Gaming BS of the week

That whole article is BS Joxer.

Anyway I know a few people in the scene, and Denuvo is finally close to getting fully cracked thanks to one dedicated man who hasn't stopped for the last few years.

We'll know in a few months as he found a crack/flaw that in order to fix the Denuvo developers would have to re-create the program from scratch, and they wont.

Anyway I never leave reviews on metacritic.

https://www.vg247.com/2018/07/19/vg247-pulls-support-coverage-gog-com-following-pro-gamergate-tweet/
Following a recent (now deleted) tweet from digital distribution platform GOG.com, VG247 is pulling its support of the storefront for the foreseeable future.
In the past, our site has promoted GOG as a DRM-free alternative to Steam, and we’ve even supported the retailer with VG247-themed sales on the front page of the site.
Today, GOG tweeted out a promotional gif for Postal 2, which is not the problem. The gif contained an image of someone pissing on a headstone marked ‘games journalism’, which also isn’t the problem.
The problem is that the gif can be interpreted as a dogwhistle that panders to hate group GamerGate, which itself has been proven to lead to radicalism and even murder.
GamerGate has destroyed lives, and we’re very disappointed that GOG has furthered the divide between those who cover games and a vocal minority that hate games journalists, women, and minorities.
It could be that GOG didn’t know the significance of the dates on the headstone, but until we know the company is taking proper action to find out how this happened, we are pulling support.
Of numerous bs so far in this year, this is probably the biggest one.

Y'know what? Maybe it's for the best. I'm also "pulling support" and will not post any more links to vg247 site. They're into Destiny garbage anyway.

Also not the first time GOG was targeted by this rabble.

Social Justice Warriors have deemed the decade old meme “ PC Master Race” as inappropriate and offensive. It was a term coined during the heat of the seventh gen console wars as PC gamers would butt into flaming discussions about which console was better between the PS3 and the Xbox 360. While the Sony and Microsoft camps would claim that the Wii didn’t count because it was too weak, PC gamers would explain that all three consoles were peasants compared to the godly power of the glorious PC Master Race. This became a widespread meme thanks to critic Yahtzee using it in one of his videos.

Well I think vg247 has a valid point if gog knowing did this as a slight against people. However, if gog was asked to post the gif by the game vendor without knowing the significance the matter would be different. I'm not saying I support vg247 position but on the other-hand there is a world wide issue with radicalism and it seems to be accelerating. You might disagree with myself that this is a problem and we could have that debate elsewhere.

Oh Sega you got caught.:p

Link - https://torrentfreak.com/sega-accus...th-rushed-sonic-mania-plus-protection-180720/
The Bulgarian responsible for cracking the latest variants of the Denuvo anti-tamper technology has slammed SEGA for being "anti-consumer". Voksi says that when cracking the protection on Sonic Mania Plus, he noticed that the anti-piracy system hadn't been deployed properly, meaning that even people who buy the game will be negatively affected.
Also a video about that GOG Tweet that I agree with.

Sega rushed the product out and voksi is IMO overreacting there, it'll get patched for sure, it ain't Ubisoft's AC4 code. ;)

Not the first game to implement DRM to early or wrong. They spend over $100,000 a game to install it, and cant even get it right. That's what is laughable Joker.

It's a repeating cycle lately.;)

Still, it's Sonic Mania. And you know what I think about Nintendo stuff, ported or not.
Easy to keep calm for me (and my inner devil is somewhat happy ;)).

If they screw up the same way Yakuza 0 on PC ten days from now… I'll join:

I see it only matters if they screw up on a game you care about not one that doesn't interest you .... well that's one way to view things.

No surprise here. We had already forseen that in a discussion a few years ago, that streaming will be a thing in the future.

Angry Indie developer pulls game off GOG because of the Postal 2 tweet.

Hello everybody, Per request from the Polytron Corporation, FEZ will be unavailable for sale on GOG.COM starting on July 25, 4 PM UTC. If you own FEZ on GOG.COM by that date, you'll retain access to it in your library.
Nothing of great interest was lost anyway.:smug:
Seems this week will be marked with streaming and news about streaming.

No comment needed.
Seems Microsoft will release multiple versions so no I wont stream.
Microsoft has a history of releasing multiple versions of their console within a single generation (this one has had three versions of the Xbox One) but if these rumours are to be believed, the next will have multiple consoles with different purposes, starting with a streaming box.

