PC Gamer reports that development on Cyberpunk 2077 is far from over.

The video showcases clips of gameplay from last year's big 48-minute walkthrough, and touches on a number of different topics including why the developers opted for first-person perspective, why the studio went silent for years after the first Cyberpunk 2077 tease, and--something I didn't know--that the game isn't just set nearly 60 years after the RPG that inspired it, but also takes place in a parallel timeline.

Well I call bull shit here as their storefront GOG is not doing well, and their last two games did not sell well. Don't forget they have investors to please also like EA.
CD Projekt Red’s latest game, Gwent has been a financial disappointment, according to two people who work for the studio. Last fall, the company pointed to GOG’s small reach as one of the reasons for the game’s lack of success, quickly releasing the Thronebreaker campaign on Steam after at first declaring that it would be a GOG exclusive.
Bottom line this game will more then likely release this year or sometime next year at the latest. We will most likely get a release date at E3 in June like Witcher III.

Clickbait article on PC Gamer. Probably their extreme mmos coverage wasn't clicked enough times.

Not sure - not sure. I'm not concern about the last two games not selling well. My guess is they were really low budget. Anyway it is what it is - most likely not 2019 and who knows about 2020.

This doesn’t surprise me as i predicted a 2020 or even 2021 release.

Given the scope of what thier trying to do 2019 always felt early to me. I’d rather they take thier time and release a polished game anyway.

The 2019 prediction was always optimistic. Still is. Nothing's changed really.

2020.

I hope you can turn off those waypoint HUD markers (and that quest design supports such). This is my first time seeing the gameplay and those things are so off-putting.

I certainly wasn't expecting to see this title available this year. I'll be amazed if it completes next year, my off the cuff guess would be 2021, if I'm being honest. I of course have no issue at all with that, get it fully done and tested, then release it in a near flawless state and reap the benefits.

2020 is just a great fit for this game. They'll drag their feet to make it release then. Or rush it, whatever necessary. ;)

But yes, the article is great detective work, based on some material from last year.
"We do not have a release date, so it may take longer". Longer than what?

I also predict 2020 or even 2021 depending on how smooth things go for them.
The dilemma could be shareholders breathing down their necks and thus releasing a less than polished or rushed game.

Yeah, but it is kind of a dumb move from the investors. Just from the fact that they did not shit on The Witcher 3 and released it in a rush, I'm guessing they will not do the same with their largest game ever. If the game is released in a buggy state, investors will lose a lot more money.

It's always the share holders they want a return on their investment.

Simply put if you promise huge expectations or only develop one game for 5+ years they will get angsty when goals, and dividends are not meet. It's a catch 22.

Just look at Blizzard mass layoffs, lower pay due to not releasing a new game in years.

I don't know CDPR's economic setup but just because there are shareholders doesn't mean the company has to really care much about them. If the CEO or upper management has a majority of the shares, they aren't going to care what the day trader view is.

You're playing a person with cyber implants but you don't even have capabilities found in a turn-of-the-century mobile phone!?

P.S. "Parallel Timeline" translates to "we couldn't quite get in line with the source material" to me. I don't know the source material that well so that's fine with me.

I prefer to play my games rather than be led around by a leash w/ quest markers, npc indicators, and other various contrivances. But if you like your HUD popups, that's fine - the option to shut them off would satisfy us both.

Better yet, NieR:Automata's solution! You've got X amount of CPU power and all those things take some of that up. If you've got HUD directions displayed, updated displays of who's offering jobs, a mini-map, and so on then you might not have enough CPU power left to run some other buffs.

(Unfortunately, the HUD display things were so cheap in N:A that there was rarely much reward for removing them.)
