Vagrus the Riven Realms - How the Riven Realms came to be
Great news! Our campaign has just reached $20k.

We are also happy to report that the development on the first two milestones has been progressing so well that backers might see the new Alpha build - that include the milestones - come to their way sometime next week.

While waiting for that, we thought we would share a post here that gives quite an insight into how our small group of friends stepped on the road to become lifelong role-playing addicts, and how the Riven Realms as a setting started to slowly come together in Geri's - our dungeon master's - mind and campaigns from very early on. So without further ado, let's read his account on 'How the Riven Realms came to be'.

The Waylanders RPG Brigantia - First look!

Greetings adventurers,

The Waylanders development is progressing in a positive way, and we want to show you the latest version of one of the most emblematic locations in the game: Brigantia.

Brigantia is a bustling coastal city, and home to King Ith and his court. During the Celtic Era, Brigantia has the largest and densest population in Kaltia. The Tower, an ancient lighthouse, is located here. Also, the Celtic hillfort is near the Tower.

And now is time to watch the results by yourself.
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Developer Blog - Captain Mode
As Bannerlord’s multiplayer beta draws ever closer, we thought it would be a good time to discuss another of the game’s exciting game modes: Captain Mode.

With Fire & Sword and Napoleonic Wars veterans will already be somewhat familiar with the concept of Captain Mode, with a rudimentary version of this game mode appearing in both of those games. Likewise, if you have been following the development of Bannerlord for some time now, you will know that we took Captain Mode to gamescom back in 2017 and perhaps saw one of the videos we put out around that time. But for those of you who are unfamiliar with Captain Mode, allow us to give you an overview.

Captain Mode is a multiplayer game mode that pits two teams against each other in a player-vs-player battle, with each player having command of their own detachment of AI troops. With Bannerlord, the game mode has been revamped to provide players with a more structured and enjoyable experience, and on a much larger scale than was possible in our previous games. It shares some of its mechanics with Skirmish, which we talked about a few weeks back, but there are a few distinct differences between the two, other than the bots of course!

Pathfinder: Kingmaker Enhanced Edition - Feature Overview
Dear Pathfinders! We decided to revive the beautiful Dev Diary genre, which means that something really big and cool is coming! And you already know perfectly well what it is – in the nearest future we will release the epic Enhanced Edition of “Pathfinder: Kingmaker”. Numerous features shall be added to the game, which we’ve been working on during the last months. Yes, that’s right – while you’re sleeping, the devs are not only fixing bugs and making DLCs, but also carefully gathering all your feedback (both that which you left during the surveys, and also from all the forums, threads, comment sections and boards). We’ve been everywhere, trying to learn what we need to do so that PF: KM may become even better for you. We’ve analyzed all the feedback and added everything we could. Now, in these Diaries, we are going to tell you what we came up with. So, let’s jump right into it!

25 MMOs That Lived and Died Since Launch - PC Gamer
World of Warcraft launched in 2004. That makes World of Warcraft 15 years old, the age of an unruly teen who spends all their time playing World of Warcraft. And the cycle begins anew with the impending release of World of Warcraft: Classic, now in closed beta. Visiting Azeroth on the ground level for the first time, again, has been jarring for players, new and old. Vanilla features are getting reported as bugs and the much, much slower climb to the level cap sans the 15 years of quality of life changes and side activities will certainly lead to many gaunt-eyed staring contests in the mirror. Time has been kind to World of Warcraft. It hasn't been kind to our ideas of what it once was.

But it's been even meaner to all the MMOs that wanted a little nook in the caverns of our minds next to WoW. Like battle royale and mobas and survival games before that, MMOs were once the hottest shit. Being the next WoW felt like it was on every studio's agenda. Some MMOs found footing, but nothing ever toppled WoW. Let's remember the fallen (and the too-obscure-to-remember-it-fell-at-all). Here's a look at some of the notable MMOs that came and went during WoW's lifetime, with plenty of freemium MMOs skipped over for the sake of brevity.
Rumor: The Witcher 3 Releasing On Switch - GamingInstincts
A recent leak on ResetEra has revealed that Switch owners may be getting their hands on The Witcher 3 GOTY Edition this year. The post elaborates on the possible leak claiming that a reliable source from the distributor has leaked several images pertaining to the surprise reveal.

It should also be noted that the popular shopping website Taobao.com has already listed the Switch version of the game, along with several other sellers apart of Taobao.com. The leak also states that the release should arrive this coming September.

