Gaming BS of the week

I was just waiting till it happens. Ubi PR strikes again.
http://www.pcgamer.com/ubisoft-says-assassins-creed-origins-high-cpu-usage-is-not-due-to-drm/

In a statement posted on Steam, however, Ubisoft declared that "the anti-tamper solutions implemented in the Windows PC version of Assassin’s Creed Origins have no perceptible effect on game performance."

"Assassin’s Creed Origins uses the full extent of the minimum and recommended PC system requirements here: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/1759689 while ensuring a steady 30 fps performance," a rep wrote. "We’re committed to ensuring the most optimum experience possible for everyone, …

Unbloodybelievable.
Between lines however Ubisoft admits pulling the sneaky thing with so far only rumored VRprotect on a game without disclosing it - we knew Denuvo is up but why hiding the fact there is another DRM if not to avoid fingerpointing on performance problems?

Someone please remove incompetent coders and especially their PR fogsellers from the industry already.

64kb! Never needed more than 4K!

Seriously, we ran all the systems (ordering, payroll, picking, import, etc.) for a 60+ store retail chain on a PDP-11/70 in 16k in 1980, and it was all written in COBOL

This one could easily compete for BS of the year:

Call of Duty WWII Players Can Watch Each Other Open Loot Boxes

Call of Duty’s communal multiplayer hub is where players can form parties, practice shooting, watch videos, accept missions and participate in a variety of training exercises. It’s also where players open their supply drops, which are loot boxes containing various cosmetic upgrades and the odd squad experience boost. Players with a box to open pop smoke, and a crate falls from the sky, opening wide for all to see its contents.

That’s right, anybody in the hub with you can see what you’ve just unboxed, and you can see theirs. A notice appears in the lower left corner of the screen when a player is opening a drop. Should they score a rare weapon skin or modification, the hub lets everybody know. Watching other players unbox their loot isn’t only allowed, it’s encouraged. One of the first daily missions I selected, “Loot Spectator,” required me to watch other players open three supply crates. The reward for doing so? A supply crate.

Chien's paradise.

Chien's paradise.

I don’t really care because I just ignore micro transactions and loot boxes but this has reached an all new level of stupid.

It doesn’t surprise me thought my son and his friends spend as much time watching others play games as they play them themselves.

My son has a dual monitor setup and will have streams running on one while playing on the other. The look at me generation is really getting out of hand imo.

I’m typing this on the toilet maybe I should be streaming it so I know it really happened.:p

Streaming from a toilet. How original!

I seriously thought we won't see some of weekly BS that could qualify as BS of the year in 2017.

Just… Watch the video.

I'm speechless.
Make no mistake, what's on phones today, tomorrow will appear on PC.

EA get the most downvoted comment in Reddit history in response to Battlefront 2 criticism
https://www.pcgamesn.com/star-wars-battlefront-ii/battlefront-2-microtransactions-darth-vader

The reddit thread ("Seriously? I paid 80$ to have Vader locked?"):
https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa...ously_i_paid_80_to_have_vader_locked/dppum98/

EA's reply:
The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes.
As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we're looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily basis, and we'll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding, and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on Reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.

Additionally players calculated that you need to grind 40 hours to unlock Luke Skywalker - if you don't want to shell out more real $.

IMO after this bullshit practice and even bigger bullshit statement, the downvote was well deserved.
While I'm not buying this game and perhaps shouldn't care about what's going on in MMO market, there is a chance EA or someone else pulls this "prank" in singleplayer games so if this case helps against it, I have to say thanks to everyone who reacted on reddit.

I really don't think that the reactions are going to do anything. EA said that they will be 'tweaking' things which is what they say with every game they put out when they realize their money grabbing techniques are actually going to cost them more money. I think one of the biggest things that could have an affect on their marketing model would be somehow ensuring that anyone under 16 cannot purchase any of the loot crates since that equated to gambling.

I can't believe how quickly politicians will condemn a game for violence to 'save the children' but then don't care at all about these children spending hundreds to thousands of dollars gambling in game.

Well, this latest episode has made it to the BBC news headlines today, so I expect some suits, somewhere, might be having a bit of a think about how far they can push this.

erm... I ought to concentrate on gaming industry here when starting the thread, but okay I guess, not that the thread has much audience anyway because everything is peachy. :D

I get angry when I read this :

Because the processor is not supported together with the Windows version that you are currently using, your system will miss important security updates.

I very clearly fail to see what a processor has to do with a security update ? I mean, security updates do not touch or modify the hardware, don't they ?

My understanding is that security updates are fully software-based, not hardware based.

And thanks to Microsoft's overwhelming OS monopoly (well, apart from Linux, maybe, or even ReactOS, or the eComStation, an derivate of OS/2), everybody just shrugs and goes on.

Well … Welcome to the world of capitalism, in which any monopoly is the most effective form of increasing profits …

Your right it has nothing to do with the hardware. They just don’t want to continue to support old OS’s. Which I think is understandable.

This happens to everything. There’s tons of software out there that companies stop supporting, consoles stop getting support with each new generation, old electronics stop getting new parts made or firmware updates, manufactures stop making original parts for old car, etc, etc.

Everything has a life span.

Long time no see. Time for some Apple BS:
https://wccftech.com/apple-confirms-iphone-slowing-down/
Apple States That it Slowed Performance to Prolong the Life of Its Mobile Phones – Plans to do the Same With Future iPhone Models
No, it wasn't because you just have to go mortgage then buy a new, faster, unbelievably expensive, iPhone.

Then comes some "future shock" BS:
http://www.dsogaming.com/news/squad...list-16gb-of-ram-new-teaser-trailer-released/
Here are the full PC minimum requirements for Squadron 42:
OS: Windows 7 (64bit) with Service Pack 1, Windows 8 (64bit), Windows 10 – Anniversary Update (64bit) - okay
GPU: DirectX 11 Graphics Card with 2GB RAM (4GB strongly recommended) - that low?
CPU: Quad Core CPU - doesn't everyone have it already?
RAM: 16GB+ - O_O WTF?!

Did nVidia appear in this thread before?
Dunno.

https://www.vg247.com/2018/01/08/geforce-now-beta/
Stream the most demanding games to your potato PC with Nvidia GeForce Now beta

Okay, it's beta so it's free. But the evil masterplan when it ends the public test phase is to charge $25 for every 20 hours of gaming your favorite title you own on any platform.

IMO biggest milk'em bullshit than this are only Xbox idiocy integrated on win10 and ps4 "now" junk.
What'll be next? Charging for some online shadowplay use in case your PC doesn't have nVidia card inside?

Amy Hennig, game director and writer at Visceral Games that was closed down by Electronic Arts:
https://wccftech.com/hennig-people-ask-story-based-games/
People Ask for Story Based Games But Aren’t Necessarily Buying Them, They Just Watch Them
Did she say something wrong?
Of course she did. Not only people wouldn't buy, they wouldn't even watch mediocre garbage with EA written all over it. Unless boobs, ofc.
And besides, TW3 waves hi on her.

A con artist cons you and when you realize what happened you'll ask his opinion if it was a fraud or not? Or you'll take it to police/cour and to newspapers so the public gets aware of the bullshit and doesn't step on it like you did?
Right.

EA CFO:” We Do Not Believe That Loot Boxes Are A Form Of Gambling”

And I believe that statement was a part of self pep talk that begins with: "Mirror mirror on the wall…".
