RIP Kirk Douglas... at 103.

Yeah, I meant to put in some text. :). Because Natalie Wood died so young, never spoke of it, and if anything happened it was at a time when treatment of women was pretty poor in general and (more so than now) women getting raped were almost always blamed for it happening.

Bottom line is that is not when the rumors started, but it makes it easier to write them off it all that can be referenced is a ‘disgruntled family member’. Douglas has enjoyed touting one side of his ‘brash young man’ persona, claiming (most say overstating) that he essentially single-handed broke the ‘Hollywood Blacklist’ by hiring Dalton Trumbo for Spartacus. But the *other* side, including allegations of racism, disregard for safety of others, and so on ... he used his ‘elder statesman’ years to reshape in his own favor.

Kirk Douglas was one of the last of the ‘golden age’ actors, and has many, many admirable qualities alongside a great body of work. One thing that always impressed me was his focus on his family - he wanted to be there for his kids in a way his father was not, something Michael Douglas says was instrumental in his childhood. That was very different than many actors of the time (like Bing Crosby who was famous for beating the crap out of his kids whenever his temper flared).
