ELEX - Released: More Reviews

Perhaps he/she is a Google AI project and we're all just providing free training data? I won't be monetized, dammit!
Just read a good article on the economist about alpha go zero...

Sounds plausible...

Who is this Chien that writes in a way that we can understand and which alien species took the real Chien?

errr yes… although I still think that whiffing a monster may result in something opposite to the expected…

I was amused when he was going on about whiffing and "whiff punishing", but apparently that's a thing.

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=whiff

This is why I am convinced he is an AI.

If an normal person know these weird/specialists terms (whiffing , ugo igo, etc), then chances are they will write in human understandable English! He can't be foreigner since chances of foreigner knowing these terms are slim. So the logical conclusion is that he is AI who has database of gaming terms but doesn't know enough to write human understand English!

He's somebody who doesn't really play computer games but watches them streamed. Quite a few streamers and their audiences use terms like whiffing and ugo igo to appear professional and hip. So you watch the streamers you get to know the lingo...

Zahratustra pretty much nailed it I believe. As far as I know Chien is French or at least French speaking, but since he watches streams he uses terms that are pretty specific for hardcore audiences of different types of games.

I reckon we use a lot of terms pretty specific to RPG's don't we?

I have also fond his posts to be more understandable lately, to the point I'm actually agreeing with many of them. For some reason I find that a bit scary, and I'm still not ruling out the AI theory.

I guess his signature (Backlog:0) is a giveaway!

Nevertheless I found his/her posts sometimes insightful (you know, stuff like the clock handle rotation direction depends on your point of view if you are viewer or the clock).

What? You all have never whiffed? When I was a kid, we whiffed all the time. We kind of stopped using the term when we got older. I'm unsure how I feel about its apparent comeback. :p

The lack of interest in anything related to gameplay shows once again.

Yet the context was given: VS fighting games. Anyone interested in gameplay (gamers) who tries their hands at vs fighting will be exposed and come to understanding the strategies underlying VS fighting.

Players do not get to be specialists in a genre to know the terms, all it takes is to be a gamer.

Another brilliant example of self persuading: it takes a lot of effort to believe that thing.

This site is a data bank, which is organized chronologically.
Watching streamers came following a demand made on this site as personal experience was not deemed enough, it had to be completed by reports of other player's experience. This is how watching streams was started.
It can be dated back.

Since it happened years after the registration, it begs the question of what prior of watching streams, hundreds of posts were written before the streaming thing was undertaken.

Assuming that terms were learned through streaming is another shortcut. VS fighting is an old genre that was present during the arcade era. The VS fighting community has spirit: in those days, a player was challenged by putting a coin on the arcade box and the loser paid. You won, you continued to play. You lost, you either paid more or quit. Arcades were good places to learn how to play a game.

Watched streamers. The combat system definitively backfired. Players are not scared: they look at fights as challenges. Since you can cheese your way in fights, players try to do it most of the times. It gives a lot of save/reloads, people have their fun though.
A new monster, players are sure they can get it whatever their level. Just a matter of trying hard enough.
A long sequence of hiccups as the flow is split. Streamers have fun.

Why triplepost Chien?

1. This game is not ment for casual audience. It's not Farmville cowclicker. I bet scores on phones and consoles are less than 5/10 because of this. As it's not twitchy, I'm not even sure why is anyone streaming it.

2. There is absolutely no need for lot save/loads. If someone is doing it, I'm not even sure what game they're playing, doesn't seem Elex. Or perhaps someone needs to steal everything from everyone which is silly - pickpocket cash and equippable items and leave the rest. Ah well, I'll assume it's about different tastes or triggerhappy F5.

3. Trying to kill every monster a player stumbles upon and wasting hours on something that'll be easily killable later is pretty much idiotic. But well, I guess there are plenty of masochists out there who believe this game is linear where you won't get another chance to kill something.

Myrthos calls Chien a he. Question is, can Myrthos, whose avatar looks like a she, prove that Chien is in fact a human? Chien doesn't surrender enough to feel French, but maybe.

Elex seems very rough, but it's still fun. I'm not sure if the reviewers are as forgiving since this game is charging AAA money for an indie+ title.
