Yeah but the $250 price-tag makes me want to buy the $99 version.:sweatdrop:

If possible try to compare the two models. My wife has the paperwhite which is the mid-priced version, but she agrees that mine is much better. My brother bought the cheepie and you can't use it out doors in sunlight as you get glare and can't read the screen. As always in life, you get what you pay for!!

I believe I got the upper end paperwhite version, and also made sure I purchased a power cord along with it. It was like forty dollars off, so I finally gave in and bought one, if I fall in lust with it, I can always get a better version next time around.

As long as it's a paperwhite you'll be happy. The two things I like most about my Kindle apart from the convenience, is that not only are books much cheaper, but many LONG out of print books are available for the Kindle, some for less than a dollar!! Enjoy.

The ASUS ROG Claymore keyboard:

picture.php

It's a not too large mechanical gaming keyboard. I've tried a couple of those before, but so far, I haven't liked any of them. Not sure why, but they felt uncomfortable, making me feel clumsy and more prone to typos.

This one is nice and "handy".

Another thing, which actually was the reason I decided to try it was this:

Yepp. Numeric keypad is detachable, and can be connected to the left side of the thingy, giving me a nice set of fully programmable key readily available for my left hand.

pibbur who observes he has found yet another reason not to use a controller.

So, with Asus Aura integration, it could glow when there are orcs about?

Maximum points for detachable numberpad - I find it more comfortable to have that in a very specific position when I'm entering figures.

Perhaps. Can't say as I have it fixed in red (but definitely ominous) glow.

I may have mislead you. It's detachable in the sense that I can move it from the right to the left side of the KB (and back again). It has to be physically connected to it, I can't put it elseweyr. (If I want to use it, that is).

I don't know if this will be of interest to anyone, but you never know.

There are quite a lot of people with profound disabilities that can benefit from eye-control systems. Many of these are sold for some serious coin, going for up to $15K in the US. Much of that is the price of the specialist software. But, Microsoft, to their great credit, have now implemented an eye-control system in Windows 10. That means that you only need the hardware eye-tracker, which can be purchased at a fraction of the cost, packaged for gaming purposes.

I picked up a Tobii Eye Tracker 4C for £149, and, using the new Win 10 interface, I'm working with a friend of mine to see how well it meets her needs. So far, it seems to be more than adequate, allowing her to fully control Windows and its applications, granting text-to-speech, social media, browsing, limited gaming, and so on.

I've seen it mentioned in a few games' options but forgot which exactly except the recent one.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider supports tobii.

I’ve recently bought some 2 and 5 mm EVA foam, Plasti Dip, acrylic paint, a few larger hollow punches, webbing with D-rings and 6mm vinyl tubing.
If it works out as planned, it will be transformed into another gadget for my steampunk costume.
Except the hollow punches they are not transformed into anything. I’ve bought those because the medium sized circles I try to cut out of the foam don’t turn out to be that circular…

Got myself a Nitrokey - a proper encrypted USB and 2-factor authentication device, with audited, verifiable, open-source firmware. Made in Berlin with no nonsense.

I'd recommend it to those concerned about security.

New glasses for when I'm sitting at the computer. I'd noticed that I tended to flex my neck backwards more and more in order to see what's on my monitors sharply. Which caused headaches.

So a tête-à-tête with my optician (or rather her machinery) was in order. Got my new glasses today, and they work flawlessly. A pleasant side effect is that these glasses distort what I see a bit differently than my old ones. So my nice 27" monitors appear larger. So now I don't have to buy 29" monitors after all. Ahh, saved me a lot of money.

pibbur who since everything 75 cm away is clear as ink now, probably has no excuse for typos

PS. As everyone who wear glasses know, they do distort what you see, the degree depends on the strength and the quality of the glasses. The brain is very good at adjusting, however so you soon get used to it. But if it's been a while since you got new ones, the difference can be quite noticable for a couple of days. Many years ago, when I was around 16 I was in a boat, fishing. A couple of mosquitos got annoyingly close, so I struck at them which made them go away. Unfortunately so did my glasses. My new glasses were significantly stronger than my lost ones, so for a while I had slight, but noticable trouble walking, because the ground was never where my eyes told me.

A more pleasant surprise was many years later, when I one day sat at the cafeteria at work and noticed that they had got bigger coffee cups. How nice, more coffee for the same price. Then I noticed that every coffee bar had got bigger cups. Yes, I had just got new glasses. DS.

PPS. Those of you who has (have?) been married to/living with a female for some years, have no doubt observed that they tend to have opinions on what you wear, and they also tend to make that opinion very explicit. My wife for instance always bothers me whenever I go out to buy trousers, wanting me to get me something more fitting. I've told her repeatedly that I don't know what that means. As long as they have 3 holes, I manage to put them on. I'm not stupid - I wouldn't buy them otherwise.

She also used to say that I ought to get myself new glasses. Eventually, after 10 years I succumbed and did as she told me to. BTW, those were the same glasses that enlarged the coffee cups. In addition they made everything sharper, so I noticed that she had got several wrinkles that I somehow had managed to overlook. Being the honest person that I am, I of course informed her about that. She has never troubled me with glasses-related comments since then. And, she has also adviced her (female) friends and colleagues never to mention glasses to their significant ones. I feel like I have finally done something good for humanity.
DS.

purchased 4 Chromobotia macracanthus about 2 weeks ago and 5 Botia striata 4 weeks ago. The Chromobotia macracanthus are kind of small (2ish inch) but if i keep them for 15 years they might reach 12 to 14 inches. Right now they have to contend with the 8 pterophyllum stealing their food but they are getting the hang of it.

I was able to get an translated "campaign world book" about Eberron. I was surprised it had evaded being bought for so long. A very fine thing from the German FeenCon which has its 30th anniversary this weekend ! :)
I had lots of fine talks and chatter there, too. :)
I also bought a tiny book from a female author I had had contact with - it was nice to see her there. :)
Coming through the main railway station of Cologne, I just asked there whether my book had arrived. And they had it ! : A bookcase containing volume 1-4 of "Pheobe and her Unicorn" by Dana Simpsin. I really like this series ! :)
Volume 1 even got a foreword by Peter S. Beagle …
Ine of the most unusual things of this day was, however, rtalking and chattingg witzh a stranger about clouds and the weather. That was soo much unusual to find someone who had been looking at clouds and weather, too ! (There was a rain-small thunderstorm there during the chat.)

I found a pair of wonderful mikrogeophagus ramirezi and snatched them up. Have two more that should arrive via postal in a couple of days. The pair i did get don't seem to like each other much - lots of bickering. Oh well maybe they will get along with the other two when they arrive.
