Hey @Couchpotato,

There was some kind of news bomb in the last few hours, not directly RPG-related but instead, related to a person very well-known of us RPGamers. If you allow me to post some links in your thread, here it goes:

Dying Light 2 writer Chris Avellone accused of sexual assault and harassment

Chris Avellone accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women

Such accusations, if proven to be true, tend to destroy reputations.
Yeah we have a thread in the PR forums.:(

Sad to say Avellone will no longer work in the games industry anymore. I've seen this happen many times. One day he's the hero the next the pauper. Cancel culture.

Anyway no problem I don't mind comments or others sharing links.

I am by no means excusing any inappropriate or bad behavior on Avellone's part. The articles don't give a whole lot of details on the alleged sexual assault(s) or the text messages. And absolutely, no one should sexually harass anyone, make unwelcome sexual advances or contact, or take advantage of someone else's inebreation or incapacitation.

But I have to take exception to statements from the complainants like "he got them drunk" and "he got me black out drunk". Unless he was holding women down and forcing alcohol down their throats, no one else is getting them drunk. They are getting themselves drunk. Again, its no excuse for Avellone taking advantage of their being drunk, but the ladies need to own that they made the decision to get drunk, no one put a gun to anyone's head and forced them to drink.

And let's face it, guys and gals have been getting drunk in bars together and than having drunken sex since alcohol and bars first existed. Men and women go to bars to either socialize, watch entertainment, or to hook up. Avellone isn't the first person who ever tried to pick up a girl in a bar, this happens all the time and alcohol consumption by both parties is usually involved.

AND AGAIN, this does not excuse any type of sexual assault, harassment, or anyone forcing themselves or having sex with someone who is so inebriated he/she is unable to consent. I'm just saying that we are all responsible for our own actions. Getting drunk is an individual choice. No one makes that choice for you. When two people are drunk together, they are both impaired and probably not making the best decisions. We are all adults, we know this. Unless a girl is completely clueless, it's usually pretty obvious when a guy is plying her with drinks in the hopes of having sex with her. The best way to avoid this situation entirely is to just not put yourself in that situation by getting wasted with guys you barely know in the first place.

Deus Ex 20th Anniversary: Programmer Scott Martin Interview - TechRadar
On June 23, 2000, the team at Ion Storm Austin released Deus Ex into the world and held their breath for about a month.

Weeks earlier, Ion Storm's Dallas office made gaming history with Daikatana, widely considered one of PC gaming's biggest failures, and Deus Ex was thrown into the middle of a raging firestorm that it had nothing to do with.

Years of development hell, atrocious marketing, and management dysfunction in Dallas had come to a head just as the monthly gaming magazine print cycle caught up to Daikatana's release. They were all full of reviews of one of the most hyped games in history of PC games – few of them were kind, and none of them were good.
Deus Ex at 20: The oral history of a pivotal PC game - Rock Paper Shotgun
Deus Ex is the king of the immersive sims – the blueprint from which an entire genre of ideas has been pilfered. If you’ve loved a Dishonored game, you’ve enjoyed Deus Ex by proxy; its design, and even some of its developers, can be found at the very centre of Arkane’s DNA.

For those who played it 20 years ago, Deus Ex set expectations for how malleable game worlds could be, and new standards for reactivity that the rest of the industry failed to match in the decade that followed. Deus Ex was ultimately so influential that, as one of our interviewees points out, its innovations now seem normal.

Here’s the story of how it was made, as told by the people who made it. The story begins in 1997, at a time when testosterone-fuelled first-person shooters still dominate PC gaming. Thief and System Shock developer Looking Glass has closed its Austin studio to save the ailing company, leaving Warren Spector and a team of crack simulation nerds without a project.

Summer of Gaming 2020 Torchlight 3 Gameplay Interview

Torchlight 3 director Max Schaefer and composer Matt Uelmen helped create Diablo and Diablo 2 at Blizzard North 20 years ago. Now, they're taking everything they've learned about action-RPGs and pouring it into making what they hope will be their best ARPG yet in Torchlight 3.
Wasteland 3 - Vehicular Combat Interview - GameInformer
In Wasteland 3, you’ll manage a team of up to six Rangers as they battle for survival while exploring Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. However, the most valuable member of your team might be your car. To help you explore this winter wasteland, your team boards a tank-like truck – called the Kodiak – outfitted with a wild assortment of weapons. This machine is named after the bear, which is fitting because this car can take a lot of damage and is incredibly fearsome in combat. During random encounters, the Kodiak tears through large groups of enemies and is instrumental to your survival. We talked to game director Tim Campbell about what makes this monstrous motor so special.

