Kingmaker Pathfinder: Kingmaker Question/Tips & Tricks Thread

Pathfinder: Kingmaker
I don't like leaving PC on while no one's home during week day :(

I started playing again. Seems like some of bugs are addressed but some weren't. I failed Amiri's personal quest because of the bug *sigh*. I don't have any earlier save to resolve this so I decided to push on forward. But I'm also suffering from another bug. Has anyone encountered Linxia yet?

I got this kingdom problem called "Linxia is looking for Darven" which keeps reducing my kingdom stat every week or two. I've already met Darven and Linxia ended up fleeing but that doesn't seem to resolve this kingdom issue and my kingdom is continuously taking stat reduction. Sounds like a bug right? :(

A short update regarding the old question "Can I sell that random stuff I just looted?"
There's a few items that are usually sold, that you should actually keep for quests.

- A single emerald may be needed for an artisan side quest.
- A single emerald necklace is needed for another artisan side quest.
- Just to make sure, keep a single copy of each book you find. They are also sometimes involved in quests.

Note that you do not loose much when you sell them anyways. May just be harder/pricier to get the required items. At the very least, you can buy them from the merchant you sold them to.

A related, general tip: avoid selling anything of potential interest to merchants that may disappear / get killed. Won't be able to buy stuff back from them. The ones I remember that may disappear:
- The merchant that for a short time occurs just to the right of the dwarven merchant in the capital. Forgot the merchants name, sorry. He's related to Jeathal's questline.
- The mage Bartholomew.
- I think there was a merchant in one of the barbarian camps. I have yet to check whether he is still there after they left. Guess not.
- There are probably more? Is the goblin merchant staying around? He was selling that very nice weapon for 1234567 gold.

Great tips, thanks! For merchants, there is also a kobold merchant if you
ally with the kobolds. He's left to Tartuk and sells all the items you might have missed inside the ruins.

See as a holy Paladin of Iomedae. I can not allow those monsters to live. It's my civic-duty to cleanse the barony of all non-humans that are deemed monsters.:devilish:

That's cool, though. I like how the game gives you these options. I think an evil playthrough would be fun, too. Does anyone know if the barony changes to look more menacing if you make an evil barony?

I haven't progressed that far as an evil character yet. Though from what I read your buildings in town change, and you see monsters walking around your Barony.

That's amazing :D. I hope by allying with certain monsters they start showing up in the barony. And the barony is supposed to change based on village/town/city size, but I'm not sure if they fixed that bug yet where it didn't change.

@Cacheperl;, not sure if you noticed this by now, but the bracers of archery do work, they just don't display an actual attack bonus on the character sheet because they give a Competence Bonus. Bonuses like Luck, Sacred, Competence, Morale, etc., all stack, but they do not show up on the actual character sheet to my knowledge, only bonuses that say "Gives a +1 to attack bonus" in that form actually show on the sheet. Hope this helps. Would be an improvement to see the various bonuses even when blessed or using other enhancements show up somewhere on the character sheet.

Thanks for the reminder. Just checked this, and you seem to be right about the bracers. For me, they are not visible in the mouse over in character info, and only indirectly visible in the combat log. So if my BAB is +3, and I get +2 from dex, maybe +1 from the weapon, then the mouse-over will say +6. The combat log will say +7, but it will not specifically say where the additional +1 comes from.
(tested with the lesser bracers.)

At least Morale bonuses to attack (from Heroism in this case) seem to be listed in mouse-over info. I suspect that the game does not list attack bonuses that only apply to specific weapons. (Similarly, they do not list AC bonuses against specific weapons, such as +AC against ranged attacks).

And with respect to monsters in the kingdom: I was somehow unsure why skeletons and golems were starting to guard my chaotic good Kingdom capital (after I became King). Especially the skellies. Should I have fed my guards better?

Good investigative skills my man, thanks for the info!

Looks like Jaethal is up to no good, LOL! I would suspect it had something to do with her, but who knows. I'm only in Chapter 2 now, long way to Kingship. I look forward to checking it out, though!

For the first time in a long time I'm finding it fun to replay the starting content of a CRPG immediately after doing it already. I had a blast playing Chapter 1 again. My Archaeologist is still kind of weak and I built him poorly (again, lol), but it's still a ton of fun. :D

Any thoughts on multiclassing Harrim to 4 Cleric/1 Sacred Huntsmaster (Inquisitor)? He gets a Mastadon pet companion, which fits him lore-wise I feel, and also gives an extra animal to throw on the front line with Valerie. I am speccing Tristian to be 100% Cleric, and he's good at that, and I feel Harrim could be more of a Fighter or work on another class. I thought about multiclassing him to Fighter which I did in my last playthrough, and it worked well as he got good BAB increases and became more of a damage-dealer, but I already have Amiri and Jaethal handing out excellent damage with Precise Strike + Outflank. Harrim can still heal with Channeling Energy plus he gets 2 Inquisitor spells, so I get an extra slot for Bless and an extra slot for Cure Light Wounds for party management. I dunno, I'm a bit torn on it but I think by leveling up the Mastadon long-term it could be an interesting build for him. At level 5 his BAB is +7 and he's using the Greatclub +2 for 6-15 damage, while still being able to heal a bit. Any thoughts on this somewhat strange combination?

