It's kid friendly and fairly easy to understand. I played it myself for a few months with my significant other, and she doesn't really engage in card based activities at all. I'm someone who enjoyed MTG for well over 20 years, and I had no trouble understanding it.

I'd say that it can evolve into medium-ish difficulty at times, but it rarely treads into that territory.
