Thanks, Pibber. Now I'm watching a few old Blue Oyster Cult concerts, just for the great tunes and memories. I will always remember them as a band that was always awesome in person, well worth checking out live!!

They did the song justice and damn it's close to the original.

Discovered this song as part of the Mr. Robot soundtrack, and it's incredible. Love it so much.

Perfume Genius - Queen

This does make me question the use of commercial music in film. It's a kind of a risky move to put these songs in. For someone who hadn't heard the song before, it worked perfectly to complement the scene in Mr. Robot, but I can imagine someone that knew the song, it could completely take you out of it.

Zeuhl???

"Defining zeuhl music can be tricky. “It’s sort of like what the Supreme Court said about pornography,” ventures Steve Feigenbaum, “I know it when I hear it."" (source will follow)

Another way of looking at it is: "It's prog, but not as we know it".

The first zeuhl band is without doubt the French band Magma. After all they invented the word. In their artificial language "Kobaiian", it means "celestial".

Here's "Hortz Fur Dëhn Štekëhn Ẁešt" from their third album: "Mekanďk Destruktďw Kommandöh"
loading…

The whole album, can be found here (live performance in 2000): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoZIXPvHPoY

But after Magma, several bands have adopted the style. Here's an article from bandcamp: There is No Prog, Only Zeuhl: A Guide to One of Rock’s Most Imaginative Subgenres (https://daily.bandcamp.com/lists/zeuhl-list). Yes, I got the first paragraph from there.

a pibbur who regrettably AFAHK has only 15 albums with zeuhl music (13 by Magma)

PS. According to this list: (https://www.last.fm/tag/zeuhl/artists?page=1) more bands in my collection are considered zeuhl artists, so maybe I have more zeuhl albums. OTOH, the site considers Kim Kardashian and Hulk Hogan zeuhl, so I am a bit in doubt. DS.

PS2. I have no music by said Kardashian or Hogan. DS.

Another absolute banger from the Mr. Robot soundtrack. This one Mac Quayle wrote specifically for the series. Love it.

The boss drug me into Ulta the other day. Expensive waste of my time, but amidst the chipper background noise was this little ear worm. Figured out what it was later that day.

In the same category of earworm song, this one is also very catchy from Echosmith.

Good calls, Danutz.

An album track from a cd that was pretty much ignored, so unknown squared. Hard to believe this stuff is 35 years old. I still remember borrowing a friend's cassette, eventually buying my own cassette, and eventually stumbling on a copy of the cd several years later.

I do like listening to night jazz radio stations.

I love the city lights at night, and one of my treats is to get a hotel room with a great view, and have a really nice dinner. Covid has meant there's been none of that recently.

That sounds great ! Are there albums with that which you can recommend me ?

Personally, I've been digging out the kinda odd "Swaddling Songs" out again … The only album by the small folk rock/folk prog group called Mellow Candle from the 70s … Clodagh Simonds of can be heard singing on Mike Oldfield's Ommadawn album.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swaddling_Songs

In the song "Vile Escesses" there is the line "did you see shadows of unicorns ?"
It doesn't seem to be fantasy-themed, though (the album is originally from 1971).

I haven't heard an album with such strong and fast female singing before.

I browse this thread but never post in it. Thanks for all the links to artists I've never heard of.

Seen a sticker the other day "Music was better when we let ugly people create it"
Certain amount of humor to it when it comes to mainstream mass produced stuff, but glad there are still a lot of artists that put their content out there.

I find that the best jazz albums tend not to stick to one chilled out mood, but mix it up a bit. That's why I like late-night jazz radio stations that pick a good selection of laid-back tracks.

Here's couple of tracks that I really like, that might give you a pointer. I'd also suggest searching for local radio stations playing lounge or late night jazz.

Duke Ellington & John Coltrane - In a sentimental mood

Esbjorn Svensson Trio, From Gagarin's point of view

Grant Green - Maybe tomorrow

EDIT: Also, that made me listen to a bit more EST. Here's one that's not so laid back, but I think is interesting.

I'm surprised the current topic hasn't summoned Mike like a genie. Unfortunate, really, as Mike would have a ton of jazz stuff to offer up.

For me, some summer cruising music to counteract the current shitty weather (check local listings). Most fans of the band thought this album was a pop sellout, but I think they just honed their craft on making the perfect 3 minute pop song while staying true to their roots. Sing it, Sarah!
