They've pinpointed these little catches that are not always obvious to everyone, and the first time you get that clear explanation.

They also show when gear cannot stack ability bonuses. Those little things make life much easier, Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous have the clearest interfaces I've ever seen in a CRPG.
That sounds like really good quality of life additions. They really seem to listen to feedback even from non Pathfinder players, which is really good.

I haven't played any pen and paper d20 RPGs of any kind since I was a teenager and things that might be obvious to current players, might be opaque to people like me. I enjoy complexity if it is explained enough and pop-ups like that are a great way to explain.

I don't understand why I can keep picking the Angel Mythic path all the time. Will that lock me out of other paths ? How does this Mythic thing work ?

I must admit I'd like to find some more info on the mythic paths. My understanding is that you need to see the dialog choices on the different paths, for them to show later when you finally select the mythic path you want (in the UI). Some paths like angel and demon are in the main story dialogs so you can't miss them, some others are not shown unless you search for them.

This may help:

Check also other videos from the same channel:The mythic lich and the mythic trickster are on d20PFSRD, but that's only the end results and I'm not even sure they're identical.

Bits of info I saw:
- some paths are only unlocked in act 2
- You won't be able to chose your mythic path before the end of act 2
- the first two ranks are named "mythic hero"

So it seems you need to find the paths and then use them on dialogue?

Or did I misunderstand?

It's nice that they included such tutorials, although I don't understand why there would be a penalty for shooting an enemy who's in melee combat.

It was already in D&D 3rd edition. Apparently there's a -4 penalty on attack roll because you're trying not to shoot a friendly…

Of course the rule has grown more complex in PF:
Shooting or Throwing into a Melee: If you shoot or throw a ranged weapon at a target engaged in melee with a friendly character, you take a -4 penalty on your attack roll. Two characters are engaged in melee if they are enemies of each other and either threatens the other. (An unconscious or otherwise immobilized character is not considered engaged unless he is actually being attacked.)

If your target (or the part of your target you're aiming at, if it's a big target) is at least 10 feet away from the nearest friendly character, you can avoid the -4 penalty, even if the creature you're aiming at is engaged in melee with a friendly character.

If your target is two size categories larger than the friendly characters it is engaged with, this penalty is reduced to -2. There is no penalty for firing at a creature that is three size categories larger than the friendly characters it is engaged with.

Precise Shot: If you have the Precise Shot feat, you don't take this penalty
PS: this rule is a pain

We'll have to ask our specialist

I understood that if a path is mentioned in a dialog choice, your character knows it and this choice will be available when you must choose. I may be wrong, I've not been that far yet.

There are a few key events that you need to follow for each path. Basic consistent good/evil decisions will lead you down to angel/demon, pretty much regardless.

Others are more subtle.

They also haven't added all the paths yet (as far as I know). As Redglyph mentioned, initially, you are 'just' a mythic hero, for 2 levels of mythic I think (which are separate from normal levels - and driven by story events), then your choices get baked in and you move down the path that you have roleplayed through your decisions. I have played Angel twice and am now following Azata. The big constraint is mostly actions and the impact they have on your alignment. If you stray from the alignment that maps to a path, then you will eventually be blocked from that path. Since most of us play goody two shoes, we end up as angels ;-)
Quite early in the game you have a chance to start as an Aeon too - you will know when (the game prompts you) and then you need to make choices consistent with the ethos of that path (alignment/sentiment).
I have also seen the Lich path, which you find mostly by chance/exploration but I decided not to go that route ;-)
Basically just try do as many quests and side-quests as possible and explore everything, and the choices will emerge

EDIT: also, when you start levelling your mythic character (feats), I think you should choose feats that agree with the path you want (initially you seem to have access to many feats, some of which are clearly aimed at certain paths … ) I think the game also mentions this if you mouse-over the mythic level text when you level

Not sure how it will be in the final, Purple might know.

I do know when I was playing that I opened up the Angle path first and had options in dialogue for it. But it hadn't locked me into that path by any means.

Instead various paths started to open up to me as I was playing. Then I reached a point where I had to actually pick the the one I wanted to pursue. At that point I had Demon, Angel, Aeon, Azuta, and Trickster all open to me that I could chose from and had used for various dialogues. I went Azuta both times I played through.

So don't worry about being locked in early on. From what I remember when I levelled up at some point I had to pick which mythic path to level up in - this was a specific level up for that path, not the generic mythic level up. I had to actually select "Azuta" (or however you spell it).

But you should plan out what perks and the like you are taking before hand if you want things to line up … based on what I recall.

I do know it was a little confusion when I leveled up in the mystic path but then leveled up in the actual path selection itself.

I am sure Purple could explain better.

As Redglyph and booboo said, you start off as a mythic hero first then get to choose your path in chapter 2.

From my understanding, angel and demon paths are considered 'default', so easiest to unlock (mainly determined by your alignment).

Azatas, trickster, lich and aeon - you will have to either obtain certain item and/or choose specific dialogue options to unlock. Some were rather easy to miss in alpha but Owlcats have added more visual and sound effect to make mythic related dialogues/quests more obvious now (i.e. the game will play relevant mythic theme music - totally in love with angel mythic theme).

Legend, swarm and gold dragon will only be available much further into the game (i.e. you will get to switch mythic later in the game if you meet the requirements to unlock those 3). I'm hoping I can do demon --> gold dragon mythic (redemption story for my dhampir bloodrager so excited).

I didn't realise you could switch a path again, that's cool! I'm still playing about with the alpha, so I didn't see the new scaffolding/guidance, but I think I'll just see how azata plays out (chose a kinetic knight tiefling this time) then stop. I have already played 127 hrs so I think I should just cool it and wait for the final game :-)

I absolutely loved azatas. Super fun mythic - enjoy!

Edit: btw booboo, there won't any new updates for alpha anymore. All of changes I mentioned is in beta now.
