Period key highlights "File" in toolbar.
January 6th, 2011, 19:47
I have an unusual problem. Whenever i hit the period key, it highlights "file" in the toolbar. Very annoying. Anybody have an idea how to fix this? I am sure it has probably been assigned to do that. But I have no idea why or how to change that. Never run across this one before. I looked under IE options but didn't see anything there. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm, you might try right clicking on file and then choosing customize, add or remove commands, and then reset. I'm hoping that this will set everything back to default, but I haven't tried it.

Your keyboard may be faulty. Try another and see if it solves it.

I had to buy a new keyboard this week, my old one was the victim of one too many angry rants on my part.
Best Buy happened to be having a sale on gaming keyboards. I got a Saitek Cyborg for cheap.

I've bought at least 6-8 keyboards in the past few years - because I simply can't find one that I think is sufficiently good.
The only one I really liked was a very cheap Logitech keyboard with "laptop" flat keys - but they only last ~6 months. After breaking 3 of those, I'm through with them.
I've got a Razer Tarantula now, which is OK - but it's really not good enough.
Maybe there aren't any good ones…….

@Dartagnan: Out of curiosity, what are the most important features you miss in most keyboards?
Says Pibbur who currently use a compact Roccat Arvo keyboard.

I REALLY love a good laptop keyboard, because I find that I can type much more comfortably with a flat keyboard and sturdy keys. The Logitech one I mentioned had that, but it's a pretty crappy quality and they break too easily.
Most modern keyboards have weird positioning of keys and they're either "loose" which I hate, or simply not comfortable to type on. Typically they're too big - and I have relatively small hands.
I probably sound somewhat obsessive about it, but it's not really like that. I can live with a crappy keyboard in most situations - like here at my job. But when I game, I like to be competitive or "on top of things" - and I find that a good keyboard makes a huge difference - and I find that I tend to write endless wall-of-text material for various forums, and as such it'd be nice to not have backspace be my most used key

I'm the same way with mice, but I think I'm finally comfortable with the Razer Naga (MMO mouse)

The feel of a keyboard is important, and to me also how it looks. As long as the functional aspects are ok.
Razer naga - that's the one with all the keys on the thumb side? I have considered that one, because I can access at least some of the keys by moving my thumb vertically (I find reaching horizontally arranged keys cumbersome). Mostly I've used Logitech mice: The Mx510, Mx518 and most recently the G500 laser mouse.
But then I stumbled upon this one: Saitek/Cyborg R.A.T.7. So far I'm very satisfied with it because I can adjust almost every part of it. So now I have a mouse almost perfectly adapted to my right hand (and I reach both horizontal buttons comfortably).
Besides it's got a nice geeky look, which I like. I'd probably wear it at parties. If I ever went to parties. Which I don't (and NOT because I spend my time at my PC).

Looks interesting, thanks Pib…
I read some reviews and it seems people can't agree about those Cyborg products. But they look interesting.
It's the kind of thing you probably need to try for yourself, to make an informed judgment.

I don't think you can call that a mouse anymore…. It looks like a modular spacecraft with a tail. It even seems to have missiles attached to it :O

I REALLY like the idea of a thumb scroll wheel. Good to see some revolutionary innovation finally!

Yes it is! I fell for it immediately.
Hmmm. Wonder what this little red button on the bottom does.

My experiences with the R.A.T.7 mouse so far: I'm mostly happy with it.
But:
1. The profile launcher (which is supposed to launch setups created by the profile editor) crashes whenever I try to run it. It's no big deal for me, I just start the editor and load the (modified) default profile, and by switching between the three modes supported by the mouse I get all the functionality I need. However, this problem with the launcher seems to have been present for a very long time (years), which maybe says something about the quality of Saitek software?
Another issue here is that there are drivers available from two sites: www.saitek.com and www.cyborggaming.com. These are not the same, but both set of drivers will install on your computer. It's not entirely clear which one to use, I eventually chose to go with cyborggaming.
2. I operate 3 computers from my keyboard/mouse/monitor using a KVM switch. Unlike other mice I've had, this one requires 5-10 seconds to activate whenever I switch from one computer to the other.
This may perhaps be a driver thing - I haven't installed the driver on the other 2 machines, and I can't do it on one of them, the one I use for work - it's not allowed. So the mouse switches between a computer with specific drivers and computers without. A bit far fetched perhaps?
3. In the beginning the mouse pointer quite often moved erraticly. I turns out that you have to carefully remove other mouse drivers like Logitech's setpoint. And you have to disable mouse acceleration, which in Windows 7 requires editing the registry (suitable reg files are easy to find on the net). After doing this, the mouse now behaves much more precisely. There are still problems occasionally, but probably not more than I've had with other optical mice, caused by dust on the magic eye.
So all in all, the mouse is not without it's (minor?) issues. To me, the things I like outweighs the problems (They have to, don't they? After all I paid a considerable amount of money for it. AND DON'T YOU DARE TRY TO CONVINCE ME IT'S NOT SO!!!). Because of 1b) I may have a mixed set of driver components, so one day I'll try to uninstall everything and then reinstall the software.

I don't know about everyone else, here, but I'd consider erratic mouse behavior to be a major issue, and the fix to be a lot of trouble. Sounds like a mouse for Windows experts only…
