Gaming BS of the week

Of the year. No, of the decade.
Hell no. This is the biggest bs ever in gaming industry.
#1 bs of all time.

The way ESRB works:

It's not 1st of april and this seems not to be a joke. Game rating is not based on the actual game. It's based on a fart that might not be in the game at all.

No link on media today because every site and their mother reports Ubisoft's logic under p2w microtransactions in their brand new game and why are some temporarily disabled after the public outrage (temporarily as will return in the game).
The game's title is Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Yes I've never heard about it before either.

Here's the link to Ubisoft's divine logic by saint UbiBorghal on the official game forum:
https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthread.php/2136707-Studio-Update-In-Game-Purchasable-Content

Of course there are some people who bought this scam and even more who didn't but will defend this bs.

EDIT:
Well excuse me, there will be some people who won't buy the game but will receive it for free thanks to Samsung backing the afterrun scamware:
https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/new-samsung-ssd-promotion-unlock-exclusive-in-game-content.html
The latest promotion from Samsung SSD allows customers to claim a free download of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint PC Standard Edition as well as unlocking an exclusive Samsung SSD shirt and emblem in the game.

So many games, so little time.
And so many more bs.

Bully 2 "never got off the ground", says Rockstar source
Rockstar New England spent over a year working on the secret sequel.

As you might well expect, Rockstar declined to comment on this story, but with a number of Bully 2 - AKA Canis Canem Edit - easter eggs popping up in other Rockstar games, most recently GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2, we reckon there's certainly something afoot again. Watch this space, eh?
It has no mmo potential = scrappit.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...reating-the-very-very-addictive-game-fortnite
A Canadian legal firm is preparing a class-action lawsuit against Epic Games, accusing the developer of "knowingly" creating the "very, very addictive game", Fortnite.
"Epic Games, when they created Fortnite, for years and years, hired psychologists - they really dug into the human brain and they really made the effort to make it as addictive as possible,"

The legal notice - which was filed on behalf of the parents of two minors, aged 10 and 15 - also draws on the recent decision of the World Health Organisation to list gaming disorder as a disease.
"In our case, the two parents that came forward and told [us], 'If we knew it was so addictive it would ruin our child's life, we would never have let them start playing Fortnite or we would have monitored it a lot more closely'
Hopefully the canadian court will incarcerate the parents who forced their children not to be dirty (aka not to be children but Nintendo drones).

I guess everyone knows about whatnot mmo tournament ban(s) and all of it is plain bs - from all possible perspectives. Whatever mmo needed some buzz I guess.

What amazes me is the "post mortem" bs.

First, PC Gamer, who else:
https://www.pcgamer.com/blizzards-d...roof-that-china-is-too-lucrative-to-piss-off/
Blizzard's dramatic Hearthstone ban is the latest proof that China is too lucrative to piss off
The ban has nothing with China being China, it was China before and will remain to be China and the focus on potential pissing off a country is misplaced.
The focus needs to be on morality of companies. Said elsewhere, today's companies behave as psychopaths. This needs to change.

Of course a buzz about irrelevant mmo created with politicking bullshittery needs a knight in a shining armor to save the day, and as expected, Epic Games wants to profit from it:
https://www.vg247.com/2019/10/10/ep...tnite-players-for-voicing-political-opinions/
Epic Games won’t ban Fortnite players or creators for voicing political opinions
I'm not sure what's worse.
Videogames are supposed to be played. Not trolled the internet with.

-------------------------------------------------------------

If you live in Venezuela and use Adobe products, then you have a problem now.
Adobe is deleting all accounts of people from Venezuala.
https://helpx.adobe.com/la/x-productkb/policy-pricing/executive-order-venezuela.html
That is not gaming industry bs, but bs it is.
What happens next because of that decision? Piracy.
Every single company yells they want piracy on knees, and then make such decisions where blossoming of piracy in a country is imminent.
Also, depending on where you live and if you're Adobe suite subscriber, maybe it's best to start searching for alternatives as obviously you never know if the same ban will happen there too.

