Great list Kordanor!

8000+ hours of WoW ?

A couple of questions:

1. What did you think in more detail about Civ 6? (can't watch your review as my German ist nicht so gut) I am not an expert, but played one full game on Prince (or maybe King) and found the AI terrible. I find that playing on harder difficulties only makes the AI richer and have other bonuses but not any better. So I stopped playing halfway through my second game.

2. I had a lot of fun with Knights and Merchants when I bought it years ago. I couldn't beat one of the levels after 30 tries or so and quit (one of the battle levels where you can't build anything), but really liked the game and animations. Was a lot of fun.

3. XCOM: EU, what did you dislike about the game mechanics ? I really enjoyed the game myself. I found it to be entertaining.

Thanks Pladio

Actually the 8000+ h weren't that surprising to me. Played quite hardcore when it was released until Cataclysm and continued "casually" after that. I even reached Warlord (Rank 13 of 14) in the classic pvp ranking system (for those not familiar with WoW: You had to be one of the ~4-5 people of the realm with the most honor points in the week (earned by "skill" * "time investment") for multiple weeks in a row). I had to take vacation to actually reach that rank.

What was more surprising to me was the relation to my total time with all games. Didn't think that WoW was 1/3 of my total time.

Civ 6: When did you play Civ 6?
I played Civ 6 on release and after the Fall Patch. At release the AI was horrible, horrible, horrible! They literally attacked your with settlers and stealing a unescorted settler in the first turns was almost a must-do tactic as it was so extremely easy (Deity Difficulty).
So in Single Player the game was no challenge at all and I can't think why you should have wanted to play more than one match to see what the game itself had to offer. In Multiplayer you could have quite some fun though..
They improved quite a bit in the Fall Patch. They fixed quite some exploits (you cannot stack the range bonus of baloons anymore for example) and they improved the AI quite a bit. Don't get me wrong, it was still bad. But now it was also a good game in single player. And they also improved it in multiplayer by implementing dedicated balanced MP maps.
One of my biggest issues with the game was the factory bonuses. A factory in an industrial district has bonus in a radius of 6 tiles. So it made total sense to cramp all Cities together just to profit from as many factories as possible. There were no drawbacks for just creating as many cities as possible (Contrary to Civ 5, where multiple cities increased research points / culture points needed, as well as making it harder to build national wonders).

I haven't played it anymore, but they changed the factory bonus since then and with doing so, a big point of the issue I had.

Knights and Merchants:
Great game and I disliked levels where you were just running around with troops. Not because of the difficulty though but just because this wasn't why I played this kind of games. But it had great aesthetics, felt very "chunky", and I liked the german voices. Will never forget their "Essen fassen!" when you sent your troops eating.

XCom:
The short version: I don't like the two action-system combined with ranged combat, especially with to-hit calculations and with a high impact per shot. It's a very board-game-like system which makes no sense simulation wise. Also deaths had a high chance to cause a downward spiral, so while Ironman was an option in the game, the game wasn't designed for that.
The long version: Check my post on Three Moves Ahead: https://www.idlethumbs.net/forums/to…comment-208212

Very impressive list Kordanor. Kudos for all the time and effort you put into making it . It makes me wish I had done something similar, but that would be impossible for me to do with any degree of accuracy at this point.

I started gaming very young. My first consoles were the Atari 2600 and the Magnavox Odyssey 2. I didn't really get into computer gaming until around 1993-94, although I did play quite a few C64 games with a cousin who had that system.

I estimate I probably played at least 600 to 700 games before I even got into PC gaming, and that's not counting the Atari and Magnavox titles since most of those were so simplistic that I barely consider them games. That's spread out between the NES, Sega Master System, Super-NES, Sega Genesis (Mega Drive), and the TurboGrafx 16.

Impressive and very extensive list! Fun to scroll through.

I feel like I wouldn't even have one third of the amount you have if I were to make a list. Then again, I started kind of late compared to most people here (late '90s I think) and didn't dedicate all my spare time to it either (I also spent a lot of time on MUSHes in those days).

I think everyone could do such a list, it's just lots of effort and investigative work, which also can be quite fun.
While this wouldn't have been possible offline, the interwebs is offering lots of resources.
As mentioned in the original post I went through every single game on two Wiki pages to identify which games I played on the C64 as I didn't know the names of lots of these games. But even there some games were not listed.
And again and again one information lead to another, up to a point where I cannot think of a single game which I played a significant amount of time (let's say more than 10 or 20 Minutes) which is not on that list.
Ok, not exactly true, there is still one game which I couldn't identify. But that's the absolute exception.

There is even one game which I found via the music. I didn't remember anything about the game but the music and so I recorded myself humming the music, asked on a C64 fanpage. After a few responses and suggestions which I all neglected, one guy insisted that it is one particular game. Just that there isn't any video on youtube showing the music. So he linked me the C64 sound file and voila…now "Scrolls of Abadon" is on my list.
So yeah, it's just lots of time and effort, but with the resources and people available to help, it's definitely a task which can be accomplished, at least by 99% completion.

And which also rules me out. Nice list you have there, though. Congrats on having more self discipline than I, although I'm really not setting the bar very high.

Hrhr, thanks! But it's also always the question how much fun you have doing it.
And some more boring work like saving/ converting screenshots can be done next to listening to podcasts for example.
