Drakensang Game crashing on save

I've had these a few times before, in specific zones, but after starting the game after the crash, no problem. But now I'm in the 'Deeps of Gruldur' and, after killing some amoebas, it almost always crashes when I save (quicksave or normal save). Anybody seen this?
ADD: I think it may have been something in the vicinity of where my party was. lots of amoeba and rock dudes corpses. I went well away to another part of the cave clear of enemies and corpses, and could save fine. Oh well.
