The last album I bought was RA the Rugged Man's All My Heroes are Dead. It's one of the best albums I've heard, but you need headphones, as this is hip-hop, and the lyrics carry more weight than the music.

I've been listening to more hip-hop and synthpop lately than metal--stuff like Grimes. My current metal fixations are Progressive Deathcore (Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya), and djent (Car Bomb, Vildhjarta).

These guys got the second-best metal album of the year in 2019, and nobody noticed. Barely any reviews. Crickets.

Shoegaze is amazing, and would have been the 1990s if grunge hadn't taken over. I strongly recommend My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Catherine Wheel, and Ride.

From that era is also suggest Curve, Cocteau Twins and Lush. Quieter but still layered and interesting.

Oh, my dear child, if you're looking up Curve you have barely scratched the surface. Would you like Hurls and I to properly educate you in the Waze of the Gaze? The good news is that there have been great bands putting out gazer-friendly work ever since the banner days of the early 90's. You've got to look a little harder, but there's great stuff to be found. Heck, Lush put out their "reunion" EP just a few years ago, since you mention them. (exchanged a few messages with Ron back in the Napster days, he thanked me for making their stuff available since it was OOP at the time)

(Sad that Danella never really did much after AAM died, Red Hot Red never did get off the ground)

(Richard once emailed me that he and Liz were putting a home studio together to try recording again, wonder if anything ever came of that)

Miki’s new band is Piroshka, more indie rock than ‘gaze. Recent favourites, Loveblind, Air Formation, Daysleepers, Sea of Tranquility, Holy Drone (changed name from Danxia), Blush Reponse, Chatham Rise, The Meeting Places, Churchhill Garden etc. etc.

Gaze radio station I prefer is DKFM.

I had no idea shoegaze was still being made. It's one of those tragic underdog genres that deserves more credit.

Gonna shoot a band back: Look up the album Jord by Mol if you like shoegaze combined with black metal. There is an excellent live performance on YouTube. Very heartfelt…I usually don't say that about metal, but Mol is floaty and delicate.

I'll have to look up the Bedazzled label.

Edit again: Can't seem to find that Siddal album, either. I checked Amazon. I'll keep digging.

You want "Pubic Fruit" if you can find it. That's a combination of their first 3 EPs plus an extra track. Good stuff.

Yep, Siddal is one of my favorites. You'll have a difficult time finding a copy of "The Pedestal". You might have better luck tracking down "The Crossing". The real crown is if you can get a copy of their contribution to the Bedazzled Singles Club. I got all 4 EPs back when they came out (3 of the 4 are the bands I linked previously). I noticed that if you follow the link above and jump over to the entry for The Crossing, they've got links to 6 songs in the bottom right. They've got pointers on the Pedestal page as well. Enjoy.

If that's the type of stuff you prefer, we can wander down that trail a bit.

Criminally short, but mindblowing.

AGS was sometimes accused of being a Love Spirals Downward tribute band, but Scott and Erin branched out quite a bit with each release.

Absolutely, and you do hear a few modern artists admitting to taking influences from the Scene the Celebrated Itself.

The board has a tag for youtube. So [ youtube ] without the spaces, then copy in just the identifier for the video (the 8-10 characters after v= ) and the close it with [ /youtube ] again omitting the spaces inside the braces.

U.D.O. & Das Musikkorps der Bundeswehr - Neon Diamond

I've been listening to folk metallers Skyclad recently. Their early albums really hit the spot for me, particularly the first one. Love the hair as well… I've gone bald these days, but I used to have hair down to my arse and the sight of 90s metallers always brings back happy memories! Some great earnest face zooms in this video as well, very entertaining.

I use a peer to peer network to check out music then search to buy. Never in 10 years managed to purchase any Siddal (amongst others) yet. But on network (soul seek) several sources.

The last few days I've been listening to Depeche Mode, from the beginning to the end. Really excellent stuff, a true treat for your ears