As of this writing, we’ve yet to hear any official confirmation regarding the leak, but the sources do seem rather reliable. It should also be brought up that this may be a region-specific streamable version of the game, similar to Resident Evil 7 and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on the hybrid console in Japan. Stay tuned for more on the potential leak of The Witcher 3 launching on the Switch.
Fable 4 May Have Been Leaked? - Forbes
Update: The Mixer database references Player.me, which is why Fable 4 is listed both here and on Twitch when searched. This doesn’t happen often with unreleased/unannounced titles, but this is not an actual leak, despite the fact that Fable 4 is likely to be revealed soon regardless. The original article follows below.

Does the Switch even have the graphical power to run a game like TW3? I wonder how watered-down it's going to be.

D&D Classics Enhanced Editions - First Time on Console Fall 2019!

Latest Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord - Developer Blog Q&A
Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord’s singleplayer campaign takes place in a vast sandbox with numerous systems working together to provide players with a deep and engaging gaming experience. Bringing these systems together and ensuring that they work alongside and complement each other is no small task. And with multiple programmers working somewhat independently on each system, an additional layer of complexity is added to the mix. This is where Ömer Sarı steps in. It is his responsibility to coordinate and organise the campaign team while ensuring that the programming work is of a consistently high standard.

Queen's Wish: The Conqueror - May 2019 Update
Another big month for getting stuff done. We are about 2 weeks from having the entire storyline written. That is the biggest single milestone. It’s the point where we go from “Writing a Game” to “Finishing a Game,” and it’s really exciting. All sound effects are done. This means we can load a lot of other fancy stuff (like weather) that were waiting for sounds.

Early Macintosh testing to get the game to a playable state is going very well, if exhausting. We’re getting dozens of bug reports a day, and each one gets us a little closer to done.

It will take about a week after the story is written to actually finish the game. This includes writing achievements, instructions, the splash screen, and so on. Then comes final testing and the Windows port. We’re still looking great for a September release.
Blizzard Entertainment - J. Allen Brack Interview - Game Informer
When Blizzard co-founder Mike Morhaime announced his retirement last year, the mantle passed to new president J. Allen Brack. After years over overseeing World of Warcraft, Brack now brings his years of experience to lead Blizzard into a new era. I sat down with him to hear his thoughts and Blizzard's process and we can expect in the future.

Chris Avellone on Post-game Content for Fallout: New Vegas - Eurogamer
After hours trekking across the wasteland, swatting away bloatflies and squashing hordes of ghouls, the end is in sight. Or at least Hoover Dam is. It's the intimidating final stage of Fallout New Vegas, and no matter your path until this point, you'll have to pick a side and fight an explosive battle to irrevocably change the fate of the Mojave.

A fate that is reported, rather than told, through a series of end slides - before you're taken to a save from before the battle. Ah.

It's a slightly frustrating ending, particularly when post-game content is so often used in RPGs to display the impact of a player's decisions. Even in Red Dead Redemption 2 (not an RPG), you can still find special encounters in the epilogue depending on whether you helped certain people in the past. It's possible to leave a tangible mark on the world, and it shows your decisions went beyond the moment to have long-term repercussions.

This is perhaps why the lack of post-game content Fallout New Vegas - which to me boasts some of the best narrative design in any game - feels like such a missed opportunity. Yet this abrupt ending wasn't Obsidian's intention. Post-game content was part of Obsidian's original plan for Fallout New Vegas, and had to be cut mid-development due to time constraints.

Josh Sawyer - Breaking the Mold RPG Evolution

This post-mortem of Deadfire will examine the assumptions the team made between the first game and the sequel, how expectations changed through the public beta, and what lessons they learned after the game was released. The talk will focus on narrative design, combat design, the ship combat system, and the decision to fully voice all dialogue. The end of the post-mortem will deal with post-launch support, including patches, features, and other DLC content.

Queen's Wish: The Conqueror - Jeff Vogel Interview - VentureBeat
When I first looked into longtime independent developer Jeff Vogel’s upcoming Queen’s Wish: The Conqueror, I found a number of things I expected: turn-based combat, a role-playing game with choices, and Spiderweb Software’s classic art style. What I didn’t expect to find was a game that involved managing shops and building forts.

Or a parable about how it’s time for the Baby Boomers to step aside in the United States and for the younger people to take over.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Developer Blog - Executions
Greetings warriors of Calradia!

In Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, you need to keep your head about you at all times. And with the game’s new death system, this rings especially true, lest your adventures come to an abrupt end to the executioner’s axe!

Executions make for quite a natural addition to the series. The medieval period is infamous for some of its troubling, if rather inventive, methods of execution. From dealing with treacherous vassals to striking fear into the hearts of the ruled, executions were a simple solution to otherwise complicated problems.
