DSOGaming reports on the new free content now available for Outward.

...

Here are the key features of this new free content patch for Outward:

  • Hardcore Mode: With the new Permadeath option, defeat may bring only a temporarily setback, but there is also a chance characters actually die permanently (save game deleted).
  • Hidden Endgame Boss Fights: We will say no more at this point, but they are waiting for you.
  • Vastly Improved Legacy Chest System: We've added a surprising new functionality which is better experienced without us spoiling it.
  • More End Game Items: A wealth of incredibly valuable and powerful items to further transform you into the ultimate warrior.
  • Languages, Languages and More Languages: Added the following languages (text only): Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Portuguese (Brazil), and Turkish.
  • Addition of an Unarmed Attack: Take a (figurative) page out of Monty Python black knight's playbook - you don't need arms to fight.
  • Poutine: The Quebec super food.
Thanks Farflame!

Never finished this game last year as it breaks apart after the first main quest. Still it's probably good news for the few fans this game does have on the site at least.:)

First, I've read of it, so I don't mind! I agree with Couch about the quest though. I grew bored of the game after finishing the first major quest. There just wasn't enough game systems to keep my interest. Survival was very easy too; at least in the levels I played.

For those that have played this, how is the combat.

I have looked at it several times but haven’t pulled the trigger and purchased it. Seems interesting though.

I had fun with the game for around 30 hours. The combat is different but I really enjoyed the two handed spear guy I made. The game is fun at the beginning and I really enjoyed the starting zone and the desert zone. Not enough character customization for me in the later part of the game.

Enjoyed what they did with torches and lanterns. Also, carry weight where you could not just loot everything. Reminded me of old school D&D.

The melee combat is decent. You can lock on to your target. Light, heavy and special attacks. Block 100% damage with any item but shields use less stamina. Rolling is effected by your armour weight, etc.

I didn't really like the magic. None of the spells are traditional nukes. Well, 1 top tier rune magic spell lets you use your Light spell to shoot bolts but to cast rune magic you make combos out of 4 runes so it's a lot of messing around to cast a spell.

Early on you'll probably discover traps make life easier then you can swap over to the magic spell trap and save carry weight but you have to make some sort of battlemage where spells are more utility than anything else.

If you do play, the carry weight limit will be annoying so I suggest running to another zone straight away because they sell much better backpacks.

I thought it was pretty good, though. It has an oldschool sort of charm. If you can handle Dungeon Lords you'll be fine in this.

New skills are learned through trainers and they all have a few skills anyone can learn, but you can pick to specialise in 3 "classes" to unlock all of the trainers special skills. Picking a class gives a big passive bonus. Some skills, like Backstab, you get as quest rewards and the NPC has nothing else to teach.

Magic system is very weak. That's why the game didn't keep my attention after first major quest. I play mage/rogue hybrids, but mostly mage.
