Sorry to hear of your drug restrictions, Pibbur. I should probably stop cigarettes, but sometimes, quality of life trumps (eh?) quantity.

Heh. I have never associated cigarettes with quality of life. For one specific reason, and it has nothing to do with the dangers of smoking or a holier-than-you thou-shalt-not-smoke thing.

When I was a kid, both my parents smoked. Also when we were driving in our car. It was terrible, I hated the smell, and I got sick, nausea and headaches - but I didn't complain much. Back then (50's and 60's) children didn't count in the same way as they do today. Years later (long after he had quit smoking) my dad couldn't understand how he could do this to me, but I don't blame him much - that was how it was then.

So, I have absolutely no positive associations with cigarettes, only very negative ones. I have never smoked and just touching cigarettes feels very yeeechy. And for the record, in many games, like FO4 which I'm playing now, you find tobacco you can pick up and sell to a vendor. Ouch! I can't do that.

So, it's a quirk from my childhood, one that I never bothered to do something about. I'm quite happy with that.

It's a bit strange, but my sister, didn't react that way. For a while she smoked at parties - don't know if she still does. I could never do that.

But yes: I think you should give up smoking.

pibbur who thinks smokers often stink (in the sense that they smell bad, they're not bad people). And that chewing gum doesn't help much. And who admits that he's probably overly sensitive.

I like smoothies. They are my daily dairy replacements (can't tolerate that). Kale has more calcium than milk with a better calcium absorption. But you can't drink smoothies hot.

Given the time you spend here, I don't think it is "apparently".

A couple of weeks ago I voluntarily relinquished my physician authorisation.

To some of you this may seem like a stupid move, but here's the thing:
  1. I never liked taking care of patients. And maybe they didn't like me. It's not the best basis for treating them, and I don't think I was a very good doctor.
  2. I like computers.
  3. It's nearly 20 years since last time I worked as a doctor, and since I haven't done anything to keep myself up to date, I'm no longer qualified.
  4. Therefore: I don't want to be obliged to offer professional service in an emergency (normal first aid is ok) - that dreadful "Is there a doctor onboard?" message. And I don't want to pay for an insurance policy. And other things.
  5. Finally, I don't need the license. I don't self-medicate, I don't treat my family, and now I have a solid argument for refusing to prescribe medicines to acquaintances (which admittedly hasn't been that much of a problem).

So all in all, it's a very rational move, I'm happy with it, and there's no reason to feel sorry for me.

pibbur who admits that it feels a bit strange, since he after all spent many years realizing a not particular well founded dream.

PS. For some - to me unknown - reason, the letter I received from health authorities said that I could no longer work as, or claim to be a dentist. Hmm. Didn't see that coming. However, the only dentistry I know is that you should brush your teeth, so I guess it's ok. DS.

In The Netherlands there is an online register where you can check whether soneone is a doctor (using the title is protected); you just getting a letter, can’t you check your present status online in Norway?

How did friends and family react to your move?

There is an online list of general practioners. Not sure about specialists, but if they're part of the publically financed nationional health service, you're safe. Although there has been cases where people with forged authorization documents have been employed. Also there have been cases where doctors who has lost their authorisation in another nordic country found work here.

Family and friends are ok with it. I have discussed it with them before I made the decision.

Pibbur who still will keep vis dr. who references.

PS. The letter from the authorities aknowledged that they had registered my decision. There are after all some formalities involved. DS.

PPS. There is an online register where I can check my status using my doctor id. I just checked and it says that I'm not authorized. DS.

Last 2 weeks were absolutely horrible for me. Which is why I didn't show up often here.
First week - because of the workload.
Second week - because of co-workers and general aggressive emotions being around.

Currently I'm using every second of the weekend for recreation, so to say … But I need to buy food for the next week, too … Which is done now.

On the positive side I have a personal course every friday, which is fantastic ! It's about this : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonviolent_Communication
I learn a lot about and for myself in this course.

Meanwhile I've found a nice and very friendly guild in SWTOR … With an unusual high amount of female gamers in it. Well, as long as they are friendly and good-natured, I don't care much about guild member's gender.
