You can buy a "gamer" version direct from the Dev's website for 19.99, although it is lacking lots of the bells and whistles of the more expensive version available on Steam.

All the software on steam looks fun, but it's too expensive.

Agreed. Doesn't seem to offer much for that price, just painting with very big pixels. Might be nice for quick prototyping, but otherwise? Not good enough for that price. If the full version was around 20$, ok, perhaps.

$44? Yikes. It looks really cool, but most people will never need all those bells and whistles. Dungeonographer has a very robust free version.

That's about the same price as Campaign Cartographer. I guess if you're a long term DM and make a lot of maps, it may be worth the cost. Otherwise, I'm not sure what use it would be.
