Warhammer 40,000 Sanctus Reach

Because it has lots of killing and gore. My favorite features are the flamethrower, hero and large vehicle units. I wish we had a ship-to-ship broadside warfare turn-based Warhammer game with battles like Master of Orion. But on a 2D plane and ships are smashing & shooting each other, A'la Rebel Galaxy.
Sanctus Reach:
Fighting with the UI is endurable: for example I can't scroll a map if a unit is selected in order to plan, where I want to move it. This would be intuitive. Instead I have to unselect a unit and scroll the map. Almost like XCOM, since leveled up units remain with me.
Playing it on hardest difficulty with all available units put on the map, just to see, what mayhem ensues. Unit graphics is surprisingly well done. Camera movement is trash: it should zoom onto moving enemy and show them firing plus my targeted units hit. But the action is frequently playing Out Of View.
Enlarged the fonts, so I can see text better.
I'm pondering frequently, why no new XCOM-style game came around, which is declared completed. Unlike hopeful Wasteland 3, which is still being improved..

Martian Gothic: Unification

An old survival-horror game from around 2000. I recently saw it mentioned in another forum and decided to give it a try.

It's clunky as hell. It has the old tank-style controls like the classic Resident Evil games, but it seems even more awkward than those imo. It has a good sci-fi horror atmosphere though, and the story so far is interesting enough to make me want to keep playing.

Forza horizon 4.

Using it as a kind of break in gaming. A couple of 5 min races each night.

I might have said it before, but I wonder what a rpg version would look like taking the gameplay of non rpg games. Introduce stats, levels, characters, dialogue (and story). Another example would be a wing commander game with a good campaign. Yes, I think these have the potential to be good rpgs. Something different than the typical fantasy stuff (a vehicle/fighter would be your avatar).

I'm liking the overall story in the game I'm currently playing, Heroines of Swords and Spells, but leveling up seems to be a challenge. The opposition is limited, there only appear to be placed fights and no random ones, so for an rpg maker game it is a bit odd in that way. Just getting to level two felt like a huge accomplishment! Right now I've found my way out of the first town and hoping to find some worthy battles outside in the open world areas.

Sanctus Reach:
The later - 4th - missions are new! Escort mission! Yaay. Large map with an invading orc horde and I must escort APC-s to the other end. I always put all units listed on the roster onto the map to see, what happens on hardest difficulty. Curiously this max number of combatants doesn't make the battle slow and it remains quite manageable.
UI:
I discovered that when I unselect the next unit and reselect it, I can scroll the map while a unit remains selected.. Zoomed in on the new, more powerful units and saw they are very well done! So full respect goes to Straylight Entertainment, who probably did the 3D models. They are amazing. This respect & admiration is very important for me to enjoy any game.

Sanctus Reach is highly recommended! While the engine appears unoptimized, still its an amazing game. I'll do a long, special Battlescape Mix: To replace the overly repeating game MP3 soundtrack, I fetched soundtracks from:
1. Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn Of War II (The Complete Soundtrack) Doyle W. Donehoo
2. Warhammer 40,000- Space Marine Original Soundtrack - 2011 - Cris Velasco, Sascha Dikiciyan
3. Anything from amazing Doyle W. Donehoo = Space Hulk Deathwing, since he is a true, creative composer!

@mercy

I purchased that game in some sale as a package, never gotten around to installing. Thanks for the mini review.

How about all games have a single huge lootbox you pay for up front that contains all the options, items, skins, unlocks etc? I'd pay for that!!

One of the tough problems I'd encountered in Heroines of Sword and Spell was simply healing/resting. The healer in my group seems incapable of real healing, as her spell only heals one hit point per cast, and the cost is thirty mana per, so, yeah not a great ratio. I found a home I can rest in for free, so that's redefined my exploration abilities, so that's my plan for the next day or so.

This is amazing! 32-unit imperial army on the turn-based tactical battlefield! WAAAARRHGG!!
I enhanced the soundtrack by copy-pasting at least 4 or 5 additional Space Marine + W40K_DOWII game tracks into each Sanctus Reach music file - Battle0..Battle7.mp3. Originally they were about 3-5MBs each. Now they became 21-35MB each and I saved all as highest quality VBR.
Hah! With increased size fonts now the game has become thoroughly playable! It just needed a lil' fixing!
Oh, and of course always the maximum number of units in battle as offered on the roster.

