Finished today Wolfs Rain
Not a bad anime. Liked the dark vibe in it. The story was fine and interesting and the animation is well done.
It's not a must watch, but I do recommend it, since I liked it enough.

Anyone saw fairy tale ? It seems to be the best anime on netflix B with high praise on imdb but… The child content is high in this one, ugh. This is after one episode.

I'm sticking with it for now. I can stomach the idiocy, however the animation quality is very very low. In fact, it's non existing. it's just a slideshow with - if you're lucky - a moving hand or leg here and there

It's a typical shounen (aimed at a young male audience) Anime series in the vein of Naruto, One Piece, Hunter x Hunter, Bleach and Dragon Ball, if you know any of them. I love the like.
They are all based on kids or teenagers getting stronger over time and fighting, which can be extremely thrilling, similar to sports animes. But if you are looking for something more mature, it's the wrong sub-genre. *)

I watched a couple dozen episodes of Fairy Tail when it first came out and it was good spirited fun, but after a while I switched to the Manga. Animes based on long Manga series often have a lot of filler episodes because their release schedule is usually faster than the Mangas they are based on, but it's fairly easy to avoid those.

*) On exception I can think of that looked similarly wacky but had very strong themes and was overall just very good is the whole story of Rurouni Kenshin. A good order would be 1. anime series up to episode 62, 2. Trust & Betrayal OVA, 3. manga starting at chapter 152.

These last two weeks, I had some more spare time, which led me to go Anime overdose. Well, something like that.

I did quite enjoy this good mystery crime solving anime series, with nice drawing art and good story. The title is Gosick

Jumped on the next one. Liked this one too. A Sci-fi/romance/drama/comedy. I rarely watch dose kind of story lines, but this one I did like. The art style is gorgeous, it was really fun to watch Plastic Memories.

Next… 5 Centimeters Per Second
This one is a must watch if you haven't already. It has the one of the best and beautiful drawing art style in a anime I have ever seen. Very delicate.

Next… Children Who Chase Lost Voices aka. Journey to Agartha. Splendid art style, very beautiful.

And the next… The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Finally watched this one. It was on my list for a long time.
This one I liked as well.

Anyone else watched these? Did you like them?

So, yeah. That is actually a lot of anime I watched lately…should I be worried?

Guess I'll throw in a few recommandations myself…. I'll try to make the list not too lengthy. Some of these are among my favorites, others less so but they're all good ones that should cover a variety of taste .

- Action
Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Tsuioku Hen
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=73

A classic, one of my favorite

Seirei No Moribito
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=4403

Decent amount of action, but there is quite a bit of character development as well. Has a bit of fantasy, but fairly limited. Some of the best fight scenes (spear fights mainly) out there. Has a vibe that reminds me a lot of Ghibli studio's works.

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=6107

Follows the story of two brothers who broke the taboo of attempted to resurrect their dead mother through Alchemy as kids without truly knowing the price of such a thing. Lots of magic like powers I guess, and quite a bit of action.

Black Lagoon, Second Barrage, Roberta's blood trail
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=3395

Little to no fantasy, dark mood and lots of action. Follows the adventures of a bored salary man who ends up with a kind of mercenary company who operate on an island ruled by mafia and such.

Read or Die (tv series & OVA)
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=105

Spies / Special agents with interesting special powers

Full Metal Panic & Full Metal Panic Fumoffu
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=17
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=959

One is an action packed series and the other is a commedy based on the former but both are pretty good. (Well I watched that many years ago tho..but I recall it to be!)

There's a ton of other good action series, old and new I guess…
Here's also a few recommandation for shows that aren't action series but are pretty good each in their own genre.

Stein's Gate
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=7729

Time travellers, Conspiracy and Microwaves.

Spice and Wolf (1&2)
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=5406

Follows the adventures of a merchant who ends up with a wolf spirit as a traveling companion.

Nodame Cantabile
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=4691

Humour and slice of life… centers around music university students. No action at all here, be warned. Just interesting characters, dialogue and what not.

Sakamichi no Apollon: Kids on the Slope
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=8870

The life of a few kids in Japan of the 1960s.
Again no action there, but really touching.

Welcome to the N.H.K.
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=4121

a bit strange but worth checking out heh.

Genshiken
http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl…anime&aid=1783
Otakus, requires a certain knowledge of that ''culture'' to fully enjoy I guess.

Clannad & Clannad Afterstory
Should make you laugh and will likely make you cry as well heh.

There's a ton of other great series… Hajime no Ippo, Dennou Coil, Tiger & Bunny, Anohana, Fate/Stay Night, Fate/Zero, Cowboy Bebop, Hunter X Hunter, Mushi-shi, Gintama, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, Rurouni Kenshin, Attack on Titan, Log Horizon…

But the list would go on for far too long

I'm in the middle of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood. Having seen Fullmetal Alchemist the earlier anime, I was at first disappointed this newer version seemed to be just rehashing it. But as I got deeper in the storyline changed and now I'm enjoying the newer version much more then the older one. I'm constantly amazed at how the Japanese can juxtapose the whimsically silly with the utterly horrific. If you enjoy anime I can totally endorse Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood.

When does Brotherhood starts to improve? I saw the first 5 episodes and they looked the same as the original so didn't continue.

I would say you probably hit the cut off as to when the storyline really starts to deviate from the original series. What I did notice is in the beginning, they tended to condense the storylines from the original and then around episode 8 or 9 they started to change. You probably stopped right before they started to change.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is supposed to be a proper anime version of the manga, the old anime took many liberties with the storyline.

I haven't read the manga so I can't say if that is true or not.

