Beltion - On an English Release

Lanael writes that he recently sent off a missive to Rostok Games asking about international releases of Beltion: Beyond Ritual and received the following reply:
Dear fan of our game!

We are glad to see our project to be anticipated and waited for not only locally but abroad too. Unfortunately, the question of releasing the game outside Russia, Ukraine and Baltia is still open. There's still no western publisher for the game,
and the amount of resources which can be spent on english-speaking audience is still minimal.

Considering the local game version, we expect it to be published in Ukrain and Russia at the 1st quarter 2008.

As soon as there will be any definite decision about our English version, we'll provide the site and corresponding newsreel in English. Rest assured, we'll try to do what we can to keep our foreign fans informed.

Where's Ino Co and Atari when you need them? This looks like the kind of game they've been picking up.

Hopefully they (Rostok) will find someone if the game does well in the Russian arena.

Now all we need is an English version of that letter.

Looked like English to me--what do you mean? A few whacked up pronouns don't qualify it as a foreign language. :)

I think like me, Lucky doesn't care for games with a poor English translation. It's a pet peeve of mine and I cringe when obvious non-native speakers have been used to translate!!

I'll deal with it to get the games, but it is an obvious annoyance - when it is a small shop (i.e. Restricted Area) I can handle it better than with bigger releases.

Know what you mean--sometimes the translation/voice-acting can keep you from playing the game--I didn't mean to jump all over Lucky. I share the hope this one gets a decent scripting. ( I only found two mistakes in the letter though, which wouldn't be too bad a percentage in a translation.) :)

Edit: Well, 'newsreel' is kind of iffy...;)

Not much connection between a dev that answers a fan question (including pointing out they don't have much resources for English) and the translation an English publisher might add in later. You guys are being too harsh.

Games like metalheart are truly horrible, but games like Prince of Qin aren't that bad. Prince's translation is truly horrible but the game itself was fun and I forgave the translation because it was just fun to play. The voice acting and translation was funny if you looked at it a different way. I didn't try to immerse myself in the RPG like I normaly do in games like KOTOR or Baldur's and just played the game to have fun.

just kidding of course.

It was a rude comment for me to make but I couldn't resist.

It makes me think there may be a market computer game translating services. Companies could outsource to specialists and the specialist could keep costs low by having multiple contracts for different games and companies.
