The TV Series discussion thread

Really enjoyed the first episode of The Mimic.

Not really a fan of impressions (in sketch shows / panel shows etc), but as a character comedy about someone who messes around amusing himself with voices it worked really well. Also has the guy who played raisin boy in Utopia.

The Veronica Mars KS is now almost at 3.4 million, and they've enabled Canadians for rewards, which caused an instant positive spike in donations. Now, to get those Euro peeps brought in!!!

And they write this:
we are trying very hard to include additional territories. There are hoops to jump through. (It's not a shipping cost issue.) Please keep checking back, non-U.S., non-Canadian fans. Give us a few days. Know that we're trying to make it happen.
We all know that the movie industry is still in the stone age. Netflix is not available just anywhere, Amazon video doesn't work in all parts of the world and a global service that'd be for movies like for example Steam for games is impossible to make due to region locking DVD idiocy and ignoring the era of moving to digital distribution (less costs, more money).

If nothing, this Kickstarter project is raising questions. Even if they don't succeed to secure international distribution rights here, I bet next KS projects will function like a rolling snowball till the industry decades old decisions finally get dead and burried.

There is a slight problem though. This movie, when released will have no dubs and no subs (except maybe the transcript on english with written text and important sounds for hearing impaired audience). But who cares? Do we buy games only if dubbed/subbed on our language? Of course not.

We are deep into Bones, forensic anthropologist and her team of specialist geeks solve crimes and save the day. One of those series that's kinda cheesy and hokey and predictable, with the two lead characters almost kissing - but not quite, at the conclusion of each episode. But its fun, and the characters endeaderinng, so we keep going one more episode. On season 2ep5 now

We enjoyed the first few seasons as well ... but when you feel it has 'lost the thread, feel free to stop watching, it never gets it back ...

My younger son has totally gotten my wife into Doctor Who while I have had too much work travel (someone has to make this cool glass for phones and flexible watches ;) )

I'm also mad about Doctor Who and can't wait for next episodes (starts this weekend). There is a short teaser/trailer or so called prequel on bbc site:

And just to share a comic I've stumbled upon the other day:

I'm excited about this one too, just read in local TV guide news that it's starting next week on AXN:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2180271/

EDIT:
It's called Real Humans, airs on wednesdays and the first episode is "Break In, Break Free"

So Downton Abbey Season 2 was on sale at Target last weekend. I rarely buy DVDs for myself because I don't re-watch them. However, my local library's copies have a million holds on them such that I'll never see it, Blockbuster has closed, and stupid Netflix only has season 1. I bought it.

I just finished watching it (9 episodes). Not as good as season 1, but still it has an inexplicable hold on me. My birthday is coming up and I may have to ask for season 3. That will get me caught up until season 4 is on. Unfortunately I missed the free streams of season 3 on pbs.org :(

Has anyone watched the US version of Being Human? Starts tonight in the UK, wondering if it's worth a watch or whether the charm & humour of the UK original will have been missed completely. The trailers look a bit too high budget & actioney for the series to my mind.

It first aired here in France yesterday and I watched it (the first two episodes). All I can say is that I'm completely disappointed ! It seems to be a low budget series with a very slow paced story line (and mostly uninteresting, should I say !). I disliked almost everything in it ! The "subplots" are totally boring and the characters lack any sort of charisma. The direction, lighting, editing and musical score is weak at best. Won't be watching the upcoming episodes :(
But that's just my personal opinion about it… !

Watched the first episode a week ago, wasn't a bad one for a pilot so I gave a shot to the second ep too.
Cheesy at moments but utterly fun. Thriller, crime, sci-fi, noir, drama, romance, hell it has everything in it. Including humor!
I'm definetly excited about next episodes of Orphan Black.
More info at:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2234222/

Please do not open the spoiler before you watch the second episode.
Just as all of us who watched that episode, you want to find this:

Sounds interesting, wonder why we've not seen that in the UK if it's a BBC production . . .

Hmmm, will have to mention that to my younger son, he didn't really hook into the pilot but it might be worth giving a second chance

Benedict I'm pretty sure it's not airing on bbc uk yet so until it does (and they do air stuff from bbc america but later) you'll have to pay for some online streaming service available at your location. Means trying to find it on iTunes, vudu, googleplay or elsewhere.

And because of stone age video material distribution idiocy it's still not available everywhere… *grumble*
I sure hope they'll sort it out eventually and allow others to add some more through paypal.

Roughly 12 hours left in the Veronica Mars Kickstarter. If you haven't kicked in, do it now and be part of history!. You can do as little as 1 buck or....much much more, lol.

I watched the first episode of Defiance today.

Meh... the FX are decent, but I thought most of the characters are pretty cliche, and the acting is average at best. I also think the background story is ridiculous even by sci-fi standards. I didn't even bother to watch the second episode even though it was showing immediately after.

Watched 3 episodes of Hannibal.

Bah, not very good.

Mads Mikkelsen is a very poor choice - because he's struggling to pronounce the words correctly. He's a fantastic actor when speaking danish - but it's very obvious that the language part is a big obstacle.

Hannibal is supposed to be really sophisticated and charming - and Mikkelsen comes off as stone-cold and completely void of a personality.

Graham is WAY overdone in terms of being a tortured soul. He reminds me of a typical Bioware character - where they're desperately cramming the main personality trait down your throat in case you missed it after mentioning it a thousand times over.

The rest of the show is somewhat interesting - but then again, the subject matter is interesting no matter what you do with it. The problem, for me, is that they're going for shock value and only superficially deal with the psychological aspects of the main characters and the killers.

It's just not very good overall.

For something dealing with similar issues, I think Dexter is far superior - even if it's very much entertainment before a serious treatment of serial killers.

Watched both, have a feeling this show is shtako. ;)
I'll give a chance to a few more episodes though.
