Kingmaker Pathfinder: Kingmaker Question/Tips & Tricks Thread

Pathfinder: Kingmaker
Hmmm, so question. Should I make my main character pure empyreal sorcerer instead of multi classing into cleric and mystic theurge?

@ChatMiauleur; you don't have to travel with companions all the time unless you plan to romance someone. However, I finished the whole game with default companions, and didn't have any issues on normal difficulty. I enjoyed having them around for a chat and also for special camping abilities :)

My party was:
MC: half elf crusader (cleric), secondary tank/dps/buff&heal support
Valerie: Fighter/Stalwart Defender, main tank
Amiri: Barbarian, melee dps (had to switch her around at times with Jubilost: Alchemist is pretty awesome)
Ekundayo: Ranger (his dog is really cool!), ranged dps
Octavia: Thief/Mage, ranged dps
Tristian: Cleric, buff/healbot

@purpleblob;, I personally think multiclassing is more fun, but it's really your choice. Can't go wrong with the Prestige classes. :)

Well I guess I'll share my party right now in Chapter 5, level 12.

PC: Asirius, 5 Archaeologist/4 Rogue/3 Dragon Disciple
Valerie, 8 Tower Shield Specialist/4 Stalwart Defender
Amiri, 9 Barbarian/3 Two Handed Fighter
Nok-Nok, 12 Knife Master
Harrim, 6 Cleric/6 Sacred Huntsmaster (Inquisitor)
Octavia, 2 Rogue/4 Wizard/6 Arcane Trickster
Marty, Harrim's pet companion Mastadon :p

But I'm starting to try and mix companions in and out a bit more. I like Jaethal who's also 10 Inquisitor/2 Two Handed Fighter, so I'll switch her with Amiri here and there. I'd like to use Harrim less and try maybe Ekun (who I'm thinking of making into a Paladin of Torag) or Linzi, Jubilost, etc.. So many fun ways to build your party you can come up with all sorts of interesting combinations. :)

Hey, can I ask a spoiler-ish question about Act 5 but get a non-spoiler answer? :)

I know where Armag's tomb is because I had the ferryman drown Jaethal (she was undead, I figured it wouldn't hurt :p), so I can go immediately to the tomb. I discovered this literally right after leaving the first battlefield with Jamandi in Act 5. Linzi comes at the capital and says we don't have much time to find him, so I'm wondering if I should spend 2 weeks to rank up an officer to deal with that other event where the guy is trying to overthrow my barony, OR head immediately to the tomb. Note - I also don't want to finish Ch. 5 until the new DLC comes out. Can someone help me out with some clues?

Thank ye in advance! :)

Fluent, please head straight to the tomb. I want to know what happens then.

I couldn't locate the area until I finished 2 kingdom projects to discover the tomb (this, along with ferry story book encounter, increases chance to discover Armag's tomb - but you found it already without having to do kingdom projects!! That means you may find Armag before the hidden timer runs out!! I couldn't because the timer ran out while I was still waiting kingdom projects to complete.

Chapter 5 don't start until you are coronated and get an invitation from king of Pitax. Which will come few weeks (or even months?) after you finish the tomb.

Will do! I got extremely lucky to find the location - was just
heading home to the capital, lightly exploring some of the side maps and saw the ferry area "Pike Creek" (or something) as a shortcut home and stopped there. I even failed the Athletics check in the storybook event but chose to drown Jaethal as she was undead anyway. The vision we saw was where the tomb was. Crazy, wasn't even looking for it!

Wow @purpleblob;, you won't believe what happened!

Since I got there in time, the sword didn't devour his soul entirely. He said the sword can't control him anymore, so I let him live, and we became blood brothers (he cut his hand and mine and we became brothers). But now I'm hit with this stupid bug! He gets up and everyone starts fighting again! Ugh. He was so hard to beat the first time and I'm not sure why this keeps happening, happened twice now. Going to try and look for a solution to this bug but I'm very upset at this one. :(

Just...ugh. Keep me posted if you find out anything about this please. :bigcry:

LOL I had that bug too.

@TheRealFluent;

For me, I quickly headed out before he got up and started to butcher my party again. When I was outside, he was out there, all normal. Try that and see it works fine for you. Good luck!

Bit disappointed though, doesn't seem like there's anything really different to getting there on time or late. Meh :p

Are you sure there's nothing different later in the game maybe? Seems weird, the word "soul" was lit up in dialogue and said because I made it there quickly, I did good essentially. Weird.

Anyway, I fixed it by restarting my PC and quicksaving during dialogue with him. Then at the end of dialogue immediately quicksaved, paused and had my party run to the other side of the room. All is good now. Whew, that was scary, lol. :sweatdrop::anxious:

This is what happened in my run:
When I finally encountered Armag, he was with defaced sister. He realised he isn't the legendary Armag reborn (the sword told him so or something), he gets enraged and kills the sister who lied to him and also attacks my party. After he was defeated, I could forgive him/let him go and he swore to be my blood brother. I forgot some of the finer details, but I think it sounds similar to your experience.

This is what it said in dialogue.

Maybe you being able to
spare his life
was a bug? LOL

LOL I think I had the same dialogue.... yep, a bit disappointing. I suppose, the game is designed so that most of us get there late, and it's intended we get same dialogue regardless. If you discover the place early, you just save on some time maybe?

Are you sure you got there late, though? How do you know you missed the timer?

The quest updates saying that you failed to track down Armag before he finds what he is looking for in the tomb. I also got little cross in the journal progression (you know the sub-steps, not the overall quest). Or, that could be a bug? Because the very first run, I got there super late and didn't get a chance to forgive him. Armag just simply killed himself even if I tried to forgive him.
@TheRealFluent;: Made a small edit in spoiler tag, in case you missed :p

That's crazy. That's got to be a bug then, but you're the one who got it, lol. Disappointing indeed. Ah well. Onward back to the capital! (with a bloody hand :p)

Ah, just saw your edit. Not sure really, but it seems like it's working as it should, it just gives you a lot of time, and the quest log was bugged.

I think what happened in my second run *could* be a bug, but hey, I'm not complaining lol. I will pay more attention to it in my third run.

Haha, yeah, something weird is going on there. :p But at least we know there are actually different outcomes there, and you saw them both.

@purpleblob;, What questions did you try at the Inconsequent Debates? I'm wondering what they say when you ask
How do I achieve glory and immortality? or "What's a good pet name?". I asked "Why did the fey set up this event?" and they answered "We were bored." lol
Just curious if there's anything else hidden in that event.

You didn't ask question about gnomes?? Jubilost went there to specifically find answer to that question??

I asked about gnomes and bleaching, which he answers by another riddle. I won't spoil anymore here, you'd rather find it out yourself.

My second question was who is my true love. Again, you don't get straight answer - they will mention your current active romance option (in my case, Tristian), but they say there's another (a secret romance option, only unlockable in the later chapter).

My third question was why they have this debate, which you also asked :p
