The ever-popular "Currently Listening" thread

Renaissance or Ministry of Sound or such?
Cream made a lot of trance compilations.

Speaking of trance and the Fluoro label, here is a Hooj Choons song that ranks up there. Appeared on one of the early (and best, I think) Fluoro compilations.
Harder with eventual piano and vocal parts.
Red Sun - This Love (Longredsun Mix)
and the remix which is pretty good too, but I think I prefer the less freaky original
Red Sun - This Love (Our House Remix)

YIKES! Another Red Jerry track I fell into that I had totally forgotten about. It caused me to flashback. ;) It's got a couple piano breaks of death followed by synth lines and then a bit of cheesy funky carnival organ. But definitely hard trance. Unique.
Westbam vs Red Jerry - Wizards Of The Sonic (Original Red Jerry 95 Mix)

Well, over the last page of posts I've learned quite definitively that the trance genre is a good bit tighter than what I thought. Which leaves me wondering just what I've really been listening to from time to time. My stuff is way too melodic to fit into what's been shared so far, but it's still got a lot of common traits as well. Perhaps y'all can properly categorize this for me so I can be more precise in the future:
"Beautiful Things" by Andain
or even something like this that's got strong gazer overtones and less 120bpm:
"Phere" by The FLIR

Go ahead and check out the channels at Digitally Imported for some sub-genre names. ;)

I'm happy about the recent trance coverage in this thread, as it's right up my alley and is fun music to work to! Speaking of which, Goa is closely related, fantastic programming music and I must needs mention two of the best albums ever:

  1. Astral Projection - Trust in Trance
  2. Astral Projection - Dancing Galaxy

Some single track examples:
- Mahadeva (1997)
- Kabalah
- Dancing Galaxy (with samples from the Dune movie)

Here's another Trouser remix, this one's a very atmospheric piano trance classic.
Loveclub - The Journey (Trouser Enthusiasts Remix)

Wow! This is very good. Thanks!

Here's an odd one I still like, trancey with a heavenly vocal.
Libra Presents Taylor ‎– Anomaly - Calling Your Name (Granny's Epicure Remix)
Nice! Feels something like a pre-Goa Trance or perhaps pre-Psy-Trance

And now, just to balance things out, but still staying in the boundaries of electro music.
Remembered them today and it is a Synthpop/Darkwave style, from Germany, namely Wolfsheim.

Really chilled and good for listening with good lyrics. Well, I like it and strongly recommend it.
If you don't know them, check it out. Or just let it play for good old times. :)
Wolfsheim-Spectators (Full album 1999)
Wolfsheim-Once in a Lifetime
Wolfsheim-Kein Zurück
Wolfsheim-The Sparrows and the Nightingales
This one with the singer from Wolfsheim, Schiller mit Heppner-Dream Of You

Enjoy! :)

We actually got out, and heard a concert today of beautiful piano music.

Doug Hammer and Roth Herrlinger

http://www.rothherrlinger.com

EDIT: And here are some of the songs they wrote and played (those that I can remember me most liking).

Super calming peaceful mostly. Opposite to trance. :)

Doug Hammer - The Castle
Doug Hammer - Sunrise
Doug Hammer - Flying High
Doug Hammer - Haiku

Roth Herrlinger - Unexpected Rain
Roth Herrlinger - Sunflower
Roth Herrlinger - The Gift of Flight
Roth Herrlinger - Daybreak

This is more like dream pop, not very trancey, though there are a few trance elements (echoey vocals, and synth crescendos perhaps). Very nice nonetheless. :)

Nice too. But not trance. It's dream pop. Trance must have a house (rather than rock) rhythm, neither of which these have. Plus mainly cycling keyboard melodies / riffs vs guitar.
Go ahead and check out the channels at Digitally Imported for some sub-genre names. ;)

Great set of genres there. :)
Goa Trance
- Mahadeva (1997)
- Kabalah
- Dancing Galaxy (with samples from the Dune movie)
Nice! Fast squelchy phasing beats I guess define Goa Trance for me.
In particular, Kabalah brings back memories for me. Good ones. :)
Nice 80's sounds there. :)
This one with the singer from Wolfsheim, Schiller mit Heppner-Dream Of You
Cool trance feeling there.
Another Schiller song that's great
Schiller - Liebe

One more from the Trousers. This may be one of their most beautiful remixes.
Karen Ramirez - Looking for Love (Trouser Enthusiast's Joy of Sex Mix)

EDIT:

Here's another fun goodie from 1995 Hooj Toons. Instrumental and swirly.
Artemesia - Bits + Pieces (Tin Tin Out Mix)

EDIT:

A classic piano vocal house tune from 1994 or so, I just came across that I had forgotten about.
Happy Clappers - I Believe (12" Master)

Another classic from about 1991. Seminal house instrumental piece. A bit jazzy. Very deep. Has a sci-fi sort of organ thing going on. This recording's clear but thin on the bass. I'd raise it for this song.
Jaydee - Plastic Dreams (Original Long Version)

And wonderful gospel house / garage care of Frankie Knuckles circa 1991
Sounds of Blackness - The Pressure Pt. 1 (Classic 12" Mix with Vocal Intro)

Almost every link you posted is unavailable for me. But, I did find them on other chanels. :)

Great music! It sure must have been great to listen to them live.

Sorry about the links not working for you. Must be a regional restriction?
They played on a grand piano in a relatively small room only a few feet away from us. The piano nuances and acoustics were quite wonderful. An improvisational duet was one of the highlights. :)
Discovered a new [indie?] band: Russian Circles. Similar in style to Godspeed you Black Emperor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFzAd4PNCaY

Good stuff if you don't want vocal muddling your instrumentation.

Very nice hypnotic stuff. It reminds me at times of early Genesis and The War on Drugs, with more noise and some shoegazing and psychedelia.

Well at least the first 2 tracks. The big cliche dramatic metal power chords in the third track, not so much… The rest are great. :)
I enjoy this endlessly for over 5 months. Sleep Dealer-Imminence

Ooh nice. Very relaxing. Reminds me of dirge / dark wave with a bit of shoegazing thrown in.

EDIT:

Another wonderful remix by the Trouser Enthusiasts for Danni
Dannii Minogue - Disremembrance (Trouser Enthusiasts Brittlestar Requiem Mix)

Hey! This one is nice! Good RMX.

Jaydee - Plastic Dreams (Original Long Version)

This one is absolutely great! Like it a lot...and heard it a long time ago. Very good to hear it again today. :)
All that I can do now is just to share this unforgettable tune Jens-Loops & Tings
And, Absolom-Secret
R.O.O.S-Instant Moments
and a little bit of this, Antiloop-In My Mind
and another legendary tune ZYON-No Fate (Struggle Continous Mix)

And just this little warm tune The Sunclub-Fiesta which is good to listen on this cold winters day. And the video is hilarious. :)

Excellent speed trance. :) I remember the title but not the music. Odd, ehh?
Nice! Another title I remember by name. :) Sounds a bit like Right in the Night At least the bass and choral part.
Another artist I remember by name. This one is a dark hypnotizer, in the spirit of Jaydee. Nice!
and a little bit of this, Antiloop-In My Mind
Another name from the past that clicks. Cool harder trance.
Ah, great piano dream trance. Thanks!

That's a classic, in my mind. Had forgotten about it. Thanks! There are a few good versions. I think the Spacefrog Remix is my favorite for the call and response.
The Sunclub - Fiesta (Extended)
The Sunclub - Fiesta (Spacefrog Remix)
The Sunclub - Fiesta (Forrest Dream Mix)

EDIT:

And finally, Sunclub took me to this classic I had forgotten about. Atmospheric trance of the best kind that picks up into a stormer. Gives me shivers.

Ayla - Ayla (Taucher Remix)

Trance? Okay, so here's my absolute favorite, more current trancey EDM title:
Schattentanz by Klangstabil
It takes a while to get to full intensity (3:41), but it's 7:19 long so there.
I like Klangstabil, anyway, but usually they are way more experimental/triphoppy (while they call their music 'Klangpop'). This one is just ... :).

I'm sticking with the original mix of Fiesta. :)
Oh, and Spacefrog... Follow Me is epic.

Good RMX for Ayla... Taucher has some good tunes.

Klangstabil is very good. Thanks Jaz!

For some reason this song reminded me of this one, Ravelab feat. Kai Hawaii - Push

We're going to have to break this up...

How about some solid early 90's indie pop?

Yep, that song was the closest they got to a hit. Terribly underappreciated, though. So then, shall we go on a binge?
"In Everything You Do" by Mighty Lemon Drops

odd pointless trivia- for some reason, this song is forever linked to a game. I'm not sure why it's this one versus any other, but this song brings back vivid memories of playing a marathon session as the Russians on Civ in my first apartment on a Saturday morning before the Mrs woke up.