Black Geyser: Almost nobody knows of it - Gamestar
Who would have thought that the next few years would be such a festival for fans of classic role-playing games? With Wrath of the Righteous a new Pathfinder is just around the corner and even the genre primus Baldur's Gate will continue with Part 3.

But Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness doesn't just want to jump on the train. The first work by the independent studio GrapeOcean Technologies not only copies the proven game principle, but also wants to combine all the strengths of the popular role-playing classics. Magic, crafting, character creation, dialogues, battles and more are expanded and improved according to the developer compared to the old role-playing inspirations.

They were already convinced of their game last year when we conducted a detailed interview with them for GameStar Plus. We summarize the most important information here and add all the new details that we have now learned in conversation with studio manager David Zakal.
Torchlight III Early Access Impressions

PC Gamer
I'm only about eight hours in, so I obviously haven't seen everything Torchlight 3 has to offer—plus, again, it's just entered Early Access and there's no doubt many months of changes, tweaks, and additions to come. But much as I love my destructive little robot, and I am having fun battling mobs of goblins and skeletons, it's hard not to feel a little disappointed by how much seems to be missing from Torchlight 3 right now.
IGN
Torchlight 3’s current Early Access incarnation is a fast food combo meal of an ARPG. In almost every respect, it’s acceptable. It’s fine. It’s just not revolutionary or memorable or even especially fun compared to its competition. And maybe as it progresses toward its final form, things will shape up and some diamonds will start to emerge from the rough. But for now, I’d have a hard time recommending it to anyone who might be drawn in by its attractive and distinct look and attitude. You won’t find much of substance to back it up, and there are so many better options to get your dungeon-crawling, loot-inhaling fix.
PC Invasion
Even though I don’t consider myself as someone who’s been particularly enamored with the Torchlight franchise, I can’t help but feel that even the most ardent fans will be disappointed given Torchlight III‘s current state. We can all agree that it’s an early access title, and it can only get better over time. Still, this is supposed to be part of a long-standing series with a winning formula.
The Waylanders Early Access Impressions

PC Gamer
I'm most interested in The Waylanders' overall worldbuilding. Steeped in Celtic folklore, the game promises a break for those weary of the oft-used elves-dwarves-humans high fantasy setup. I'm especially taken with the Morians, a race of golden-eyed immortals who can see the future. They share the Underworld with the Fomorians, one-eyed monsters straight out of a Junji Ito manga, mainly known for their… cannibalism. If you really get to witness political and religious changes and make decisions that will influence the course of such a far-reaching narrative, there will be a lot about The Waylanders to enjoy. If everything comes together, the payoff will be great, but I'd give it some time before diving in.
IGN
The Waylanders seems like an engaging take on the Celtic mythos, which rarely gets a spotlight in entertainment media as it is, and I’m intrigued to see where it ends up once it hits final release. GATO Studio is clearly invested in creating an experience alongside its community, and with a fresh take on RPG systems and a unique world, we’ll gladly keep checking back throughout early access to see how it’s shaping up.
Shacknews
The Waylanders’ marketing sports an all-star lineup of talent from the minds behind the script, to the programmers and designers. It’s this amalgamation of talent that had me a little trepidatious going in. I worried that Gato Studio’s RPG would end up being a little less than the sum of its parts. Fortunately, The Waylanders nails expectations, offering a new and unique addition to the beloved genre.

Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness Update #37 - Backer Beta is ready
The Backer Beta has been ready for several days, and it’s bigger than we initially planned!

Having said that, as with every beta, it contains bugs – some of which we don't know about and you will hopefully help us to find. Also, it lacks several features, refinements and performance optimizations that didn’t make it to the beta but will be present in the final game.
Diablo II - 20th Anniversary Celebration - Retrospective Article
When we set out to create Diablo® II over twenty years ago, the goals were seemingly simple: fix the biggest issues in Diablo® and expand upon the original game’s formula. And while its developers didn’t set out specifically to turn the action RPG genre on its head or influence game design for an entire generation after it, Diablo II ended up doing just that anyway.