Did the same with X-Piratez and The XCOM-Files, so instead of the usual ~8 comandos a full mob of ~44 idiots was standing not only inside my troop carriers, but ON their ROOF as well. I love massive mayhem games.

. . . . . . .
. . . . . . .
. . . . . . .

Holy mackerels! After defeating the rather large main orc army, another one appeared, because of hardest difficulty! They streamed in from the south-east and north west. Both mob was cornered and massacred at the spot. This was an unprecedented opportunity to gain levels and about of my 11 units leveled up.
Corpses littered the battlefield. Good to see a game that doesn't make all corpses disappear. I wanted total chaos and I got it. What an excellent game! I don't remember even Dark Omen being so bloody, probably because the tech limitations then. Now finally a turn-based large scale game arrived, which is able to show a field of glorious corpses!

You remain in full tactical control at all points of this mega-massacre:

Been playing a looter/action rpg called Dungeons of Edera. It is rogue-like in that there is only one save. Of course, I back up the one save several times if I want to back track for any reason. The gist of the game is that you play a handful of maps several times as you fight various monsters that are trying to encroach on your lands. These monsters are being sent by a rival kingdom.

This game is surprisingly fun for such a simple concept. As you defeat the enemies, the townfolk start to rebuild the town around you. Often you will clear a pass or something so that traders can get through, or wood can be gathered to build fortifications, etc. Each time you come back there is a good chance that one or more things have changed. Not sure what will happen if I fail several missions in a row. It would be cool if the monsters sacked a few areas if I screw up. Dunno if they do.

Combat can be melee, bows, and I think spells are getting ready to be more prevalent too as I'm freeing up more areas trainers are starting to show up in camp with new skills to teach me.

Not bad at all. I'm mostly an archer at the moment as I wait for a spell trainer. I've got one spell, but the bow kills quicker. I also have a mercenary I hired to keep the baddies off me and he does his job pretty well. He'll scream and charge if he sees an enemy and grabs aggro.

I've only played about 6 hours, just got it tonight, but it seems worth the $15.

I'm still chugging along in Heroines of Sword and Spell, I might be getting near the end of the game, as I've only three or four quests left to do. Once I got over my initial confusion of how this game presented itself, it's been a really fun trip since. I'll have a more thorough write-up once I've actually finished.

I'm thoroughly obsessed with Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Been playing it on PS4, about 40'ish hours.

Origins was my first AC game, and while that is good, in some ways Odyssey really improves on some of the core gameplay elements such as combat. The "dungeons" are also far more expansive than Origins. I kept finding it so annoying in Origins, when I'd get sent to an area such as a "necropolis" (sounds big, right?) and it's 2 rooms. The tombs and such in Odyssey are way bigger, with more exploration elements. Dare I say Tomb-raider'ish feeling at times.

As the perpetual war rages between Athens and Sparta, you are smack dab in the middle of it all, and can take part in massive battles to sway the control of regions either way. I really like the massive chaotic battles.

Mercenaries are a thing now, and they'll track you if you get a bounty - it's a cool element in the game, and you can have some pretty nasty mercs
(and their animal pets) hunting you, and you can hunt them as welll. Defeating these mercs can yield nice gear. Great addition to the game, gives consequences for just going all out berserker, you really need to consider the gravity of going in guns blazing, or stealthily in fort raids and other sections of the game.

Ship combat? Not so much, unfortunately it's an unavoidable part of the game. I have no desire whatsoever to take part in the ship elements of the game, and it looks like I'll have to dump precious resources into ship upgrades if I want to survive certain sections of the game. Hopefully not, still running w/ the stock ship and crew, and just outrunning alll aggressors.

I'm just loving exploring the ancient Greek world in general - Oracle at Delphi, Statue of Athena, Parthenon, all these things are awesomely envisioned and rendered. The historical figures leave a lot to be desired, if you know anything about Greek history, figures such as Demosthenes are not portrayed accurately - like at all. But whatever, unbelievable game.

