Since both me and my fiancee are total pc/gamer geeks, we decided to make our first tree a tribute to our computer obsession.

We sacrificed an old Nvidia 4600 card, a linksys card, old ram sticks, and several old pentium processors and other various pc parts for decorations. The crowning jewel being a multicolored, 120mm fan on top for the star. I spliced it together w/ a 12 volt dc converter and plugged it in the wall, seems to work pretty good!

It was really quite fun putting together! I used a dremel to cut up the various parts, there's a lot more general circuitry pieces that i cut out of motherboards n stuff as well. Got some cheap ornaments and put chips and stuff as the centerpieces, interspersed w/ regular red and silver bulbs id have to say that it worked out pretty good ='.'=

Pretty cool Sammy. I'm kind of envious actually, I wish my girlfriend was as much into pc\gaming as your fiancee is.

Extremely festive in a completely nerdy way--especially liked the nvidia snowflake. I'm just grateful my spouse doesn't want to make ornaments out of old shell casings or something.

The fan is really cool, espcially since you got it running. Any problems with it falling off because of the vibrations?

I would use noctua for fan. Its more silent and with better airflow. They used wind tunnel to design it and it comes in nice brown tree trunk matching colors. A true austrian gift for fans (of fans).

Very nice indeed. The only thing missing is a ribbon ... a rather long ribbon that says:

OK, I'm impressed! Your tree is a work of art, Sammy! You really should alert the media, because it's newsworthy.

My wife, who is quite artistic, made comments like, "It's beautiful!...very nice!...very creative!...I like that!"

thanks for all the compliments!

No, we're not having any vibration problems w/ the fan, it really worked out well. It's mounted on a piece of bent-to-90deg 1/4" threaded rod, into the top of the tree post (it's artificial of course), fastened at the top & bottom w/ a nut & rubber grommet between the fan and rod. The fan blade itself does give off a very slight hum, but that's really not a problem, in fact it's strangely soothing.

Been batting around some ideas for geek garland for next year, thinking maybe something w/ cables & rj45 connectors or something of that nature.

Merry Christmas everyone ='.'=