That wasn't really the idea, but as I add most of it, and because players don't earn $ with their bs, it kinda doesn't interest me. Players' bs.
Now bs from nonplayers called streamers, who do pay bills by their streaming bs-ery are another story. Ability to sell bs so effectively I find fascinating.

In other words, my additions to the thread are (mostly) not about sheep but about shepherd(s). If it wasn't so, I'd question so many things. For example urges to make nude mods for every single game instead of overspamming developers to replace barbie dolls with naked bodies as a standard and an option to enable/disable nudity in a game.

Focus Interactive refuses to give rights back : http://frogwares.com/official-state...s-from-storefronts-by-focus-home-interactive/

Why? Because Focus Home Interactive, the licensee (or “publisher”) that was in charge of commercializing these games on these platforms, refuses to transfer the title IDs to us, the creators and IP owners of those titles, even though our Publishing and Distribution Agreement has expired.

Because, according to their official statement, sent to us only last week, “Focus has put in place a policy in accordance with which they will not transfer any title – the content ID or title ID – belonging to any developer which has removed all of their games from the Focus catalog”.

We worked with many licensees on the grounds of mutual interests and benefits, but it’s the first time in 20 years we have encountered such a situation. We are losing all revenue attached to these games, for some – for an unknown period of time and for other games, forever. This new policy from Focus Home towards former contracted developers will land a serious blow to our studio, threatening our future games and the people who develop them.

https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2019...orced-to-change-name-because-of-user-reports/

So, a WoW Guilds' name was automatically changed after user complaints.
What's the bullshit here: plenty.

1. The name change is nonsense, as the original name was not offensive in any way.
2. Automatic changes due to user complaints are a really bad idea. So if you want to blame Blizzard, blame them for that and for being cheap in terms of moderator force.
3. The report itself. Why not mention early on that the change was automatic? Instead of linking it to the (very intentional and not automatic) Hong-Kong-Protest reaction of Blizzard. Someone's trying to ride the anti-Blizzard sentiment here.

https://wccftech.com/cd-projekt-red...-to-get-better-at-finishing-the-story-sooner/
Speaking with Gamespot at PAX Australia, John Mamais, who's been with CD Projekt RED for almost nine years now, pointed out that iteration on the story in CDPR games takes a long time and that should improve in the future.

Something that we need to do better, from my perspective, is finish story sooner. Story is so important to the process for the games we make. We iterate on it quite a long time. Since everything else revolves around the narrative, the sooner it's brushed up the better it is for the development of a game. It's a catch-22, you don't know [how good the story is] until you get it in the game and start playing quests and see how it feels. If something doesn't feel right, you have to change it again. So it's kind of a tug of war. The more you can get done up front, conceptually, and locked in, the better off you are.
Basically a dev wants to hollywoodize/hongkongize the company that proved videogames don't have to be cringefests.
Just don't please. If pisspoor scripts and stories are your thing, say goodbye to CDpr and move to Hollywood.

Per leak, EA is releasing University DLC for Sims 4 soon:
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/...xpansion-pack-rumours-for-the-sims-4-are-true

Traditionally, although singleplayer only, Sims games were kept alive through years thanks to beefy expansions that added tons of new content on the base game.
The problem is EA is simply recycling old stuff and charging too much for it while some of the base concepts from previous Sims games never appeared in the 4th series (openworld, cars, etc). Sure, Sims 4 makes them enormous amount of $, but everyone and their mother don't want rebooted expansions but Sims 5 instead.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Another leak that stinks. I dare to call it an artificial. Deliberate.
https://www.vg247.com/2019/10/21/diablo-4-possible-reveal/
Diablo 4 might have been revealed by a German ad for an upcoming artbook

The ad, published in the latest copy of German magazine GameStar, apparently features the following text (in German):
Featuring over 500 artworks from Diablo, Diablo II, Diablo III and Diablo IV
After furious fans of different Blizzard titles and recent whatever card game tournament fuss over politics, after Riot announced all sorts of games that will compete with Blizzard's titles on PC, no wonder there has to be some damage control.

First minute and a half. Please watch. It's a certain game review but it's actually the current state of the videogame industry.