I always play female characters when given the choice, and is indeed a choice in this game. My character looks badass decked out in her Spartan helmet and gear, and for roleplaying reasons, I've kept her father's helm and sword - it's great because I can simply upgrade via the blacksmith instead of replacing gear.
It is kind of a bummer that the PC police have done what they can to omit the breasts from armor, so it can really make a difference what chest armor I use - there are a couple midriff-baring and cloth styles that can enhance the appearance of breasts, instead of the flat plate that just makes her look like a teen boy. Is what it is, I guess.

Nice! this makes me want to fire up this game again.
I put about 70'ish hours into it, before i moved on to something else. Didnt do any of the add-ons.

It really is an excellent title, and a good way to get a 40k fix without resorting to the soul-draining tabletop hobby

Sanctus Reach:
1. Improved aesthetics. These Accessibility fonts look fantastically readable. Same what I introduced to the developer of Urtuk!

Installation:
Font.txt goes to:
….\Warhammer 40,000 Sanctus Reach\System\font.txt
TTF font files go to:
…..\Warhammer 40,000 Sanctus Reach\Core\
Overwrite the vanilla fonts with these:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/fe6dke…/Core.zip/file

2. Improved soundtrack:
Added Deathwing, DOW-II, Space Marine soundtracks, so the eight original 3-4MB Sanctus MP3 files were enlarged to eight 47-64MB MP3-s. This makes the game an EPIC experience. Raises the mood quality to Fallout 1-2 & Tactics level.

So picked up a free demo of a game called The Curse of Feldar Vale. Now the "demo" is exactly one fight with 3 mobs and then as soon as you open the only door on the map; it ends. The whole thing lasted like two minutes if you take the pre-rolled party. You might get 10 minutes out of it if you roll your own party.

I wonder if this is Ellis Studios yet again. There was a 2nd game by this company and the reviews claimed it only had 20% of the promised features. The map in the 2nd demo looks just like the map in the old game.

Buyer Beware!

Yesterday I fired up Might is Right, and lost myself in a fun, exciting world for a few hours. The game plays like a Heroes of Might and Magic type, or King's Bounty. You select a hero and a companion to start, and march around a map exploring, finding treasures and defeating the opposition. There are several types to pick from for your stalwart hero, I took a knight-type and made my way out into the world.

The exploration factor is strong in this offering! You can easily inspect the opposition before you engage, giving you an idea of how difficult the battle might be. There can still be some surprises, though, and that just enhances the world. I'm not sure if I'll get to play much today or tomorrow, but I'm quite enjoying of what I've seen of this game so far.

I'm about 100hrs into my first real run at Pathfinder: Kingmaker, playing a human aldori defender/thief build. I'd previously given up playthroughs when the kingdom managment stuff kicked in, but this time I've persevered and I'm enjoying it. I have no idea how close I am to the end though, it just keeps going - this game is massive.

Had to give up on Martian Gothic: Unification. The frustration was starting to outweigh any enjoyment I was having. Despite being survival-horror, the gameplay is mostly just a series of puzzles, and they're not very good for the most part. That, and the horrible controls, has me throwing in the towel on this one.

Going to look for something else with a sci-fi setting and better action.

pillars of eternity 2

Somehow i find it very boring so far, not much into it, just about 5h; i finished both torment games before this one, so the writing in this one seems really simple and not all interesting, plus its got that bullshit pirate accent, bleah. Also no matter what i did, still have some micro freezes and runs like ass, from what i googled many still have these problems. So far its far below the first game.

I'm playing Bravely Default 2 (Switch).

To the uninitiated: this game (allegedly named by Japanese designers on acid) is an atypical tun-based JRPG, with absolutely gorgeous graphics and a few very interesting game mechanics:
- a very unique risk and reward system (be "default" on your guard and rack up action points to extend your turn , or be "brave" and sacrifice turns for reckless multi-hits and be sitting duck for a few turns.)
- the dynamic "job" system, which is called "class change" for us D&D lovers. Each character can switch classes on the fly and each class can be leveled up individually -- the dilemma is to specialize (and build a well-balanced team) or generalize (and be prepared for anything)
- the (mostly) fair difficulty, where actual tactics DO matter a lot.

The humble Switch is the de-facto platform of quality JRPGs nowadays, so I'm more than happy to add this game to the already strong lineup.

Zombie Army 4: Dead War

It's the sequel to Zombie Army Trilogy. I'm only on the 3rd mission, but it's good fun so far. It's everything the prequels were but bigger and shinier.
