ago. A big 10/10

I love the art and sound design. It seems they also have polished it over last season. Especially the sound effects, though that may be because I used headphones for a couple of episodes which I'm not used to (only for music).
ps: I wouldnt mind to use the tv series thread for anime too.

I used to like Anime as a kid, but I can't get into it anymore.
I tried watching Attack on Titan earlier this year after seeing a lot of people talk about it, and I actually made it to the 8th episode before losing interest. Like most Anime, it was just too weird and nonsensical for me.

I've tried at least three times to get through Akira, and I just can't pull it off.
I did like Ghost in the Machine, though, but I can't claim it was super entertaining or anything.

Especially ongoing shows that put the spectacle in first few episodes then fall into abyss of boredom.
Anime hype works like with games, more hype, more chance the final product is in fact mediocre. Attack on Titan was mentioned just about everywhere based on it's first few episodes.
So instead of joining the hype train on new materials, grab some older titles that finished airing, reviewed as good or great, not based on just show starting episodes.
Btw, based on anime oriented sites, 2014. was, with just a few exceptions, the worst year with too much of mediocrity and garbage.

Monster mentioned in above posts, also. I still haven't touched it.
But that's why this thread is here, so ppl can pick what might be interesting and avoid averageness. Noone has enough time to watch everything, and because we lack of time, we should spend what we gave on above average materials. IMO.
That also goes for games.

I disliked Robotech even as kid. It looked to me as a pale copy of Transformers.

Robotech launched around the same time as Tranformers over here. They were different enough that I liked both.
The Japanese Anime series that Robotech was adapted from preceded Transformers.
