What I've Been Watching: The Catch-All Film Thread

Wild Tales. A Spanish film that's a series of short stories on the theme of revenge. Sometimes justice is served, and sometimes not. Darkly funny and really enjoyable. I think it's up for an Oscar.

Actually, it is not Spanish but Argentinian.

I have noticed that many Americans tend to (erroneously) call anything that is Spanish-speaking "Spanish" regardless of country of origin. But as a Brit, I expected better from you :).

Ha! Quite right.

It's just my warning to the readers that the film makes no effort whatsoever to speak English, despite our efforts to spread it around so that everyone can communicate properly.

I think I'm gonna skip it… Smells like cash-in spam-o-rama:

All "sequels" were kickstarter success and there are still 5 days to pledge on fourth (it's already funded):

For those interested, the trilogy and some more other movies are available as digital buy or rent here:

EDIT:
After I wrote this, and took a pause... Well... It stirred some interest, can I have some more input on these? I don't care if CGI is bad if the story is great.

I watched a low-budget sci-fi movie called Circle. 50 people wake up in a room arranged in a circle. If they move off their spot, they die. Every 2 minutes, everyone must vote for the next person to die. Not as good as it could have been, but I enjoyed it, and thought it was well worth a watch. Reminded me of Cube, if you ever saw that one.

This movie fells like an RPG - a Mage, Thief, Healer and Warrior on a rescue mission. No high production values, but with lots of charm and fun.

While looking for unique stuff not seen billion times, stumbled upon news about a certain upcoming movie, searched more:
The sequel is called HK: Hentai Kamen The Abnormal Crisis. According to the movie’s tagline, panties across the word are vanishing. So, it’s up to Hentai Kamen, the pervy superhero who wears women’s underwear on his face, to save the day, the panties, whatever.

Not much to report on the movie front. I had the unusual experience of putting two DVD movies into my player and finding them both unwatchable after the first 10 or so minutes. One had me hyped by the presence of Malcolm McDowell, but he didn't/couldn't save the movie at all - The Fairy King of Ar, 5.1 on IMDB it turns out, also titled Beings, from 1998. And Blackbeard from 2006, rated 5.7 on IMDB, which it turns out was produced by some guy who produces, I kid you not, about 20 TV movies per year! Production line crap, says it all really.

Ice Cold in Alex, 1958, was a very watchable movie and it turned out to have a 7.9 on IMDB. There was one scene that 'ruined it' for me near the end though, although not ruining it really, it forced me to click 'skip' as it was the most unpleasant of convoluted 5 minutes of forced drama you could imagine. I could write a wall of text just on those 5 minutes and how you could quite easily cut that scene and nothing would be lost, only gained.

I also saw Deadpool at the cinema and quite enjoyed the entertainment. My only complaint was that you do see all the best jokes in the advert trailer, so I'm quite pissed off about that, someone watching it without the trailer spoilers would have a 2 or 3 point appreciation over someone who has. God I hate movie trailers, there has to be some other way to get a taster of a movie…

Looks like I was delayed too long to see Star Wars. It's only on the smaller screens now. No 3D. May wait to watch it on a plane. ;)

I'm pretty sure my opinion would be a lot less positive if I saw it on a small screen.

It really is a big-screen picture all the way.

Stumbled upon the most rotten, in fact two most rotten ideas of a decade in the same article.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/166564-Death-Note-Adaptation-Will-Be-Rated-R

1. Hollywood is refilming Death Note. As a movie. With live characters.

2. Hollywood is remaking I Saw The Devil.

Whoever notices this post, please, pretty please, grab originals and watch before they ruin it.
Please let me be worry about the Hollywood Ghost in the Shell movie first before I worry about those.