What about poor Nok-Nok then? I gotta admit, I'm enjoying his dialogues and quests more than I thought I would.

Yeah but that was at the cost of:

sacrificing companion quest, and you may even potentially lose that companions because of that :(

I will start a new game as well but still keep the current one even if I may miss out on some contents because of bugs in chapter 4.

What is your idea of the further class progression, do you stick with huntsmaster? Because the pet only scales with Inquisitor levels, and the channeling heal only scales with Ceric.
On the other hand, spell levels should stack, at least for the domain that is shared between the two classes. (if implemented correctly)

And here's the main problem why your channeling will not scale with inquisitor levels:
the feat "channeling scourge" does not seem to be in the game. (Or at least, I do not see it anywhere.)
This pretty much destroys all cleric/inquisitor mixes that want to use channeling. :(
I hope it will be added later on.

I agree that Harrim is not the perfect cleric build. For instance, he can't have the "selective channeling" feat due to his low charisma, which really is a pity. An alternative may be to boost his charisma, but that takes quite a while. I guess, if Tristian does not turn out to be an alignment problem (my main problem with Valerie) then I'll simply keep Harrim as advisor only. Despite his whining, his advice seems to be sound so far. :)

On pets: I'm a bit partial on that topic. In theory, they are awesome. In practice, once they get large, positioning becomes a headache. I stopped using Eku because of that. His pet always got stuck somewhere. Sometimes just stuck between my party members. This is actually a problem of the real-time / continuous-space interpretation of the game. You can never quite say whether there is enough space to fit a large creature, because the bounds of obstactles are not really clear (or is there an option to show some form of underlying grid? If yes, that would be awesome).

EDIT: Of course, at least the leopard or the lizard only become medium size. Maybe less of a hassle.

Well, yes… on the other hand, an evil player may get significantly more funds. There's plenty of loot lost if you keep people alive. This may be enough to fund custom companions? And you get to keep Nok-Nok, so… ;)

It was a poor build, due to the pet being level 1 and thus would be 4 levels behind. I was thinking giving him a bit of Tower Shield Specialist to be more tank-ish. I already have Tristian as my main cleric and probably won't use Harrim much, but I dunno. Just seeing if there's another route for Harrim out there.

Maybe he's decent as a druid, although that kind of seems out of character for him. Blight druid?

PS: I am currently attempting the long game. Extra channels, Add charisma during level ups, get selective channel feat. At least I will have something to replace Tristian when he's unavailable.

Yeah, I may just go Cleric all the way with him. Everything else seems out of character like you said, even Inquisitor, since he could really care less about spreading Groetus's word in a violent way. So Cleric it is.

Edit - There is a feat called Boon Companion which raises the level of the companion pet to your natural level, and I can take it next time I get a feat at level up. So it seems Inquisitor will be the build I go for. :)

I'm neutral good but still have no problem keeping Nok-Nok :p

Imo, most of companion quests are seriously well written you should't miss out on it. Harrim's one is excellent too.

So @purpleblob;, you say Harrim's quest is worth doing? Sucks you have to choose between the options. I hope they add an option to be able to do both...

Well, I found it extremely interesting. Let's just say, it was more of a case Harrim abandoning Torag (God he previously worshipped) than the other way around

and Harrim may even possess gift of a God he despises :D

Well, it seems like Owlcat deliberately made it difficult for you to complete all companion quests. There are times when you need to choose one over the other… (as in, if you complete one personal quest, you may not succeed in other). Made me cry :( (But… I like them all!)

Personal quests I really liked:
Harrim - as above
Amiri - she is more than just typical "huuurrrr I'm barbarian!" (although now I can't progress any further since I failed one :()
Jubilost - his one is linked to the Pathfinder lore, very interesting
Tristian - I kinda saw this coming, but was still interesting. Related to his true identity
Nok Nok - HILARIOUS! I also feel bad for him :(

Personal quests I liked:
Ekundayo - heart warming but I suppose still a bit generic
Linzi - took some twist here and there which was interesting but nothing special I guess.

Personal quests I felt quite generic/meh or need to progress further:
Valerie - the "miracle" at the end just ruined it all.
Regongar - unless there's more to his story... it was meh.
Octavia - haven't progressed far enough.
Jaethal - need to see more, unsure how I feel yet.

Thanks for the info! Maybe I will pursue his quest this time around then. But dang, Branded Trolls are tough on Challenging! The game was kicking my butt last session. :D
