Default Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus - Release Day

November 15th, 2018, 15:22
The turn-based tactics game Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus will be released today:

Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus

Take control of one of the most technologically advanced armies in the Imperium - The Adeptus Mechanicus. As Magos Dominus Faustinius, you’ll lead the expedition on the newly rediscovered Necron planet of Silva Tenebris. Customize your team, manage resources, discover long-forgotten tech, and control your Tech-Priests’ every move.

Your every decision will shape the missions ahead and ultimately decide the fate of the troops under your command in over 50 hand-crafted missions. Choose your path carefully - the Imperium depends on it.

Augment
Flesh is weak! Upgrade your Tech-Priests with weapons, support items, Servo-Skulls and other mechanical augments as you assemble your cohort. Customize your team’s disciplines, choosing from multiple character classes to create a squad for every playstyle.

Unique Tactical Combat
Engage in immersively strategic combat that will test your mettle under the extreme pressure of the xenos ambush. Access your most powerful weapons and abilities by using Cognition Points and advance on your enemy without pause. Fear not, the Omnissiah favours the brave.

The Library of Immersion
A compelling story written by Black Library author, Ben Counter, specifically crafted to fit the unique personality of the Adeptus Mechanicus faction, with each character having their own personalities and agendas. Feel the tension and admire the devotion with unique visual effects and breathtaking audio.

Difficult Decisions
Make tough decisions that will forge the future from your Ark Mechanicus, The Caestus Metalican, and send you towards alternate endings for a truly unique playthrough. Be warned, however, the more you explore each tomb, the greater the rewards but also greater the threat.

Canticles of the Omnissiah
Collect in-game achievements and be rewarded with strong abilities that can be used once per mission to aid you in the heat of battle.

It is streamed.

Product has hard features. Clock to press progression onward (farming an area vs rushing through it), no hit percentage etc

So it exhibits the likelihood of failures (missions might be failed) but it does not seem to integrate it as a common occurrence as streamers breeze through missions.

Does not look there is a game to play. Tons of content to browse through. It is heavily storylined, a campaign, stuff, items to find, enemies etc

I really want this to be good, but the time limits on missions are kind of a bummer. I want exploration!

Fifty missions sounds pretty meaty, but hearing that there are time limits in missions is offsetting to me.

Depends on the limit; a bit of a limit can add to the suspense but too tight of a limit and it can become bloody tedious.

There is no time limits on missions.

There is a clock advancing to an ominous time. The clock advances by an amount collected during missions. There are ways to keep the amount low during the mission.

It is a way to push for progression. It limits farming.

Farm a lot at mission levels and the clock is advanced by 4~5 each time, farm little at mission level and the clock is advanced by 2~3.

Long term: fewer missions or more missions before the clock hits the time limit.

Nothing original in the design. Thing is that while in boardgaming, games do it well, it is quite rare for vid products to do it well.

Board gaming focuses on quality content. They sell extra content.
Vid products wash their lack of quality with tons of content.

This product is bloated with features up to the point upgrades are named enhanced enhancers.

Way too many features to strike a balance.

There were time limits for some missions in Firaxis' reboot of Xcom. No one seemed to mind those. Not sure what this games' limits are like.

That said, I generally don't like time limits either.

Steam reviews are surprisingly positive, people here seem far more sceptical…

Honestly, the only off-setting thing I've read so far are some within mission time limits, and if those are inconsequential, I'll likely pick this one up at some point when I next have a lull.

Hard to see where that story of time limit on missions comes from.
Each mission generates heat that increments a heat counter up to 100.
Correction: the minimal heat is 3 useful to know to maximize farming.

So this gives something like 25 to 30 missions to farm before the final encounter.
Nothing like a big discrepancy.

Unsurprisingly. Straightforward product, no tension, no failure, tons of content, lengthy enough to recoup the investment (to speak the vernacular)
Good product by players' standards. Gameplay is absent so even better.

Streamers have finished it. Confirmed: no game to play. Cruise through 25 plus missions, kill final boss. Over. Move to next vid product.

Good product by this site's standards.
