There is (or was, not keeping up on it) a tax credit for buying ULEV or EVs. I don't remember what it was off hand, but I think it'd put the base price down below 30k just about.
Not much here in Canada, but I believe there's a instant tax credit of $7500 in the US. So for those that get in early, it's a $28,000 car. Since many will be financing, it's even cheaper than that, because monthly cost of ownership is much lower (no fluids to change, no transmission, no fuel, very few moving parts). A new way of looking at car cost, like buying LED bulbs for your home.
EDIT: In Canada it varies from province to province.
Trust me the car is in demand. I had a long crappy day today because some of the custom tooling need to make parts for it are a week late. The company I am supplying these tools to are under all sorts of pressure to start shipping making them...
45000-50000e in Finland. I guess I will stick to my electric bicycle and my puretech peugeot which runs with very little gas, it has some fuel consumption records for it too. Electric cards or bicycles even are not that great on winter anyways. And the charging grid is severly lacking here.