Accused for piracy, Bulgarian police arrested Voksi:
https://www.pcgamer.com/denuvo-sues-voski-the-pirate-who-helped-crack-it/
Denuvo parent company Irdeto has issued a statement saying that Voksi was arrested by the Bulgarian Cybercrime Unit, following an Irdeto investigation into Denuvo hacking.

"Piracy is a threat that is now firmly established in the gaming industry, and we are focused on securing the content of game publishers and ensuring that hackers cannot distort the gaming environment for personal gain at the expense of other players," Irdeto Cybersecurity Services Vice President Mark Mulready said.
Voksi was loud against Denuvo's (certain) implementations, but for all I know he never did anything for his personal gain. If I understood him correctly, he bought every Denuvo title then cracked it for himself only to share with the community an info which titles are broken or bloated code scam that we're paying for assuming it's optimized for PC only to discover the code is hammering our hardware for no reason resulting in huge performance loss.
Is whistleblowing really a case of piracy? Dunno, we'll see what happens next. Depends on Bulgaria laws I guess.

In USA; you don't have to steal; just breaking DRM is a federal crime.

Shame he was very good at hacking that bloated DRM Denuvo. Sad thing is he could of avoided all this is if he wasn't so public, and accepted donations on his own site.

Now his knowledge wont be shared and he might work for them to patch the DRM. It's a no win for gamers but a win for Irdeto who bought Denuvo this year.

Not Eurogamer's but Valve's fail:
Steam has come under fire in recent months for opening its store to hundreds of decidedly dodgy games, and it seems this policy is once again hurting customers, as one game on the Steam store is reportedly turning players' computers into a cryptocurrency-mining botnet.

The offending game in question is called Abstractism - an indie which masquerades as a "trivial platformer" but seems to be doing something far more insidious. Multiple players have left negative reviews with screenshots showing evidence the game installs a Trojan virus "disguised as as a steam.exe process" along with malware under the name "abstractism launcher". After seeing these reports, YouTuber SidAlpha investigated the game and found these viruses are likely installing cryptocurrency mining software. This presents a huge risk for players, as according to CSO, "cryptojacking" can damage computer performance, increase electricity bills, and even infect cloud infrastructure.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

PCgamesN has fallen into the cesspool of numerous amateur gaming sites suggesting supercomputers for gaming.
https://www.pcgamesn.com/intel-i9-9900k-coffee-lake-benchmark-3d-mark
Intel's 8-core Coffee Lake i9 9900K is 18% faster than the AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
Of course, they "forgot" to mention prices - R7 2700X is $320 and i9 9900K should be $450:
https://www.forbes.com/sites/antony...5ghz-with-4-7ghz-all-core-boost/#5a5b01af7222
Even if one just needs to buy one of those two for bragging rights, it's cca 20% more power for cca $130 difference. In… What games? What kind of BS is that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Speaking of CPUs, Capcom is throwing sand into our eyes about why Monster Hunter will hammer CPU on PC:
https://www.dsogaming.com/news/capcom-explains-the-reasons-why-monster-hunter-world-is-cpu-heavy/
Capcom’s WBacon has shared some details about the engine powering it, and explained why the game is CPU heavy. As WBacon said, Monster Hunter World is powered by the MT Framework Engine which was able in past titles to use multiple CPU cores/threads.

“To eliminate interstitial loading during active gameplay, MHW loads the entire level into memory. In addition to managing assets loaded into memory, it keeps track of monster interactions, health status, environment/object changes, manages LOD & object culling, calculates collision detection and physics simulation, and tons of other background telemetry stuff that you don’t see yet requires CPU cycle. This is in addition to supporting any GPU rendering tasks.”
Dafuq?!
When I grow up I want to work on code optimization at Capcom. Or Ubisoft.
For no work I'll get paid.

Yakuza 0 finally came to PC today, with full mouse and keyboard support. But that’s not how you want to play a hardcore Japanese crime game. Nah, PC inputs are for suckers. At least, that’s what Sega wants you to think, since there’s a giant splash image when you launch the game reminding you that “real yakuza use a gamepad” - not mouse and keyboard.

Don't bomb game sales Sega with such bullshit. I won't forget this when I write Steam minireview.
