Found this article from March about a new D&D open world game.

Open-World Third-Person Dungeons and Dragons RPG In Development - IGN
Hidden Path Entertainment, the studio that worked with Valve to develop Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, is working on a "AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will be taking place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise."

Hidden Path shared the news on Twitter by calling out for potential Graphics Programmers, Lead Graphics Programmers, Senior Technical Artists, and Writers to apply to join the team and work on this project.

By looking at the job descriptions, it appears as though this Dungeons & Dragons project will be built in Unreal Engine 4. Hidden Path is also looking for those experienced in console technology (hinting at a release beyond PC), a writer who has narrative branching skills and experience with ensemble casts, and more.

Skald is really coming along nicely!

I'm planning to buy myself the Edda one day to be able to read what a Skald really had to know.

Will be "action", I bet.

Everything is "action" these days.

I will prefer to stick to DDO, though, because it is so much old school.

Elder Scrolls-like The Wayward Realms - New FAQ
What kind of game will this be; will it be similar to The Elder Scrolls? A: The game is a first person RPG similar to The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall, set in a very large, open-world, filled with many interacting factions, in which choice and consequence will play a major role.
Bethesda Update Is Bad News for The Elder Scrolls 6 - CB
From what we understand, The Elder Scrolls 6 is still in pre-production and this isn't going to change until Starfield is released. So, a delay to Starfield has a domino effect. In other words, two games basically got delayed today: Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6. Where does that put The Elder Scrolls 6? Well, it's not releasing anytime soon.

Based on how long previous Bethesda Game Studios' projects have taken -- like Skyrim -- The Elder Scrolls 6 will probably take four to six years to make, including pre-production. Thankfully, the bulk of pre-production is complete. So it's possible this number could be more like three years, but even if it is, that puts the game out in 2026.

Advanced Lighting Engine for Islands of the Caliph Showcase

This is demonstrating the "Advanced Lighting Engine" for Islands of the Caliph. Basically, the closer the player is to a light source, the larger the sphere of visibility. You cane see when stepping away from torches, the visible area becomes much smaller. It's not realistic at all, but I think that's okay, it works as intended.
Elder Scrolls devs RPG The Wayward Realms is seeking funding - PCGamesN
When we first heard about The Wayward Realms last year, we reckoned that investors and publishers would be clambering over each other to get a piece of that action. Surely even the suits in their glass-and-steel towers can see that a spiritual successor to The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall with a huge systems-based world is a wonderful idea? Apparently, however, it's not quite so easy to find funding for an RPG game, as The Wayward Realms is still seeking investors to truly get the project off the ground.

Almost 7 years now since Bethesda's last release other than Fallout 76.

No bueno…
I don't care for Skyrim at all personally, but it's pretty damn weird that it will take the company 15+ years to put out a sequel to one of the best-selling games of all time. Seems like a laughably terrible business decision.

Perhaps they were planning to make more money with MMOs and mobile games.

Queen's Wish 2: The Tormentor May 2022 Update - Kickstarter
The story of the game is done! We're only a few days from the game being actually complete. We'll be testing and tweaking it for a couple months before release in (most likely) August. It's great news to be this close to the end of the journey, though configuring everything for a game release is a daunting job. Lots of online stores to configure and lots of tricky problems to solve. We're not expecting any delays, though.

We have sent out the first set of backer surveys. If your reward tier included your name in the credits or you ordered a map or certificate, you should have received an email. If you haven't, check your spam filter. If you ordered a physical object, we need your address. If you're in the credits, we want to make sure you're listed the way you want to be listed.
Diablo III Retrospective - GameSpot
Everyone loves a comeback story. When Diablo 3 launched 10 years ago today, it was a mess. A pernicious mixture of server issues and deeper design flaws angered a fan community that had already been anxious about this new chapter in the beloved series, which had been more than a decade in the making. What Blizzard pulled off in the intervening years is nothing short of incredible, making one of the worst launches in company history into one of its most beloved games--an impeccably fine-tuned loot-RPG that's accessible enough for beginners, but deep and rewarding enough to tempt long-term fans back again and again.
Final Fantasy XV hits 10 million copies sold - RPGSite
The milestone was announced in a tweet to the official Japanse FF15 twitter account, revealing "cumulative worldwide sales of 10 million units", and thanking fans for their support. It's unlikely there'll be an official Western version of this post, as the English-language FF15 account ceased posting a few years ago.

Techland announces new open world fantasy action RPG - Metro
Techland is already talking about its next project. It hasn’t got a name yet, but it’s described as a new IP and an ‘AAA open world action RPG in a fantasy setting’.

‘We want to create a fully next gen experience. A new fantasy epic set in a sprawling open world, fuelled by the skills and experience we have gained as a team over the years, infused with new ideas, passion, and creativity’, says CEO Paweł Marchewka.

‘While we cannot share more details about this project now, we’re all truly invested in it and looking forward to showing it to gamers when the time is right.’

I wouldn't have expected Techland to go from zombie post-apoc to fantasy, but I'll definitely be watching with interest. They know how to make open-world games.

I second that, at least from a DL1 perspective :)

Hellslave looks good! :)

You can try the demo in GoG. I tried it and it looks and sound great, with a very bleak atmosphere. But since its a single character dungeon crawler, I did not find combat that strategically exciting compared to multi-character crawlers like Wizardry.

Final Fantasy 12's Impact on the Franchise Is Bigger Than it Seems - Gamerant
Final Fantasy 12 was released back in 2006 to commercial and critical acclaim, earning several game of the year accolades and receiving particular praise for its innovative combat system, graphics, music, and voice cast. Particular praise was directed at the game for refreshing the franchise and moving away from established JRPG tropes, providing something new and innovative that resonated with players of the franchise. Final Fantasy 12 looked to revolutionize the franchise rather than revamp it - the impact of which is still being felt to this day through its legacy in the games that followed.
Stray Blade is an ARPG with serious Kingdoms Of Amalur energy - RPS
Publisher 505 Games used their debut showcase stream to show off some more of Point Blank Games upcoming action RPG Stray Blade, along with Forbidden Studios supernatural first-person survival game Among The Trolls. Stray Blade was first touted on the Xbox stream at last year's Gamescom but it's been in development for several years at the Berlin-based developers. The game stars an anthropologist who's been sucked through a magic portal and dumped in the Valley of Acrea with a little scarf-wearing wolf called Boji for company.
Marvel's Midnight Suns may be releasing soon - Eurogamer
Marvel's Midnight Suns has just been age-rated in South Korea.

The age classification - deliberated on 13th May and published on Friday - suggests the tactical card-battle RPG may be coming to PC, Switch, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles sooner than expected.

As spotted by a members of r/LeaksandRumours, the RPG has been awarded a 15 rating, the description for which explains how Marvel's Midnight Suns will take on the Hydra in a game. The board cites the game's "many expressions that look like violence and blood towards living things" as the reason why it was given a 15 rating.

Mainly because they were (still are) milking Skyrim for all it's worth..Why spend money developing a new game when there are plenty of saps out there, ready to buy non-stop neverending special editions et al...
