I went for Core Edition, that's what the backer option has been translated to anyway, it's plentiful enough but I regret the OST.

We should create a tips & hints thread, that's a good idea It's kind of spontaneous atm.

It's kind of funny to read from several people that they liked Camillia best because it seems clear to me that you're meant from the very start to not like Camillia.
Let us know what you think about Wenduag, once you're further in the game!

I played for a bit last night and changed the game over to turn based battles as I like those better.

I love the sword instance near the start very interesting.

So far it feels like kingmaker, but better.

I decided to go with a Human Cavalier. A LG good knight sort of guy specialized with Longsword and shield who like to fight mounted on his trusted horse companion. So far, I'm still in the "maze"/cultist temple.

The first companion you meet is a longsword / shield paladin. They certainly get along well, except they are way too similar in term of equipment / style. I plan to replace her, eventually, for another close combat companion that is more different…

The companion is cool. He certainly pack a lot of punch. He is just pretty vulnerable whenever the combat get difficult so I'm eager to find him some barding.

Other than that, once in a while my cavalier doesn't seem to be able to mount his horse. I get no explanation why, if I failed a check or anything. That seems like a bug to me but there might be some explanations.

Is the horse at least one size bigger than you? AFAIK that's the only requirement. Mounts are normally growing in size and one has to wait for it to be big enough, though I imagine a horse is already full-sized from the start?

Some bardings may cause a problem, but rather cosmetic ones from what I've read (such as the horse being invisible).

Sure. My cavalier can even mount it most of the time. It's just that once in a while, I click on the "mount horse" skill, my cavalier walks to his horse, and instead of climbing on his back…. just nothing happens. It's puzzling. I have not used the spells that can resize my char so far.

Sounds like a bug indeed.

Wenduag … let us know as you learn more about her

On Camillia I think that is very subjective to say people are meant to not like her.

In addition care has to be taken when using the word "like" to begin with.

I "like" Camillia because she is such a bitch, basically, and find it amusing. I also find she has some interesting story background the more you get to know her. I do not "like" her as a person and would never want to be friends with her. I "like" her as a character as I think she is well done even if I despise who she is.

People will say they "like" a character and they could mean as a friend, as someone they find interesting, as a deep character, as a well written one … "like" can mean any number of things besides wanting that person as a friend, as someone you "like" as a person.

So funny…I knew that the first village would have someone to sell stuff to….it's like every game does this set amount of interactions and what will be in places.

I meant as a person, which in my experience is how most people mean it. Personally, I'm more like you. I "like" lots of characters because they're interesting, effective characters, but they might be total bastards. I'm too early on to know whether I'll like Camillia as a character, but she's certainly not a likeable person to start out. (I love the ominous tone her alignment obscuring necklace creates)

This game is amazing. The characters I've tried for the first portion so far (first 3 levels or so) -

Halfling sylvan sorcerer that rides his leopard around (Well, at level 4 he will.)

Human cavalier horse-specialist dude, to try the mounted combat.

Assimar Monk, Plumekin I think for the Dex and Wis bonuses. Unarmed specialist.

Elf hunter with a loyal dog companion.

Undead inquisitor with undead wolf companion (That looked fun)…

So many possibilities. I want to play with witch hexes and such as well… gah.

I think it depends on the area you are in. This confused me at first, too. You can't mount up in non-combat areas, only combat areas it seems.

That makes sense. It would just need to be better explained.

About animal companions, a little guide video to avoid some pitfalls (and you already thought Pathfinder was complex? Just wait):
loading…

Not sure he mentioned the combat areas, perhaps I missed it. It would make sense, but aren't there very few non-combat areas?

You can have a familiar though (using a rogue talent, every other level), but it's not the same as animal companion.

You people are making it hard for me to finish my heavily modded Fallout 4 playthrough. Are you saying I could be an undead warpriest in this game? I think that would be the winner before I even load up Pathfinder.

Took that class and leopard too, but went for halfelf instead just to see if riding will be possible too due to not small character size now. Not hoping much.

Oh and the voiceover?
Madman, of course.

A Halfling Madman ? Oh, now I have "head cinema" …

As much as I want a "normal" playthrough, I also know, hoeever, how easily I'm often frustrated - especially when it is required to do mi-maxing if one wants to beat a game. I absolutely hate that … But for DDo I at least … think … I understand most of the core rules, so I try that there sometimes - mostly with no or not much success, I believe.

Consideriung that, I lowered my difficulty in general a bit - but not into "too easy".

Does anyone of you happen to know whether I can change the dificulty settings still in mid-game ?

Apart from that i need to refrain myself from getting too deep into the game, as I want to be fresh next morning for visiting a museum …

No, you don't need to spend all of them to keep the familiar of course

You can change back and forth, anytime. Except the crusade management, if you set it on auto, you cannot go back to manual. There's a warning for such irreversible changes.

Yeah, it's tempting me too. I leave for vacation next week though, and I'm not looking to jump into anything heavy right now.

I'm glad the release seems a lot smoother compared to Kingmaker's.
