As a preparation for our Game of the Year 2016, I would like to work on getting the correct list of nominees. In our database there are 128 games listed that were released in 2016. These are all in the unfiltered list below.
I want to ask you to check out this list and tell us, which games should not be in this list in your opinion and what games we have missed,

These are technically expansion (there might be others in the list):
Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear (require BG:EE)
Eisenwald: Blood of November (it's a standalone expac though, but only 6-10 hours long),
Pillars of Eternity: The White March, Part 2 (require PoE and TWM part 1)

Also, Enderal: The Shards of Order is technically a total conversation mod. If we don't have a "mod" category, it could stand with "full game" though.

No vote...just a bad year in general for new games.

Good year to play some older games for the first time or replay.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine expansion seems to be missing (released on May 30, 2016).

Personally I think as long as it's content one can play through (and not just item or skin pack) it should be eligible to be voted for.

It's not missing - it's an expansion. While some sites did put it among games nominees, this expansion is not a standalone product. If it was standalone so you can buy only that expansion and play without buying something else, you'd most probably see no objection.

Some comments with respect to this list.

With expansions it all depends on how we enter them in the database. Sometimes they are thrown in with the game and sometimes a new entry in the database is made for it. In the first case it will not end up in the list in the second case it will. This is why you see some and some not in the list.
My personal opinion is that expansions should not be contenders for GotY.
That said, I do wonder if a game like Siege of Dragonspear is an expansion in the usual sense.

Another reason why some games are in the list that might not qualify as an RPG, is because an editor added them in the database, in order to post news about that game.
This list is extracted from our database without applying any filtering and posted here to filter it :)

My personal opinion is that expansions that have the scope of full games and are clearly seperated from the base game should be included. Sure these are soft criteria but there aren't many of them so it just could be decided on a case.by-case basis.

Final Fantasy X HD came out this year on PC. http://store.steampowered.com/app/359870/

Obduction, as it says on the list, definitely isn't an RPG. It's straight-up Myst-style adventuring.

Another for the list, which is easy to forget because it's only in the Oculus store: Chronus - a funky RPG where dying makes you a year older.

Woah, haven't heard of most of these titles. Eh? Dishonored II an rpg? It treads the line here and there, but I wouldn't call it one.
