I put it down to the lack of noticeable environmental audio, effects and soundtrack.

WOW!! WOWOWWOoohhOoOo! That beginning main menu screen is gorgeous. UI and 3D graphics are excellent. Do we have a fantastic Space-XCOM here? OooOOoo. This game just teleported to the top of my tactical turn-based list!
