Do you enjoy "multilinear" RPG design

Great post.

I definitely agree that the wilderness areas of BG1 were something that I missed in BG2 - that I kept expecting it to open out, yet it never really did. I think the addition of such areas would improve a game that was essentially more of that multilinear variety.

If multilinear means BG2 design, I'll pass. I did not like BG2 and much prefer the first BG, as it has open-ended exploration and a true sense of adventure. BG2 is just set piece after set piece, it's too dense in content and too dense in general "stuff" available to the player. They needed to tone it down and widen it instead of making it so dense and linear.
