Gamasutra has another hosted article this week from Herman Tulleken that might interest a few of you about hex grids in games. So read on for his twenty facts.

At Gamelogic we are obsessed with grids. We make tools for grids and write about grids, but our obsession goes way beyond this (we even have "Grid shirt Fridays").

We thought it might be a good idea to share some of the interesting (and obscure) facts we have uncovered in our quest to know everything we can about grids and their use in games. We have been sharing a short fact each day over Twitter; here we expand on those facts and add a few more. These are all about hexagonal grids, one of our favorite types of grids.
More information.

mmmmm, math and games! <drool>

(But honestly hexes need to go, as do grids. We needed them so we could just count them to figure out distances without having to use that nasty distance formula and/or rulers but computers don't need them at all! See Divinity: Original Sin for example.)

But humans do play those games, not computers. ;)

Whenever there is the option to permanently show the grid/hex in a TBS game, i turn it on. I really like the better overview with a grid/hex displayed.
