question about free roaming and mods

hi guys,
i've 2 question about this game:

1. is it possible, once got spaceship, go into space and free roam? i would say, is it possible to land on every planet i want or all is story driven?

2. are there mods for precursors? if yes, where can i download them?

There are only six planets that can be visited and this is story driven. But you can always free roam and trade or fight Elite-like between dozends of space stations!

As far as I know there are no mods for The Precursors available yet.
