As must be obvious, his is a charisma-based build. Everybody loves a wrinkled ginger!

The head makes me think of a scientist type - and charisma is also about personality, maybe he is good at inspiring folks :)

My guy is a melee (strength) and charisma based build. I like to try and talk my way out of things first but if that fails then out comes the tire iron :)

Aye I have a problem :) But at least I keep my screenshot session to the end of each night - separating them that way lets me play without breaking immersion.

So they have all this cool tech and weapons and robots, and computers are still of 1974 quality ?

Wolf, your screenshots are quality. Mine look washed out all the time except on clear sunny days at noon. In fact my PC that looked pretty decent in the beginning char gen mirror looks pretty awful in 3rd person mode from a distance outside. Probably has to do with my settings all being at medium. He looks like a ghoul. ;) The animations for conversation can be better depending on the lighting, but mostly awful too.

Needless to say, I won't be sharing any shots. :)

Good news is that I may be getting my new laptop this week, and I can ramp up the settings (hopefully) then. :)

I really like using the Pip-boy. I got a darker-night mod which I combined with my ReShade preset and nights and interiors are pretty cool now - not so dark I am blind but dark enough some things scare the crap out of me when they jump out. I changed the HUD and Pip-Light to something closer to a fire-orange color though. But think the green makes for a better effect for the game. Like in this shot for the radiation suit.

@Thrasher - Thank you! I splurged on a deluxe computer which helps a great deal on graphics. Plus I spent some time learning the basics of ReShade effects and make two simple little presets. One for an old style vintage/gritty feel for cinematic playing. Then one that removes the haze and makes things clear and crisp (and helps makes nights a bit darker).

Just two shots of Dogmeat who is my favorite companion so far.

Cool. What is the preset you made for crisping? I assume this requires an addon that my old laptop won't be able to handle, but like i said, next week should be different. :)

I really don't have anything to show from my game (sorry, but... I don't find anything visually spectacular in this game except museum of witchcraft interior but the ambient relies heavily on sounds there).

There is however a collection of others' settlements pics, I dare to say some better than anything Bethesda did:

I used ReShade and made my own preset. A mix of other presets I saw and my own testing and tweaking. I can share it when you get your laptop if you like. Otherwise there are plenty already on Nexus. Silk Shadows does some nice dark nights but it was too dark for me and using black levels isn't a great thing so I ended up seeing how they did some things and then used that knowledge on my own preset till I got something I like and that worked with the darker nights mod.

Enhanced Wasteland is also nice, and crisp, but too vibrant for me so again I just got some ideas from it.

FPS is not that bad as not using any advanced features. DOF and SSAO/HBAO can cost things but don't have to use them. DOF I use but its enable/disable for shots anyhow.

I know I always hog these threads way too much but I love taking shots. Got about 10 hours in last few days so a few shots saved up. Just having a blast. Did Corvega, a few settlements, and finally made it to Diamond City.

Two shots of Wolf with the Junk Gun. He sold it as he is not into guns but was fun to play with for a bit.

Wolf's current favorite weapon - a named Chinese Serrated Sword that does extra damage against robots.

Not the best shot but liked it because it was a nice shot of them relaxing for a bit.

Nice pics Wolf. I especially like the shot of the radiation storm. Whatever tweaks you've made to the lighting really add to the atmosphere.

I'm tempted to start fooling around with those shader tweaks now. Are they fairly simple to use?

I hope there'll be a face mod if I ever try this game.... that is what I hate the most about all Bethesda games... the faces are horrible! Especially the female faces.

Thank you!

Simple in this regard is relative to how comfortable someone is with computers and software in general. I consider it fairly simple in regards to just tweaking the parameters (but very complex and totally out of my area when it comes to the FX coding itself). Certainly a hell of a lot easier to tweak then ENB. ENB has hundreds of settings while ReShade ones are all all global. Pro and Con of course - global makes it simpler and easier but then you lose control over things like night/day and interior/exterior.

Anyhow I picked up using it in about two days of fiddling with it. I just downloaded the most current ReShade version from the website (reshade.me), read the readme, and installed it manually. FO4 uses 64 bit so just need to rename the reshade64.dll to dxgi.dll.

SO install is as simple as adding the ReShade folder, the renamed dxgi.dll file, and the reshade.fx fil to fallout install folder. Then all the effects are tweaked inside the ReShade folder.

Common.cfg - this has global settings for screenshot format, showing start-up messages (very useful to make sure things are working right), and stats. I just assign hot keys (using the ANSI values which you can find in the \ReShade\PersonalFiles folder in KeyCodes.h file).

McFx.cfg - this code file has the SSAO/HBAO (but doesn't work well with Fallout because of a lack of proper depth code interaction with the engine and ReShade I believe). It also has the DOF code which I use a lot. I assign it to a hot key so I can enable/disable it on the fly in-game. I also make it fairly subtle but it tends to not be as game-friendly as ENB Dof for skyrim.

GemFX.cfg - Handles ambient light, bloom, and motion effects.

SweetFX.cfg - this has the majority of effects used for creating cinematic, extreme, vintage, or other visuals. Most presets for games use the stuff in this file.

I would probably suggest focusing on SweetFX. I used it for my own preset, along with DOF settings.

Just edit the files with Notepad, Notepad++, or your favorite text editor. Plenty of comments and notes. Easy to enable/disable effects although I did a fair amount of experimenting to get a feel for how they work. I also looked at other presets to see their values and how they looked in-game to get ideas.

Note you can edit on the fly. Just start the game, alt-tab out and open the CFG file you want to edit. Make a change and just save the file (don't have to close it). Alt-tab back to FO4 and it will reload the changes so you can see them right away. Makes it easier to edit and see the changes. Can also assign custom hot keys to enable/disable all effects globally or specific effects (in some cases - a few effects don't have hot keys attached).

If you like a more gritty and wasteland like visual I can suggest some presets on Nexus to start with - some are a bit extreme but can be tweaked down easy enough.

Saltr Reshade Preset (which I used as the base for the shot you liked): http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/975/?

Wasteland Grit: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/246/?

Decay is very popular with the crowd that wants a very bleak look to the game: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/108/?

Can look around the nexus under the visuals category.

Also a darker nights mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/191/?

Which you can use with the Silk Shadows preset: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/368/? for some really dark nights.

My own preset, Grim Reshade, is a mix of Silk Shadows and Enhanced Wasteland settings with my own changes, and additions, to fit my own tastes.

Wolf Steelson. Real name is Corwin but he hates that. His name was assigned at Mom's Orphange by the head mistress. He was found as an infant on 23rd Steelson Avenue hence the last name. I have a rather long and detailed back story on him but that is standard for me as I like to have well defined character personalities and history.

A few I gathered that might be interesting.
If someone is not sure why the pic is there… Ask please.
