I couldn't resist, I just ordered a Sammich SID that has 6581s installed. It was a good price.

I never had a tape drive for my C64, but that's all I had for my Commodore VIC20 that preceded it (and a couple of cartridges; it was a weird hybrid of a machine) I used buy magazines like Ahoy and Computer Gazette and they had machine language programs in the back that you could type in. Very tedious, but I would do it, and write down the timestamps.

C64 is still my favorite computer gaming experience, at least my nostalgia favorite. While it reamins unboxed, I did buy one of the C64 mini things. Maybe someday I'll open it.
