Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Deep Dive Trailer & System Specs
Assassin's Creed Valhalla - Deep Dive Trailer & System Specs

I find it amusing someone can't wrap there head around the concept that people might enjoy companion interactions with a romance or best friend type option simply for the enjoyment of it … and seems to feel only desperate gamers with a failed love life would enjoy such things. That implies that the reason anyone likes any specific aspect or option or mechanic in a game is because they are desperate for such an aspect/option/mechanic and is a failure because they don't have it.
People like different things in game. I consider it immersive to have companions in games that react to what you do, like you, dislike you, love you, hate you, etc., What I tend to find unimmersive in a game are pack-mule characters that might as well be zombies due to zero personality or background.

…
I agree that romance is often part of the immersion and should be there, yet the question "will there be there romance?" makes me feel slightly annoyed. Of course there will be romance in modern AAA games because it sells and is expected. No point to ask.
Yet, the question was probably sarcasm in the first place.

To be clear I myself don't put any emphasis on the supposed climax of a romance with a sex scene. A kiss and fade to black is more than enough for me. Not that I care either way mind you but I tend to agree that maybe the devs would prefer to focus on other things than a sex cinematic and the animations that go with it … I don't know how they feel about it.
For me the enjoyment is the interaction with characters, of which romance is only one part or aspect. Even when offered I may bypass it to simply be friends.

I'm guessing some don't know that actual porn games are their own genre on the PC. Nothing new really and you can make a nice profit on Patreon, and other services.

I'd always take a well done romance plot (built up, dialogues, quests) with a fade to black over a fully fleshed out porn scene that I can select with a single plot-less mouse click.
I also like the game to recognize the relationship later. Be it by mechanics (boni to rolls), mentions in dialogues or whatever.

Didn't see all the answers to my question until now. Valid points. Never thought of it that way. I learned something new, thanks

I like romance options in games, I don’t need to see the actually sex acts though.
If that’s a need it can be satisfied in much better ways.

The Witcher did romance right. It doesn't need to be more than what it was in that game.

If there was a well done actual relationship simulator out there I might even try it. But I really doubt they exist. Would be an insane effort as long as we don't have strong AIs.

But still the game presenting them like collectibles was a stupid thing.

Geralt is a super-human stud-muffin drifter who's out to bang and bounce, not settle down. It gave the game that feel, that of a lay-my-hate hero on adventure, getting his kicks, then moving on to the next one (adventure & kicks).

Yep, not creepy. Most of them were well done.
But still the game presenting them like collectibles was a stupid thing.
But in fact the cards are disorderly strewn around the codex, hidden away behind tiny heart icons, and it's impossible to get them all in one playthrough nor does the game keep track of them globally. Not much of a collection, that.
