I've had this game in my pile and am trying to decide whether to play it. The main holdback is my wood-elf looks like a prostitute (we don't have to mention the seraphim) What did everyone else think of the game?

I think it is loads of hack-n-slash fun … but I can only do it in short (OK, 20 hour-ish qualifying as 'short) bursts …

Sacred is one of the few "diablo clones" I finished post Diablo II. I am not a fan of that particular branch of CRPG's, but managed to enjoy it, maybe since there were enough story/quests for me as a story/quest fan.

I found Sacred a bit repetitive in the long run but it's probably the best Diablo alternative ever made (apart from "real" RPGs like Divine Divinity). Maybe Titan Quest gives it a run these days.

My other half loved it and she's replaying it right now.

Sacred is my favourite. Good story, interesting quests, nice graphics. I suggest to try it.

Sacred was pretty good hack and slash. I would say that Titan Quest is slightly better 'Diablo-like' game. If you like these types of game and you already have it, you should give it a try. You may give up if you don't like it…

I recently reinstalled Sacred, but can't get on with it at all.
I don't like the skill system with the runes, and it does not get explained well in the game, making it easy to mess up a character.

At level 10 I was finding weapons with 5 or 6 enchantments on them, and several upgrade-slots, making inventory management a nightmare. If I'm playing hack'n'slash, I want to go and fight, not spend more time sorting out which sword to use then kiling goblins.

The characters are all painfully cliche, and while I have no objection to the occasional chainmail bikini, the sexline-grunts female characters give while idle is just too much. the voice acting on the characters overall is quite bad, and the one-liners that they say far too often are starting to grate on my nerves.

I never get any further then freeing wilbur, then I give up. I'd rather replay Diablo or Dungeon Siege, then Sacred, which feels very uninspired to me.
But I seem to be in the minority here, and if you already own the game, you might as well give it a whirl and make up your own mind

Sorcha,

I have some good info from the forums that helped straighten some of it out….I hope. I'm not sure if this item which gives attack+, and dex + is better or worse than speed + or whatever. There is a blandness it seems to the game (uninspired as you say) but I did want to find something to get me to play it. I've also noticed the lack of inspiring battle music. Remember the battle music from NWN? I can still hear it now and it got you *going*

I'll give Sacred a shot again today and maybe some spark will ignite.

Thanks!

Hey! That's what I'm playing, a wood elf. I always take an archer type character in rpg's.

What does your wood elf specialize in? Do you have any game tips or anything to pass on? I'm still trying to figure out if an item gives + to attack and dex is better than another that add regenerating special moves, etc. I don't know yet what to aim for.

I did fix one niggle in the game regarding the mini-map. I couldn't figure if it was bad programming or what until I looked in the forum and came across a thread mentioning the ati card. The latest drivers fixed it.

Btw, I also have Titan Quest but am waiting on the expansion Oh and I'm still waiting on Kotor 2's restoration project to start *that*.

I was somewhat obsessed with my Wood Elf, "Foaming Squirrel", made custom loading screens of her, and a series of moving gifs of her idle motions. I liked her far more than her Amazon cousin in Diablo II. I play ranged as well, in action RTS especially. I feel I'm more skilled when defeating a zillion foes getting rarely hit, as opposed to sitting there whacking away while taking damage and guzzling potions. The fun is not getting hit while owning the enemy, in my sometimes humble opinion.

I'm at work ATM, so I dont have access to all my Sacred stuff. I do have a blood tweak to unlock the carnage, basically a patch that makes it think it's the European edition with all the blood. Or something like that, it's a bit hazy ='.'=

I'll have to dig thru my stuff and see what I got, it was a while ago so I cant rattle any pointers off the top of my head right now. I do disagree with the prostitute comment, and even regarding the Seraphim I feel that this is inaccurate past the one-hour mark when she's all armored up.

Now youre making me want to fire it up again! I'll definitely post my gifs later on

Ok, let me know what you have and you can disregard my prostitute comments If I give this game a go, I want to go all the way so any stuff you can help with, I'd appreciate it!

Btw, when I first played Diablo 2, I played a Paladin and didn't feel like going into Nightmare because it just seemed dull. I restarted with an amazon using bows and have never looked back. In very rpg I play, I play as a bow user or will switch to dual-wielder (NWN). It adds more excitement to me.

Sacred is fun. To an extend. And you would certainly want the latest version, since it's was majorly buggy when I played some of it, since I never finished the game. The thing that really bugged me (apart from buggy quests and other actual bugs) were the constantly respawning enemies. It may seem fun in the beginning, but after you trot around Ancaria 3 times around it gets annoying.

And on escort missions, watching the little boy you just saved assault a dual saber wielding orc with his bare hands get slaughtered, WTF was that ?

Just curious, but has anyone actually managed to save any of the rescued npcs'?
I am so frustrated that I am now ignoring any quests that include an accompanying character! (I hate those RED crosses in my log book, makes me feel really BAAAAD!!!!)

Yes, I agree they were very tough since the hapless NPCs you escorted decided they could take on orcs with their bare hands. But recently I tried again to play SG and I noticed that these escort missions -- at least the two or three that I attempted -- werent as difficult as before. Perhaps the latest patches changed that ? So if you havent already get the latest patch and see if it's any easier.

lol Cormac……… I was just about to post that I have just downloaded the patch (silly me for thinking that the game I just bought would be up to date! )
and now the npcs' all run away when the fighting starts! Good move by them AND the game designers!
Just wish they had designed a bigger backpack at the same time I am getting so tired of running back to base to offload when I am on a winning streak!
BTW I never seem to get any runes, anyone know if there would there be a reason for that?

The game rune drops are based on how many you have "read", and how many you have in your backpack. If you have read a lot of runes, your drops will be lower. If that is not the case, the area between Silver Creek and Porto Vallum is a hot bed for rune drops.

Actually, the unarmed people you escort always ran away from monsters (unless they were cornered). This was broken by either the Sacred Plus patch, or Underworld/Gold. Nice to hear they finally reverted back to the original behavior with the final patch.

Since the last patch disabled Starforce, does anyone know if the game will still work if you install the final patch and run the Starforce removal utility? I'd really like to disinfect that computer while the DVD still works.