The Outer Worlds Wins Best Game Writing for 2019 - Gamerant
The Nebula Awards, the prestigious awards for science fiction and fantasy works, have decided on their 2019 winner for Best Game Writing in the category's second year. And just like in 2018, the choice is being seen as a controversial decision. This year's winner is Obsidian Entertainment's open-world sci-fi game The Outer Worlds.
Bloodlines 2 Developer Interview - USgamer
Hardsuit Labs had stayed fairly quiet in the months leading up to last month's Xbox showcase. Since the Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 developer announced a delay in October of last year, pushing the sequel of a cult-classic vampire RPG into the latter half of 2020, the studio seems to have been mostly heads-down in development.

At the time, Hardsuit CEO Andy Kipling and lead narrative designer Brian Mitsoda plainly laid out why the delay was necessary. Speaking to Hardsuit Labs recently, Lead Producer Nikhat Ali echoes the sentiment: the bar is set high for Bloodlines 2, both from fans and, as Ali tells me, internally at Hardsuit Labs. And the ghost of the original Bloodlines' notoriously spotty launch still lingers to this day.

"It is well known that the first Bloodlines game launched with a number of issues," Ali says. "We won't ship a game in that state. Last year it became clear to us that we needed more time to deliver the game that the community expects."

Knights of the Chalice 2 Kickstarter Campaign Funded - Final Update

Following a strong finish, the campaign raised 253% of its base goal. Thank you so much everyone for taking part in the campaign and for all your valiant and steadfast efforts in spreading the word to the four corners of the earth until the very last minute!!

Including pledges through Paypal and the RPG Codex fundraiser, we've raised a total of GBP 40,290, equivalent to USD 50,222.
Colony Ship Update #45: The Armory - Update
We're wrapping up the Armory (the second location), so we can finally show you something other than the starting town. Let's start with the intro:

With row after row of gutted depots, the Armory stretches before you as a shell of what it once was. The mutineers hit it fast and hard, overrunning the surprised security forces and stripping it of supplies. Weapons and armor meant for the future colony flooded the Ship, turning the Mutiny into a full-fledged war. The Ship Authority held its own in the end, keeping control of the lower decks, but at a great cost that went far beyond the Armory's lost supplies.

Your destination lies ahead – a reinforced door flanked by twin auto-cannons drawing on a seemingly inexhaustible power supply. No one made it past during the Mutiny, and no one's made it past since. Like the proverbial flaming sword outside of Eden, it sits as a guardian, a symbol of ancient strength, and a promise of marvels beyond.

You get the access card from Tanner (as mentioned in the combat demo), so getting past the automated security on that floor will be easy. However, you'd have to get past the local thugs first. You can fight or talk your way through or simply sneak past them. Multiple quest solutions are one of the cornerstones of our design philosophy.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is basically Ubisoft's own Witcher 3 - Tweaktown
In the footage we see a castle siege culminate in a bloody and chaotic battle. The combat isn't as fluid as Geralt's acrobatic style, but Eivor has some tricks up their sleeves. The Spartan Kick is back, and this time we can dual-wield and deftly dodge attacks. There's siege engines and battering rams that you can actually interact with, complete with destructible environments like gates. There's beheadings and fatality executions too. A hefty boss fight punctuates the siege, complete with monstrous wolves.

The RPG interactions like NPC questing and dialog are very fluid and also bring Witcher 3 vibes. The characters are well animated and feel grounded in the world around them, and Eivor probably has dialog choices this time, but we didn't see any. Some of the NPC scenes discussed unions of the Saxons and Danes, underlining the game's core focus on political unions.

The skillpoint system is kind of a constellation setup like Skyrim with a ton of passives, similar to Path of Exile.
Damn this game looks good.:excited:
I have no idea if a scene or the whole vid is problematic, but those interested can check working links on reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/comments/hlsscq/ac_valhalla_gameplay_is_leaked/

It does look fun and I'm buying definetly.