I know some will call the intro of that video bs. But the real bs is not that intro.

https://www.pcgamesn.com/assassins-creed-odyssey/radio-towers
Former Assassin’s Creed director apologises for radio towers

One of the hallmarks of the Assassin’s Creed series is unlocking the world map by climbing towers. Going back to the earliest entries, seeing the entire game has involved traversing a set of waypoints, and the feature was so effective many other series, including Far Cry and The Legend of Zelda, have adopted it.
Patrice Désilets, director of the first two Assassin’s Creeds, was asked at EGLX in Toronto (thanks, Destructoid) if he feels a bit lumbered by being known as the “Assassin’s Creed guy”, and responded by saying sorry for the incidental influence. “A little bit! If you’re going to spend years on something I hope that happens,” He answered. “Breath of the Wild, wow! That was a game where you could do anything, once you finished the first half hour or so. Now, you’re going to just climb towers and unfog the rest of the map. Sorry – it’s my fault!”
The idea worked for me where it felt a part of the game (environment puzzle in AC games), but I did hate it when it was slammed just to pose as ilogical filler (Watch Dogs 1). Why is the initial idea maker apologizing now can't say, but abusing that idea where it doesn't belong was not his fault IMO.
It's like hearing a developer apologizing for making random loot from crates in old games. Not their fault CEO Morgan from Alpha Centauri videogame turned it into scamware later.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember the UK government based comittee or something spilling bs that lootboxes aren't gambling? Dunno if someone yelled "that's bs" too loud, but the story took another turn:
https://www.vg247.com/2019/10/22/uk-loot-box-gambling/
Loot boxes must be classified as gambling, a UK commissioner’s new report insists.

In a report titled Gaming The System (due to be published today), Children’s Commissioner for England Anne Longfield calls for authorities to include loot boxes in gambling legislation. Additionally, she also urges games introduce daily spending limits to curb spending sprees.
“Children have told us they worry they are gambling when they buy loot boxes, and it’s clear some children are spending hundreds of pounds chasing their losses,” said Longfield. “I want the government to classify loot boxes in games like Fifa as a form of gambling.”

Why are Hollywood screenwriters so bad at writing video games?
Past couple of decades they couldn't make a proper script for movies either, hiring them in videogames industry is plain bs.

Action-RPGs ? They have almost no story but still drive in massive revenues …

This is confusing. It isn't even clear to me who is at fault…. or being unreasonable…

Depends on the law.
In some countries, rights are handled differently.

Cyberpunk 2077 could sell 20 million in the launch year, according to analyst
Of all the clickbait titles this is one of the worst. Could.
The sky is blue. It could be blue in the next year too.

https://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia/hbr-top-ceo-rank-jen-hsun-huang
The Harvard Business Review has rated Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang as the best-performing CEO in the world.
Okay this isn't bs by itself, nVidia was always strong and thanks to CPU war between AMD and Intel plus the high interest in so called AI (which is IMO not AI but a more efficient data processing) it was a bit easy to get the top spot. However:
Other notable gaming and tech CEOs that made the list include Richard Templeton of Texas Instruments, whose company recently fell short of Wall Street expectation; Shantanu Narayen of Adobe; Satya Nadella of Microsoft; Peter Wennink of ASML; Tim Cook of Apple; Bobby Kotick of Activision Blizzard; and Yves Guillemot of Ubisoft.
For god's sakes. The name that's synonym to scam is one of best performing CEOs? Per what criteria? Turning people into sheep? Tax evasion? Milking schemes no other gaming company does?

Don't get me started. Well you just did. ;)

There's lots of good and interesting stuff going on, with some valid scientific and technological impact. But heaven forbid, don't call it something boring like "statistics". Nah, it has to sound shiny and cool, like "data science" or "artificial intelligence".

I'm quite sick of all these buzzwords that are flying around, recirculating the same old concepts with extremely vague definitions. And yet you need to keep using them to "sell".

Deep Learning

AI

Industry 4.0

Big Data

Cyber Physical Systems

Edge Computing

*sigh*

It will never end.

Sorry for the offtopic. Although, of course it's the same for AI in gaming. Rarely much more than some decent scripting.
