Here is a step by step updated walkthrough on how to install. (most of the old links are broken and missing, so i created new ones.)

1- procure copy of game via gamersgate or yuplay.ru or wherever. install game.

2- Apply 1.1 update, found here http://www.patches-scrolls.de/precursors.php#tp16

3- download TRIVIUM precursors found here https://www.dropbox.com/s/crwtl2y3dv27d71/TRiViUM precursors.rar?m go into TRIVIUM folder and open 1.01 and move everything over and override when asked.

4- Apply newest patch found here http://www.patches-scrolls.de/precursors.php#tp16

5- add Russian sound files, found here https://www.dropbox.com/s/3iksq9y9c8czynq/precursors russian sound files.rar?m place into packages folder override when asked. also found here http://www.moddb.com/games/the-precursors/addons/russian-voices-part-1 http://www.moddb.com/games/the-precursors/addons/russian-voices-part-2

6- Open Game and when asked for serial, open TRIVIUM keygen and follow directions
(this removes the evil Starforce protection)

7- (optional) apply film grain fix found here http://www.moddb.com/games/the-precursors/addons/no-film-grain-fix

and that should give you the game in full audio and in english, enjoy.

Is the grain fix worth it to be included in the patch?

i think so, it makes the game much prettier, and as far as I know, there are no downsides.
maybe just make it optional like the HUD and ATI fixes. that way people can have the choice.

I don't know if I should include this in the patch, I don't get film grain effects at all on my NVIDIA card. So is this only connected to ATI cards and should be added to the ATI fix?

Ive only run Nvidia cards and i had to use the fix every time i install.
The vanilla version needs to be modified. I remember having to use the GRPunpacker and grabbing the postprocess folder. insdie thefolde, each world has its own settings (GREEN PLANET, YELLOW PLANET...)
If I remember right, theres a line at the bottom starting with NOISE, i changed the defualt value to 0.0, saved, and then the film grain was gone.

@niadly: I registered just to say thank you for the up-to-date, concise how-to with working links. I got Precursors as the free full game supplement of a magazine - with zero patches applied, of course - and I was one step away from going completely bonkers trying to follow any/all the other, much older how-tos full of links to each other and to broken downloads. I now finally have a strobing-free Sun over my head, a weapon that does not include an invisible silencer, and enemies I can actually hear approaching. It's like a whole different game. Thanks! :)

Hi ! "How to install Precursors english version" :

I found this very usefull information here ) :
(follow the link for more)

I was able to locate the memory leak and frame rate drop. The symptoms are that the Precursors.exe will not shut down after quitting game and at some point the game will slowdown until being unplayable. This happens when using the vital.dll and VEloader.dll from the russian 1.1 patch or the same files frim the Trivium's fixed package. You must use the original English ones.

Barring some new updates, the ideal install starting with the English release is the following:

What you should have is all the above, that is:

- English release 1.0

- Russian patch 1.1; do NOT install this in the game directory, but in a separate one (it will be a cyrillic folder); 2 files to use: game.pdb, game_space.pdb; do NOT use any other files from this patch !

- Trivium Package; 2 files to use: game.dll, game_space.dll; do NOT use Precursors.exe or other files because you will not be able to use the Flyer and you run into issues.

- Russian Sound Files; a must have, otherwise cropped sound.

The install is:

- Install English 1.0 from the download of your provider (Gamersgate etc.)

- Apply Wesp5 patch in the game directory, chose both options Hud Improvements and Flicker Noise Fix

- Install russian sound files in the game directory "packages"

- start the game and make some video option changes, save + quit (very important)

- copy over game.dll and game_space.dll from Trivium's fixed 1.1 patch (not the russian ones!)

- copy over game.pdb and game_space.pdb from the russian 1.1 patch.

Note : I suggest applying the Wesp5 unofficial patch to the end.

The GamersGate download is now at version 1.1 with Starforce activation. Somebody somewhere must be very motivated to copy protect their buggy, broken game.

I had the gamersgate and now the steam version. But have yet to install either version. I am far too lazy to bother with installing patches. Does steam require me to manually update the game?
