Don't get much time to game what I'd call properly anymore. Sessions are too short and/or I'm too tired. Unless I manage to engage properly, getting on the PC at 9:30 - 10pm invariably ends in me dozing off. That only leaves early AM on weekends and Saturdays are usually busy.

All this, I think, is why I don't get through many games anymore. Disjointed play sessions means by the time I get a few spare hours I feel like playing something different to what I did a few days ago and I subsequently lose continuity and forget stuff. In the last few years christmas holidays have been the only time I've really managed to get into anything. This makes me sad and plays on my backlog guilt.

So these days I'm playing a lot more games that aren't long or that don't really have a story or need me to remember stuff. Things that can be played in missions or a race etc that might take 10 to 30 minutes.

That felt really familiar

Steam says that during the last 14 day period, I've played for just over 40h, but I often leave games on while I cook, so you can remove ~1h/day from that. In reality, it varies a lot, but usually it's between 10-20h/week, and very rarely do I play for less than 5h .

For the past 4-5 years I've been keeping a record of how long games have taken me to complete and this tells me I spend an average of just over 6 hours per week playing games.

In that time I've finished 25 RPGs in about 780 hours. At my current rate of playing I estimate I should clear my RPG backlog in about 16 years! (assuming no new releases of course).

I picked 21-30 but if a game really grabs me (usually Bethesda games do this) I go 30+ for a while as almost all my non-work-or-sleep hours go into gaming

Funny that the biggest categories are 2- and 30+...

entirely too much or not nearly enough, depending on my frame of mind at the moment :)

I had to vote 21-30 as that is minimum I can get when I am busy with work, if not always 30+ (never stop playing)

Also playing 21-30h on average. While I could also play 30+, I actually spend quite some time on watching News, Youtube-Videos and TV Shows.

It is a bit odd that for a gaming forum, over 60% of people play less than 20 hours a week.
On average that is less than 3 hours a day (as a maximum)

That doesn't sound like a lot.

Imho 20h are still quite a lot. But the majority of these 60% is actually at much less than that.

But I guess people just have additional hobbies as well. And if just 50% of the free time (of someone with a 35-40h work week) goes to watching of TV shows and news, you will already go below 20h.

Yeah I know.
I'm one of them :)

I guess my expectations were that people were playing more.

Some people here seem to be able to finish ten games a month and write reviews for it *cough* Maylander *cough*.

I play way more hours that I should. I've just split up with my long term G/F so have a lot more time to play than I would normally; 20-40 hours a week, maybe. I still don't consider myself hardcore however; I was going to by a HTC Vive, but only passed my driving test a few weeks back, so maybe a car first might be better… real life has way better graphics, it's just a shame about the massive grind.

It's way too variable for a solid answer. Right now, I hardly spend any time gaming because I have been busy with RL stuff. But when I do have time and I get into a game, I can spend a lot of free time playing the hell out of a game. I hope to do that during the summer. I have a ton of backlog games to play, all the top big name rpgs from the past few years I still need to play and/or finish. (examples, Witcher 3, Wasteland 2, Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2) Plus, I have some first person shooter games to play and complete as well. I bought too many games and keep buying new games when I shouldn't, basically.

My answer could range from zero, to 1-2 hours, to 20-30 hours a week, depending on different factors.

My wife is also a gamer, so that gives me a ton of hours where she doesn't care what I'm doing. She is a facebook, free casino slots, hidden item and puzzle gamer. She games on a kindle mostly but quite a bit on a laptop too. She also games over 40 hours a week, but she doesn't have to work.

Basically 40% of us game over 20 hours a week.

My wife doesn't like games at all.
She is on her phone a lot though.

I'll say that during the seventies, eighties and nineties I played a lot more when I got by on three or less hours of sleep per night. Sometimes I went two-three days without sleeping at all, that time just went to gaming, either on computer or pen and paper. I couldn't tell you what tv shows were around in the eighties, but I could tell you most computer games that were available or bore you to tears with GURPS/D&D/Champions/Aftermath tales.

Yeah, all night sessions when you were young and engrossed in a game were great. Having a family pretty much puts a stop to that though.
