Never played a Yakuza game, but it looks like a mash-up between Mafia and Final Fantasy, with a sprinkle of Shenmue.

Bingo as some JRPGs on Steam allow you to pick your game audio and video size. The latest Final Fantasy games are one example of a game that can triple it's install size
Mostly due to optional file choices to install.
There might be some references to past characters but its a new chapter with a different lead. Basically a reboot of the series for new gamer's. Even the combat is different.
It's some sort of action turn-based hybrid this time. Also here you go.

At no point you'll have to do need4speed formula race in order to progress the main mafia story.
There is no mashup of anything. Previous Yakuza games were about a pretty normal guy in a kinky/pervy world. No other such game.

The title is reference to Miike's movie, but has no link with it as the movie is Yakuza (Kiwami) 1 live version.
Except references that aren't important, everything in Yakuza 7 is new.

Shenmue has been the main comparison. Both Sega franchises, and there are quite a few similarities.
For me, there was one very important difference: I hate Shenmue, and I love the Yakuza games.

That scam is virtually unplayable with K+M. I was a backer because KS promised PC version, not an insulting port.
Yakuza games play nice with K+M except dance and karaoke in yakuza0.

Being compared to Shenmue made me lose any kind of interest that had been sparked by the recent news about this game. It wasn't looking too good already when someone said it's a RPG because you can level and use drugs, but I was trying to overlook that.
It's good though, too many games to play as it is, didn't really need to add a whole new franchise to my list of candidates.

Bah Shenmue the original idea was a GTA-lite game about the Yakuza. Still remember playing the first two games on the PS2. Sega succeeded in making a cult franchise.
To bad some of the newer games had to be censored due to Sony.

It's nothing like Mafia other than the fact that they're gangsters. Nothing like FF either or at least the one I played. Definitely a little Shenmue there.

Yakuza games on PC have absolutely nothing in common with Shenmue.
In fact I dare to say Yakuza0, kiwami 1 and kiwami 2 are everything Shenmue3 is not.
I believe I wrote before Yakuza games on PC are mustplays and Shenmue3 is avoidware.
Whoever thinks Yakuza games are Shenmue clones is either blind or is trolling.
Or is talking about Nintendo Gameboys versions of games. Who cares about that junk.
