Encased - Content Patch 4

Never played Disco Elysium it just didn't click any boxes for me. Seemed more like a point and click adventure game. So am I wrong and missing out? Wouldn't be the first time.

I love point and click adventures.

Disco Elysium, however, has stats and feats allowing for example to fight better or to solve situations by nonviolent methods. You can also find better armor and things like that. And you can die in fights if you are not good enough in either convincing people or fighting them. So it is surely no pure point and click adventure.

However, most of the things you do are nonviolent exploration, talking to people and so on, so it surely feels a lot like an adventure. I would recommend it to everybody, for whom fighting is not the most important thing in an RPG, but rather exploration, lore, story and atmosphere. For me it was one of the best games I have played in the last years.

They didn't do a good job portraying that in the press videos. It always looked like a point and click game that I rarely watched any role-playing. Not the only one either.

I've read many reviews on this site when the game was released say the same. Maybe I'm not looking for something different as I have my own likes and dislikes for RPGs.

Basically an old dog set in his ways.:)

I'm curious about Disco Elysium too, but I really need to finish at least another game first. Let us know what you think when you're far enough :)

I did buy both "Encased" and "Elysium" and have now played the latter for about 9 hrs. It *does* feel much more like an adventure than an rpg, even though it has character stats, skills to improve, dialogue & actions that require skill-checks etc. etc.

The game itself is quite good & entertaining, fun to play a highly eccentric detective and containing lots of humor.

On the more negative side, I must admit that it does rub me the wrong way, with very extensive dialogues & it's massive amount of politics. The conversations are an endless repetition of capitalism vs. communism, free market vs. socialism, free expression vs. anti-predjudice, anarchy vs. state control… and so on, and so on… :-/

So, it's an SJW game that actually made money? Wow!

Lol, I'm honestly not quite sure. Whether the game really attempts to propagandize certain political viewpoints or if it's merely making the player constantly choose between opposing points of view, from a more or less politically neutral stance.

In order to determine that, I would actually have to pay real attention to all the politics, instead of just skimming past it, in my search for things that are relevant to the "murder case" my character is working on.

That's something I'm not willing to do, since I don't want to ruin my enjoyment of an otherwise well made and entertaining game. :p
