Hopefully, the Watchers living in Florida all moved out by now. The entire state is going to get smashed even if Irma decide to go make a trip into the Mexico Golf and grow bigger (aka Do a Katrina) instead of the current plan of climbing the state.

As for your other questions in the other thread. Irma is the record holder of staying the longest at its top cat 5 speed beating the previous record by about ~15 hours (stayed at that speed for 33-37 hours). It's the most energy developed over the Atlantic on record too. It's not the biggest in size though, but pray that there is never a Typhoon Tip in the Atlantic.

The other hurricane the Florida gov is talking about is Andrew who was was less than half the size of Irma and only brushed the southern part of the state yet was very devastating. Irma is planed to climb up the entire state and stay at a major hurricane (Cat 3+) all through it.

What's worse is that there's a second hurricane (Jose) also currently in the Atlantic, and it's travelling a similar path behind Irma. It was just upgraded to a category 4.

Areas that were already devastated by Irma might get hit again just days later.

St Maarten, used to be Dutch (still is in some way) and is hit hard by the hurricane. I personally know nobody there though. (Side note: the island is divided in a French and Dutch part, both are hit hard).
The Dutch navy has started patrolling the streets as there are many looters around. They also assist in making sure the harbor and airport are accessible again, so goods can be delivered. From seeing the footage, there is almost nothing standing anymore and what is standing is for a large part inhabitable. It is a disaster for the island. People in The Netherlands have started raising goods (clothes, tents, etc.) and have arranged for shipping them to the island. Next to that the regular NGOs, like the Red Cross are also providing aid.
The hurricane Jose will hit them around 18:00 local time, hopefully it stays at some distance from the island as there is nothing left to hide from that hurricane anymore.

This is crazy…sounds more like a plot from Hollywood blockbuster.

At the risk of creating an argument, many of the climate change models have predicted larger hurricanes/cyclones/typhoons etc. basically because hotter means more energy which means bigger storms. Our bureau of meteorology issues seasonal warnings in early October and prior years have commented on higher ocean temperatures and increased cyclone risks.

St Maarten/St Martin is in ruins? Its a popular destination for home buyers on the show Caribbean Life.

Anyone affected by the 8.1 earthquake in Mexico? There were reports of after shocks and possible tidal waves.

Or the forest fires in the Pacific Northwest? In BC I hear they have them under control now but its hitting Portland hard.

In California we had some 80 miles out of Sacramento which basically made it overcast where I'm at. That appears to be under control but it was man made. In LA they appear to be having problems in the mountains.

NPR has a pretty good analysis here, complete with weather maps showing that the western Atlantic is warmer than usual, despite that absence of El Nino and La Nina weather cycles. That heat is apparently increasing the strength of these storms.

It's been downgraded to a category 3 now. There's still a chance it could go back up to a 4 as it crosses over the water between Cuba and Florida. Let's hope it doesn't. A category 3 is still dangerous.
