Cyberpunk 2077 will be censored in Japan

Sexual references, nudity and dismemberment to be toned down

For example, underwear will be added to character models that appear naked in all other versions, while billboards and graffiti shaped as genitals will be altered or removed.

There is a more general note observing that CD Projekt Red will "[revise] sexually explicit content" for the Japanese version. This may well include the customisable genitals mentioned in the ESRB rating.

I find this kinda odd. If true.
For all I know onscreen mosaic blur covering genitalia is a must by law in Japan only in live porn while pubic hair can be shown, although it rarely happens, in nonhentai anime.

I don't know anything about japanese videogames laws however.
Anyone who could shed some more light on this?

Also would be interesting to know which other countries have strict laws against backsides and "frontsides" in videogames in a way there is no mature rating or something that'd make a game adults only instead of instaban.

These feel as could have been different, sure you meet Jackie but prior to that it does smell like choicebased story told.

Given the character creation choices/setting everything should be romanceable.:lol:

I can't decide which life path I'll go with first. Hopefully when I sit down with it something will jump out at me. They all appeal in different ways atm.

It's basically because Japanese games have their own organisation, CERO, that rates video games only (other Japanese organisations rate things like movies) and they're notoriously conservative with their ratings (to the point that even the Australian or German censors would raise their eyebrows at them. Lord knows what the other Japanese censorship boards must think of them, considering what those other Japanese ones approve).

So, exposed breasts, sex, graphic violence is all going to have CERO frowning pretty heavily at you and demanding you tone your game down.

And yeah, the genitals would have to be pixel-censored in Japan if they did decide to go ahead and leave the full-frontal option in - that law is not just mandatory for real people, it covers drawn/computer generated images as well.

Edit: As to your question of other countries that will likely censor this: probably the Middle East (usually Japan and the Middle East get the same censored version). Australia's apparently already given it a rating without demanding censorship - they usually care more about glorifying drug use in games than nudity. Don't know about Germany, the other area that often censors violent games.