Can't recall on top of my head, but I do remember dropping it at first because it seemed to be the same and then when I picked it up again and continued realized it was quite a bit better

Mushishi
A truly fantastic anime. Every episode is stand-alone, and every episode brings a great story. It has nice animation and artstyle, followed by a magical soundtrack and ambiance, also good voice acting.
One of the better anime I've seen, and since I like it a lot, it is easily a 9/10.
Now I am looking forward to Mushishi Zoku Shou.

One of these days I'll move my posts from tv series thread here…
If only I wasn't too lazy.

Gamebreaking news is that the most unique manga Ajin was filmed into anime 13ep tv series and movie trilogy (same content so it's on viewer to pick what to watch). Currently is being aired in Japan (the first movie and a bunch of episodes).

The interesting part is who did it: Netflix!
The same Netflix is bringing it worldwide as Netflix Original in a month from now:
https://www.netflix.com/hr/title/80043576

What's it about and why did I say it's most original?
The story starts with a random kid who's totally opposite of Spielberg's yucky superchildren in every single way. Not only that, we're looking into a character that rarely exists in the movies/series industry and especially in manga/anime - cold and emotions impaired possibly sociopath or highly functional autist (asperger syndrome).

The world discovered that immortals exist. People who upon death completely regenerate. But unlike Hollywood movie heroes or Hollywood tv series villains, in Ajin immortals are being hunt by governments in order to die thousand deaths for fiscal interests. You need an effective assassin? New drugs test subject? Organ donor who basically provides an endless amount of those? Just imagine the possibilities! Catch an immortal and you got yourself billions guaranteed.

Of course our psycho kid not aware of what he is gets hit by a truck and it's discovered he's one of those immortals as he regenerates. The chase begins with no hint where the story will go and how will it end. Especially where the main protagonist's reactions are unpredictable at best.

Except the unique story and characters, expect lots of blood and gore. Here's an example pic from manga:

-

IMO this will be an insant classic so don't miss it on Netflix 12th of April (and most probably on sites specialized for anime for example Crunchyroll).

There is only one possible problem I see there and it's the current state of manga which is still ongoing. Seven volumes were released so far, the eighth one is expected next month. There is no info if 8th volume will be the end or the story will still continue to roll.
While buyable almost everywhere, those interested in english translation can grab manga directly from the licensed publisher (vertical inc):
http://www.vertical-inc.com/books/ajin_demi-human.html

No budge?

Well maybe the currently airing one helps.
It's Erased and is being aired worldwide.

Satoru is a 29-year-old aspiring manga artist who works part time as a pizza delivery man. That part of his life is as normal as can be, yet he discovers he also has a supernatural power. Sometimes, without warning, he will find himself a few minutes in the past, at a point in time where he will be able to save the life of someone in his vicinity. While he finds the power a nuisance, he always does his best during one of these “revivals” to figure out who is in danger and how to save them. The show is still airing,

But, when his mother is killed and he is being hunted as the sole suspect, he finds himself sent not a few minutes into the past but rather 18 years back to the world of 1988. Now, a 29-year-old man in a 10-year-old’s body, he comes to believe that the key to saving his mother is to first save Kayo, a young friendless girl destined to be abducted and murdered in the days to come.
So far 10 episodes were aired (11 in fact depending on your location and streaming site) and you can watch all of them. 12th episode will be the final one.

Generally it's available on Crunchyroll worldwide:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/erased

Depending on your location it may still happen Crunchyroll is not allowed to stream to your area or you simply hate that site, but don't worry, in that case your options are:
Daisuki (worldwide offers english, spanish and russians subtitles) - http://www.daisuki.net/us/en/anime/detail.ERASED.html
Funimation (US only) - http://www.funimation.com/shows/erased/home
AnimeLab (AU and NZ only) - https://www.animelab.com/shows/erased

All these sites and streams on them are legal! If you're not a subscriber you can still watch everything on these sites for free but prepare to endure an advertisment or two.

Me? I just cannot wait to see how it ends.

Is it really that good? Dunno. But the vote on Kotaku, although the show is still ongoing, says it's the best anime of winter 2016:
http://tay.kinja.com/poll-the-best-a…016-1759605243
20% people voted for it, while second placed Gate took "only" 10%.

You are kinda amusing joxer, the Winter anime season is almost over (both ERASED and Ajin are good picks though). You should be checking was is coming for the Spring season…that start in less than 2 weeks.

Sorry, but it just doesn't work that way with me.
I don't have enough time nor nerves to watch every single (too often!) crap pilot episode. Instead, I leave it to "suckers" () so they filter it all out and bring up just a couple of very good titles after a while. Then I check those. When I get time…

In my case, spring shows will have to wait till summer.
There is a new promising mystery, suspense, thriller, horror, sci-fi crazyness around the corner? Right. It won't escape anywhere and I'll watch it if it turns out to be good and not an overhyped garbage or yet another soap opera con attempt.

But since we're here… Any tips from you?
Not on upcoming stuff. On existing finished or currently ongoing anime.

From the winter season? Ajin and ERASED are the best stuff I'm watching. The rest is rather generic (Gundam will always be Gundam).

Active Raid is deliciously campy though and full of sci-fi mecha crazyness, but scene direction is kinda hit or miss depending on the episode. It is also split-cour (i.e. 24 episodes but the other half will play this summer, which piss me off because we are just done with the introduction of character and starting the real plot).

Older stuff not mentioned in here that has mystery suspense, thriller, horror, sci-fi crazyness themes and are pretty good: UN-GO (detective story with some supernatural elements) and Shin Sekai Yori (mystery/horror/supernatural/sci-fi coming of age story).
