... who would have guessed it? Anyway, doing research on the piracy rates of adult entertainment stuff (yes, that joke is on me - I know it sounds like a damn cheap excuse to watch porn!!!) I came across this lovely graphic which I'd like to share with you:

pornwebpages.jpg

You can find even more statistics on http://www.familysafemedia.com/pornography_statistics.html.

It's a nice summary and the statistics seem about right, I checked several other websites and they show about the same figures with slight variations.

Personal remark: Woooohoooo! Germany scored second!

Like someone said in another thread, in the US entertainment is a business, in Europe it's an artform. This means that the amount of commercially produced entertainment in the united states is huge compared to Europe. And yes, I consider pornography to be part of the entertainment industry.

In a capitalist country you can make yourself a living out of everything someone else wants. If someone wants someone to talk to, you can sell that to them and bill them per minute. Every bit of humanity becomes a product to be purchased or sold.

Germany scored second -> Must have something to do with the FIA (Max Mosley)

He is German ? Didn't know that.

All in all, this is in pronciple a sign for the impact of the genes on us - which "want to be spread", so to say.
Someone had once writtren a book called "the egoistic gene" or so. I think the title (recalled from my memory) hits it all.

"FIA President Max Mosley has been caught on film taking part in a Nazi fetish orgy, a British tabloid revealed earlier today. Although we initially thought it was the world's zaniest April Fool's joke, we were wrong. Sick and wrong. During the five-hour orgy video, which the tabloid also has in possession (and which we have a quick clip from up top) Mosley both dominated and submitted to the five hookers, who dressed both as Nazis and concentration camp prisoners. The 67-year-old, who has been married for 48 years, was at one point whipped so hard that the orgy had to be halted while a bandage was applied to stop his bleeding."

Formula 1 boss in a video with five hookers and Nazi outfits? Bound to create a few hits. :)

I knew that. But where is the connection to Germany? Mosley is from England.

Technically speaking, your pie chart doesn't show the porn percentage in over all web traffic. It only shows US dominating the online porn business.

Don't know how this fits in with your pie chart, ISS, but it's sufficiently weird:
Wisconsin Law Bans Sex with Dead Bodies
Wisconsin law bans sex with dead bodies, the state Supreme Court ruled Wednesday in reinstating charges against three men accused of digging up a corpse so one of them could have sex with it.

The court waded into the grisly case after lower court judges ruled nothing in state law banned necrophilia. Those decisions prompted public outrage and a push by a state lawmaker to make sex with a corpse a crime.

In Wednesday's 5-2 decision, the high court said Wisconsin law makes sex acts with dead people illegal because they are unable to give consent.
Ya think?

He liked the outfit that was more common back in 1930 till 1945 in Germany. The term Nazi is still connected to Germany, Gorath. Not because of what happens today, but because of history. I don't see you as one as do many other without doubt, but when you say Nazi you're bound to think of Germany during that awfull period.

Mimimimimi... you're still number one. Just kidding, mate. Take it easy - this is a fun thread. I don't think that Americans consume more porn than other countries or anything like that. I picked the graphic because I found it ironic that a country, which in the eyes of many Europeans is just plain prude, is also the number 1 supplier of porn on the internet... by far. Im sure if we had a look at the web traffic concerning pronographic content it would turn out that while the US is supplying the whole porn it is watched exclusively by Europeans.

I'm totally against such a ban for several reasons. First of all: For many people this will be the only kind of sex they'll ever have (this goes for the living as well as for the dead) and second: Depending on your partner and her willingness to show emotions during sex it's sometimes hard to say if she's still alive or already dead... well I had such a girl friend once, anyway...

I didn't know that he actually liked ? this "outfit".

To me, he's just heavily mentally disturbed to do what he did, but that's just my personal opinion.

Personally, I'd quit as soon as I'd have to work with him.

The only reason I could imagine him linking this "outfit" is that this "outfit" represents power, most of all.

And if he is a power-hungry person, then he'll pursue everything that gives him power, no matter how weird.

Porn industry is huge. Everyone wants to become part of the business. It's directly or indirectly backed by American corporations such as hotel chain, satellite broadcaster, communication providers (AT&T).

The spread personal telecommunication devices (iPhone, etc), and the access of broadband will only push the business further.

There was a funny news related to our discussion:

NEW YORK, July 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- An unforeseen and surprising beneficiary of the Economic Stimulus Plan, a plan that George Bush contends will "boost our economy and encourage job creation," has surfaced this week. An independent market-research firm, AIMRCo (Adult Internet Market Research Company), has discovered that many websites focused on adult or erotic material have experienced an upswing in sales in the recent weeks since checks have appeared in millions of Americans' mailboxes across the country.

According to Kirk Mishkin, Head Research Consultant for AIMRCo, "Many of the sites we surveyed have reported 20-30% growth in membership rates since mid-May when the checks were first sent out, and typically the summer is a slow period for this market."

Hey--I've had some experiences with the male equivalent of that, too (see second marriage) and I know what you're talking about. :p

On my quote it was that "because they are unable to give consent" thing that whacked me out--I would think it would also imply "unable to give a #$@!" as well--I'd be just a tad bit more concerned about the *living* partner in the deal being just a mite sociopathic.
