Hey guys! I'm currently one half of the two-man team building the indie game: Backspace Bouken. It's a typing first-person dungeon crawler, started as a Ludum Dare 42 game last year. We're planning a release later this year or next year on both PC and Linux, and would love to know what you guys think, as core fans of the traditional games we were inspired by.

This looks fun. Any updates on which Linux distributions you're supporting?

This looks fun. Any updates on which Linux distributions you're supporting?

This is being built using the Unity game engine, so assumedly any Linux distributions that Unity supports natively will work correctly here. According to their blog, this means it "will run on most ‘modern’ 64-bit Linux distributions, but official support is only provided for 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04 or newer". Our programmer (one of the other 2 guys on this project) has tested it on Ubuntu and it's worked flawlessly, but we just don't have access to every distribution available to test.

To some extent, we'll be hoping to get a better idea of what is working now and what may need to change when we release our demo (coming just in a couple weeks here now). Any Linux distribution that's reasonable and possible to support within the constraints of Unity, we'll do our best to see what we can do.

Thanks! :)

Thanks, mate. At least Linux is on your team's mind.

No problem. When the demo comes out, feel free to give it a shot regardless if you'd like, and see if you can run it!

Hey guys! I've got a lot of updates (which will also reflect in the main post).

Most importantly, we've got a new Beta Demo now available for download on our Steam. Try it out and let us know what you think! It's got a lot of gameplay and polish updates, so should be enjoyable even if you played the original.

If you like the demo, consider wishlisting the game or even joining our new Discord server!
